Bray Foundation Archie - Interesting sculptures

Phenomenal place. I've never been to anywhere quite like it. They have a gallery in the main…read morebuilding that also provides a bit of history of the place. There are really expansive grounds that visitors can walk with broken remnants of sculpture that strangely all blends into the beautiful mountains. There are surprising finds everywhere - large kilns that are being rehabilitated, a small store that sells the clay they make. Lots of artist studios that are in partnership with the nature surrounding it. We picked up some beautiful mugs (about $50 each) and a lovely planter (about the same).

I love to collect beautiful things and have, over the years, without meaning to, ended up…read morecollecting several ceramic pieces and wood carvings. I think my first ceramics were pre-glazed celadon in the S. Korean countryside in 1994! Let's just say I started young. I came out to Helena to actually hit a spa and am not an outdoorsy/hike/climb a mountain/camp type. So in advance of coming out for the day from where I was staying further south, I looked on Tripadvisor for local stuff to do and found this awesome place. I didn't get there as early as I'd planned due to some last minute derailment but I did get to spend 40 minutes or so getting a superficial peek, most of which time I spent checkong out the North Gallery. There are large and small pieces, quirky works and mainstream works, edgy words and weird works, delicate country chic and chic modernist works -- all kinds of artisans making all kinds of ceramic. Some really fun stuff to check out, and it's not a paid attraction. Self guided walking tour with a nice pamphlet and some fascinating history. I had no idea but apparently this is THE pre-eminent spot in all of North America to be going to if you want to study or admire ceramics. If I'd only known sooner I would have made an effort to get up there earlier during the week of my stay ... but next time I come to Yellowstone area MT (and MT managed to woo me enough for a next time) I'll fershurz be coming back! PS: You can have items you purchase shipped, if you're from out of town!

Okay. Hands down this was the coolest most amazing experience I've ever had, in ANY business. I'd…read moregive this place infinity and beyond stars if it was possible. This is why. 1) The super kind mega tan dude carried my heavy ass basket of clothes from my car allllllllllll the way down to the dontation drop off. *sorry for parking at like the farthest spot possible, but thanks for being a babe and doing the heavy lifting * also, he didn't seem fazed by our crazy dog. And our dog wasn't really fazed by his presence either. Which is very rare. So this spoke volumes of dudes good character. 2) The gorgeous tattooed work of art in human form! This ladydude -wendy I believe- was doing mad work, kicking ass and taking names! I was pretty enveloped in the conversation I was having with the owner, but I could tell we could be hoooomies! 3) The owner aaron had a smooth vibe that was so easy to melt into like ice cubes in a glass of lemonade. This dude was a stranger but it felt like I had known him either my whole life or from a previous life. Conversation was born from thin air and grew into a full blown encyclopedia of shared knowledge within minutes. I'm a firm believer in everyone you meet is a reflection of yourself, which can be a hard pill for some folks to swallow, but that's a lesson for another time. But anyway. I feel like it was a compliment from the universe to have these amazing people be a reflection of me?! Seriously blushing. I left there ooozing with gratitude, thankful as fuck to have crossed paths with those stellar souls. These are the types of people that help you put your faith back into humanity. Much love and good vibes to you guys! -dev and trev & grandpaw the dog.
