Ou room, #12 was up on the 1st (really second) without a scenic river view. During the day they was quite a bit of noise from tourists outside talking and taking photos. Our room was good sized with a faux fireplace and king bed. The large bathroom featured a double vanity, tub/shower combo and toilet. Our room rate included breakfast as well. The room decor could best be described as cozy cottage with subtle floral wall paper, well worn plank floors covered by an oriental rug and tall whitewashed wainscoting. The low ceilings and dark interiors added to the subtly. We arrived quite early on a train from Ghent so weren't able to get into the room but when we returned closer to 3, we were checked in and our rooms were even up already.

The rooms felt a bit outdated, wish there were outlets near the bed, but my biggest issue was about the cleanliness of the room and how it was outdated. There were spiderwebs in the shower, hair in the bed, the carpet was pretty dirty, and there was even a urine smell from one corner of the room. I should have said something but I wasn't staying long and I already unpacked and didn't want to go through the trouble so I just stayed away from that corner but there was definitely a smell in my room.

We asked where some restaurants were and got a list of good ones. But as we walked outside and saw this cute little terrace with chairs facing the canal (with blankets) and had such a great vibe, we thought there's no better place to be then literally right here! We enjoyed a couple lattes it got the tapas plate. How perfect! So here we sit, enjoying the sun, the walkers-by, the boats on the canal and the amazing views.

We did take a taxi, but found out the entrance for guests is around the back on the cobblestone. You will need to go up to an elevator to find the lobby. The inside of the hotel is very cool, and very themed towards the old post office vibe that it used to be. The staff at the front desk is very nice and accommodating, and they will walk you to your room and show you everything. We had a room that was a king bed loft style, with the bathroom on the second level. They had cocktails little treats and stuff in the mini bar in the room. The bed was very comfortable. The windows opened up and looked out right into the city center. Wow it was beautiful and the perfect location!!! There are plenty of things within walking distance to the hotel, including the Castle, bars and restaurants, the river bus stop tram stop, etc. The hotel has an on-site bar and restaurant. We had a few cocktails from the bar. It was super cozy and a really good time! It appeared a lot of people from the city were there so it was a highly sought after bar to go to. Overall I really recommend staying at the post even if it's a little bit more expensive it's totally worth it!!

The view from our room was fantastic, one of the best we've ever had while traveling, and we loved the comfortable chair and bench facing the water. I do wish they had a bit more luggage space but the hotel was welcoming and comfortable and it's an old building which, we discovered on a tour, used to be a brothel. The hotel's history is showcased through the two gold swans that still sit facing away from each other on the front of the building. The swans symbolize fidelity and by facing away from one another and in gold they were a notification for potential patrons who could not read. To go back to the hotel in it's current form, the lobby includes two glass elevators at opposite ends of the hotel and breakfast is offered in the adjoining restaurant in the mornings. All in all, our stay at the Ghent Marriott Hotel was wonderful and I would highly recommend it to those looking to visit Ghent.

Food was great, service was great and loved our stay. Minor issue in Ghent is the no car zone area which resulted in my getting a traffic citation bill in the mail because it was like a 3 with a circle which was meaningless at the time. That being said I didn't even mind paying the citation because of the wonderful stay and staff.
