It was a great experience for me because I have never experienced African food. Food was great, but not 5 star. Still highly recommend!

Easily the best Eritrean food (from Ethiopia) I have ever had…read more My server spoke a bit of English and brought me an English menu. When I asked I wanted a selection of various items, she recommended I get the Beb'Ainetu--the selection of spinach, curried potato, yellow lentil curry, lamb curry and chicken curry with egg on the Injera (think tangy, fluffy-spongy pancake) was irresistable. Yes, the food takes a while to emerge. So treat yourself to a languid meal and savor the love with which this spectacular food is made. Here's a pro tip: eat ONLY with your right hand and fingertips. Do not lick your fingers. Flick excess food and sauce back onto your platter. Pick up some Injera with your fingers then tear it with 1 hand by grasping it between thumb and fingers and pushing away with index finger. Then plop the piece on pancake on the food you desire to pick it up.

When I visited, the restaurant was packed with mostly Eritreans which is a good thing since it shows the authenticity of the food. I had issues communicating with the hostess who could not understand clearly my American English. I was lucky there was a table left and was seated quickly. The menu is in Swedish. I used the Yelp app to view the reviews, tips, and pictures of the food. I ended up trying the lamb with injera. It took a while to get it, but when I did, it was God sent! Be prepared to use ur fingers. They also have a board by the bar with all the specials for the day. Great food overall. I'll come and check this place out again.

We were not told to get our own water or bread (it's on a side bar near the entrance). There was no one in the restaurant except two people already finished eating, yet it took 45 minutes to get our food. Two people came out of the kitchen and were loudly arguing while sitting at a table next to us. One was wearing an apron and then finally went back in the kitchen after I kept looking at them with annoyance. Too busy arguing to make our meal apparently. I believe they completely forgot about us or making our food. Service is abysmal. Not once in almost an hour did anyone come to check on us or tell us our meal was delayed or tell us to get our own water. The food was good, not great. Fries way too salty.

The restaurant wasn't bad but honestly it felt to much of a political place for me. I want a place where I can relax and enjoy the food and the environment. It was to much of ANTIFA, communist and hipster vibes for me. The place is very small and it can be tight. Fresh, renovated, clean, airy and smoothly lighted, plus African music of course! Loved the food. Strongly spiced, keep yourself away if you are not a fan of chili and cumin. We got a mixed dish with beef, lamb, chicken and lentil and I fell in love lentil thing. Very special bread, nothing that I had tried before. I was not sure about eating with hand but it went well, a new experience! The winner of the night was the Ethiopian coffee. What a fresh and smooth taste! With touch of cardamom. Nicely served. & popcorn! Surprise! The noise level is lower than many other places. It was possible to talk without shouting. But if you are after a place to seat and drink, this is not the right place. You have a drink menu but no space as a "bar" And not to forget, very nice and friendly personnel, ready to explain the details on food and coffee for you, just ask.

Except us there were a few other sitting downstairs. Well, most of us had not eaten Ethiopian food before so we knew its gonna be different from what we usually eat. The staff was very friendly and quick with everything. So I ate lamb stew, which was severed with a small salat and bread. The bread was the coolest thing I have ever seen. It was flat like pancake, it had almost the texture of pancake one side had like the pattern of a sponge. Really cool. And mixing lamp and bread was very interesting. I am a person who doesn't like when I have bone pieces still connected to meat or any sort of remains of fat from the meat, which was the case. I am sure this is a typical way of serving the food also if my mum cooks turkish she does the same. So I am kind of used to it but not necessary like it. And one of my friends actually ask the waiter for something different because she couldn't eat it like that not because it wasn't good. It was good. But as I said some people are used to having meat neatly cut etc. Either way it was a very good experience. If you love love Ethiopian food I guess this is worth the visit.

The food is nice and the prices are very neat. There is even a discount for takeaway. On top of that this place is also the only (?) place in town where you can gulp down a Tusker! Every time I drop by tell myself I should go for just a drink one day, but that has yet to happen. This summer they have opened up an outside bar at the corner of Sturegatan/Skolgatan. They also have an outside veranda on the back of the restaurant.

Yes, the owner is really nice and the decor is very attractive, but that fails to makeup for all the bad. The injera is not really injera. There is almost no fermentation...it is basically tasteless bread made spongey (somewhat like real injera) with some kind of leavener instead of fermentation. Honestly, it feels like it has purposefully been done that way to cater to non-Habeshas. Injera is an acquired taste, I give you that but the fermented injera really complements the sauces well, you miss that whole experience here. The restaurant is really busy, but the crowd here is mostly white, not one Habesha (Ethiopian/Eritrean) was seen. Usually, if you have no natives eating their own cuisine at a restaurant it is a good indicator something is off. The prices were very high, especially considering the small portions and the quality of food. The sauces and meats were seasoned decently, but nothing special. There is a berbere sauce that the restaurant offers that is quite delicious though. There is a nice selection of alcoholic beverages and the wait staff is attentive and helpful. When we went the card terminals were down and we were not notified ahead of time (we had to wait 15-20 minutes while the staff repeatedly ran our pay cards). We finally had to go to an ATM to withdraw cash to pay, this soured our experience more. Our time was compensated with a candy for each of us. :/ Final verdict: way over-priced, inferior injera, decent sauces, but good service and decor. Will not be going back. Honestly, make the trip to Stockholm instead (New Mama Africa, Gojo, and even Ethiostar would be better).

They offer a Cellar List of over 100+ Bottles and a very Special Tap List as well. I enjoyed two beers that are not available in the American market, one from Mikkeller and the other brewed for a local Wedding in 2014 by Brouwerij Alvinne. It is a very bright and eclectic venue with the bar and walls decorated with neon signs and photos. The lights are dim to give you a romantic, easy going vibe. I unfortunately wasn't able to enjoy lunch or dinner here but their menu looks fantastic with many Vegan / Organic Options. When the owner-general manager is the bartender, it makes for a positive experience! I hope to visit Babajan for a meal on my next trip to Stockholm.
