We stopped in for dinner and were fortunately able to be seated. It's a small place, so either make a reservation or be prepared to wait. All-vegan Chinese food, with a small but well-curated menu. Each main comes with rice. We ordered two mains -- a sichuan soy chicken dish and a sichuan smoked tofu dish -- as well as some stir fried morning glory (total: 700 SEK!). Everything was incredible: spicy, richly flavoured, fairly authentic. This was one of the best Chinese meals we've had outside our hometown of Vancouver, which is hard to beat for authentic Chinese. The prices are pretty nuts, but that's Stockholm for you. The food quality is so good, we almost didn't mind paying such prices. Highly recommended. read more

I'm so glad I was able to try Lao Wai while visiting Stockholm. We have a lot of vegetarian and vegan Chinese, etc. food in San Francisco, but the quality isn't always top notch. At Lao Wai, the seasoning and preparation were both right on. I also like that they do set lunches, which reminds me of the ease and simplicity of Japanese restaurants. And to top it all of, it was reasonably priced (which is not easy to come by in Stockholm.) Next time I'm in Stockholm, I'll be sure to go back. read more

VEGETARIANS & VEGANS! You have to eat here. Amazing Chinese food that is ALL vegan. This is my go to place when in Stockholm. It never disappoints. The flavors are authentic, rice is perfect, options are wide. The service is also good and super quick. I recommend making a reservation because this place gets pretty packed with locals. It's not a touristy spot but the locals love it so it gets busy. I've actually tried popping in before without reserving a seat and had to just order to go because the wait was going to be too long for me. Everything I've had on the menu is amazing. Lao Wai....... how do I love thee! Will you please copy and paste yourself into San Francisco? I have never had Chinese food this good. Ever. I have had few meals of ANY cuisine that can even compare. Combine this level of deliciousness with the fact that every single item on the menu is vegan and gluten-free, and... I have no words. Just pure, unadulterated love. I had lunch here once and dinner twice. I highly recommend the smoked tofu dish, and the mapo doufu, but honestly every single dish we had was delicious. This is a fantastic Chinese restaurant in Stockholm. This is one of the very few all Vegetarian restaurant in the city. The food here is of very high quality and extremely tasty (though some dishes might be a lil oily). They make all their dishes using Soy protein, which is a very commonly used substitute for meat. The restaurant is very small and gets packed at times, and they also close down for a month during Winter. So better call ahead before you go. Before Lao Wais dinner menu was more of a Dim sum set-up with amazing small little dishes to share. At the time getting dims um was practically impossible in Stockholm, but even if there had been other options I doubt they would have been able to beat Lao Wai. Since then they have changed to a traditional á la carte menu and while it is still good, I find that the way many of the dishes are seasoned and put together, they would be better as small dishes combined where you get to combine the different flavours. This would be easily helped by going to Lao Wai in a larger group and simply split all the mains, but since the restaurant is very small there possibilities for that are somewhat limited. For lunch they only have the option of one dish daily, They are all good - especially the ma po tofu which is among the best you can find in Stockholm - but when I was working in the neighbourhood I found that the same selected dishes were repeated a bit too frequently. When there is only one dish to choose from it would be nice to see a greater range of dishe sin rotation. Lao Wai was and still is a great restaurant. The quality of food is great and can, as a bonus, win over the most sceptical meatlover. Where it fails slightly is in the logistics and the limitations in the size of the venue. I really recommend that you make your first visit one for dinner to get the most out of your dining experience. But make sure you make reservations as there is little if any room for walk-ins. read more

Don't let the looks deceive you. As spartanly furnished, as good is the food in this vegetarian/vegan asian restaurant. Flavours ranging from really mild and delicate to more hearty but still fresh ones. Some dishes reminisce of "real" non vegetarian ones and could be a sellingpoint to coax the most hardy meatlovers to at least try Lao Wai. Open kitchen where you can glance over the chefs preparing the meals. The definite place to bring your vegetarian visitors (or yourselves of course) to. If nothing else, just go for the tea. Caution, be sure to book a table beforehand as the place is small and popular. read more

Wow. Just wow. It's evident that they put great pride in only using the best ingredients. Amazing flavors. Especially the appetizers left me in awe. The hedgehog mushroom appetizer blew my mind. Great service. Tea was delicious. Can't wait to eat here again! Would recommend it to anyone- vegan or meat eater. (Please note that the main dishes on the dinner menu are real big since it's Chinese style eating, you get your own individual rice bowl and then share from the same plate of food. This is a very special restaurant: the food is vegetarian and very good. Every day they have only one course, which costs 90 SEK. You come in, sit down at a table and will get the course and a glass of water. If you're not a fan of tofu, you should avoid this place, but if you're into good Chinese food and don't mind being surprised this is a great spot. Gets very crowded though, so a tip is to come early (before 12 pm) or late (after 12:45 pm). Bring cash, they don't take cards under 100 SEK and the daily course is only 90. read more

Best vegetarian restaurant in Stockholm, without a doubt. On top of that, it's vegan and gluten free. I'm trying different dishes every visit and they all range from "really good" to "BEST FOOD EVER!". Went to this restaurant while I was on a vacation in Stockholm, I was never treated disrespectfully like I did in this restaurant, they are mean and do not know how to talk to a customer, we went there first it was very full, so we stayed outside waiting, and we went back asking for a table the waiter was rude, and asked as to go outside and wait because the table was reserved, even though when we called they said we don't need a reservation, we were treated like trash. if there's a zero star I will be happy to give them that, I will never go there anymore read more

Lunch and dinner here are like two different restaurants. I had dinner here last year and would have rated it a 5. Lunch there today was a 2 at best. Customers had one dish to choose - in other words, no choice. The waiter? greeted us with a glass of room temperature water and mumbled something about one dish. No hej, welcome, or kiss my foot. The little dish of rice, mapo-tofu and a few mixed vegies he brought out was underwhelming. We both left half of it, over-paid 100 sek each and left. We had intended to make a reservation for my birthday next week but cancelled those plans. Today was completely different from the dinner we had here last year. Then it was the best, spiciest, vegan Chinese we had ever had. We've tried returning for a year but the place has always been closed when we came by. They seem to take frequent and long vacations.
