I am extremely disappointed with the service and craftsmanship at Gold Casters. I brought my engagement ring here for repairs three times, and the quality of work has been subpar every single time. The first time it was brought here to be resized, as it was my mother in laws ring. They resized it, 5 months later, the solder completely snapped off. They said they would re-solder it. 6 WEEKS later, it snapped again. I took it back, they said silver is not good for "longevity", daily wear etc... again, it had been SIX WEEKS; I don't shower, sleep, work etc with it on. Only then did they encourage a half shank (thicker material for a "permanent" fix.) Only, the ring is still visibly uneven with a noticeable seam left behind. Instead of properly identifying structural issues from the start, they offered quick, band-aid fixes and even tried to quote me $250 for work that should have been caught initially. I walked into Goldcasters recently while out running errands to ask about a watch battery replacement. One of the owners (I know he's an owner, because I've seen their cheezy TV ads) walked by me and gave me a disgusted up and down look, as if to suggest I wasn't properly attired to be in their store! If I were ever stepping foot in that place again, I'd certainly make a point to wear my finest! But, of course, I will never go back there and I discourage anyone else from shopping there. read more

I would not recommend this place. I came I'm with my boyfriend several months ago and we were looking at engagement rings. The associates were very keen on selling us a ring and we actually put money down on one. However, they also opened up a Wells Fargo credit card in my name after I explicitly told them not to, that we would be paying cash. that was a bit of a disappointment because it indicates they weren't even listening to the words that came out of my mouth. we left and I looked at the specs on the ring we had put money down on. there were all these letters and i didn't know what they meant, so I decided to Google. of course they were the cut, color, clarity, carat indicators. the associate had given us absolutely zero knowledge about the variations in these factors. that to me is the most disappointing takeaway. for first time diamond buyers, of course we had no idea what we were doing, and that I am sure was quite obvious. at first they tried to sell me a piece of crap diamond just because I told them what our budget was. quality matters to me and we would have been happy to spend more for a better stone, but like I said no education about the balance of the 4 C's was offered or even lightly touched upon. ended up buying a nicer stone from a different store for a better price. don't come here without doing your research and shopping around. read more

And im picky when looking at things, sooooooooooooo picky. I couldn't make up my mind, the peridot ring was gorgeous, the garnet ring is to die for, the citrine oye! It saddens me that we lost a great Jeweler downtown and Goldcasters is still around. My single experience with them left me with a horrible taste in my mouth. I will never shop there for anything. Period. I went shopping with my fiancee for wedding rings. The woman helping us seemed very nice and talked about how long she had been there and how much she knew. The rings we liked were pricey, and at the top end of the prices we wanted. As we were getting things settled, she mentioned that due to the ring sizes, we would have to pay extra for the larger rings. I understand this is standard, but for someone that has been doing that for so long to wait until the very end to mention that made me feel COMPLETELY like she was trying to add on as much as she could to the sale. We instantly refused, left, and bought our rings at Williams, which is now gone. The smaller but more intimate Settle Jewelry would be another find option. I was there asking for one replacement pin for the watch I was wearing. After taking my watch and returning with a new pin I was charged $10.70, $00.70 of $10.70 being tax. I think $10.00 for a pin that cost most likely less than $.00.50 is a little of an overcharge. read more

I can't say I was blown away. My roommate and I each brought watches in to have the batteries replaced. We were never told that they were finished, which I assume was to allow us ample time to look in hopes of us buying something. Their jewelry is quite beautiful, though. I felt like I paid a decent price to have the battery replaced - $10.70. However, when I got home my watch band fell off. I took it back and they fixed it for free...but then it happened again. I also had a fingerprint on the inside of my watch face. They were very nice about fixing the watch band, but in the end this was far more trouble than it may have been worth. read more

We were in town visiting family and decided to stop in to have the team fix some issues with my engagement ring, which was purchased out of state. Zach R. and Kyle were very welcoming and quickly checked us in to figure out what needed to be fixed. We received prompt, rush service at a very reasonable fee and my ring is looking as good as new! I have moved out of state and yet I am still on their mailing list. I have called them repeatedly (at least 10 times) over the last two years to ask that my name and address be removed from the mailing list. I was nervous going to Gold Casters. My BF said it was time to start looking for rings so I went after work today and honestly, it was really enjoyable. When I came in I was upfront that I was just looking and I still got really great treatment. Kyle, my saleperson, showed me some really beautiful bands that were in the vintage style that I liked and he was really respectful of my BF's budget. Kyle was also really fun and personable to talk to. He never made me feel like I was an inconvenience, even though we chatted about off topic things a lot. One thing that I really liked was that you can bring back your diamond and do an exchange and it goes up %5 in value each year. My BF isn't super well off right now, but it was really good to know if we wanted to get a bigger diamond at our 5 or 10 year anniversary that our stone wouldn't lose it's value. I picked out two really beautiful settings with Kyle. He wrote them down just incase my BF does go in, he can show him that ones I liked. and I REALLY hope my BF goes back. *edit* I almost forgot! Two years ago, my husband and I needed to have a gift engraved quickly (within one day), before an important anniversary, and Gold Casters agreed to get it done. I wish I'd came here the first time. I bought my engagement ring somewhere else but damaged it repeatedly. I had the repairs done elsewhere the first two times and I was highly displeased with the service and quality of work. The third time I decided to bring it to GoldCasters which was a fantastic desision!! At this point I had already paid more in repairs than had been paid for the ring in the first place and I was concerned about how they would react. (The first jeweler I asked about repairing it repeatedly commented that it would be more to fix the ring than it was worth apparently being unfamiliar with the concept of sentimental value). None of the sort here! Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful and the girl checking it in commented that she really liked it several times. I was given a discount from the repair quote I got online I'm guessing because I had all four prongs replaced instead of just one. When I got my ring back (the repair didn't even take as long as they quoted) it looked better than when I bought it!! They shined the bejesus out of it and the prongs seem sturdier than to begin with and match so perfectly you can't tell they have been replaced. I can't express how much they exceeded EVERY expectation!!! I highly recommend, they are quality craftsmen. read more

I am still waiting on a ring i ordered in January... The original salesperson tried to talk us into buying two wedding bands, because the one we liked wouldn't "last very long." I don't know if I look like I am made of money, but why would a reputable jeweler sell junk? Then, they forgot to mention that the company which was supposed to make it went out of business, and I had to call three days after the expected delivery date to find out why it wasn't in yet. When it finally came almost a month late, they had sized it wrong. They then brought over their sizing "expert," who for some reason was not consulted the first time I came in. They said it would be ready my mid-March, but when I called, their inventory person was "out." They said they would call but never did, and so I called again. "It should be in by the first week of April." I called again today to find out that no one was planning to tell me that the ring came in the wrong color and they had to reorder again. Meanwhile every time I call, they take my phone number and then ignore me until I call again because supposedly their inventory person has every other day off, apparently. I don't understand how this dump stays in business. I am coming in for a refund today and if I do not get it, we will meet again in court (if they bother to show up). read more

I've been collecting watches since 2009 and have dealt with a ton of different jewelers, but even though I don't live in Bloomington anymore GoldCasters is usually my first or second call. One thing that's clear to me is that they really care about growing and maintaining a relationship with me. I've spent a lot of money with other jewelers, and then I won't hear from them or they won't remember me, but that's not the case with GC. Scott Carpenter is always letting me know when they have something new and interesting in stock, and it's really apparent that he cares about getting to know his customers.
