After a few months into my pregnancy, I was exhausted from navigating the conventional hospital route with my prenatal visits. Jessie was an essential part of my daughter's 32 hour home birth! She is someone that just instantly makes every feel at ease and in a great mood when you are around her. I originally hired Jessie to encapsulate my placenta for me since she came highly recommended. But it just so happened that she was also training at the same birthing center where we were birthing our son at, so she was able to assist with his birth, too! She was AMAZING. Her presence alone is very comforting and calming, something you definitely want in your birth experience. I remember my labor was progressing very quickly and so contractions were getting intense. She coached me on how to work through them with more control, so that I not only made more progress with each one but also so I didn't ruin my vocal cords for life. I used Jessie as my doula for the birth of my first child in May 2018. Met with her December of 2017 when I was 18 weeks and she was so friendly and informative that I hired her immediately without interviewing anyone else. She stayed in contact with me throughout my pregnancy to see how I was doing emotionally and physically, due to my complications from hyperemesis gravidarum that resulted in my vomiting up until the end of my pregnancy. The morning I went into labor she responded to me quickly despite my water breaking at 530am. She checked in periodically and told my husband to let her know when she should head over. By the time she arrived I had been in labor for 6 hours and was in tears and ready to go to the hospital, but she was able to calm me down and help me through the contractions for another 4 hours before heading to the hospital. When my doctor wanted to start pitocin, she was able to help us weigh our options and I declined the pitocin because labor was progressing. After 16 hours of labor, I was disappointed in myself for deciding to get the epidural but she was able to provide me the emotional support I needed and reassure me that I was doing my best. She stood by me during the pushing phase of labor and provided the encouragement I needed to keep pushing and let me know that my baby was almost there. After my daughter was born, Jessie helped me breastfeed her for the first time. She checked in multiple times over the next few days and provided words of encouragement and advice to help me get through the emotional roller coaster I was experiencing. The placenta pills and salve she made have helped tremendously. Despite it being close to 2 months since my daughter was born, Jessie still checks in and answers any questions I have. For anyone considering having a doula, I highly recommend it and you can't go wrong with going with Jessie. My husband was with me from the beginning of labor and he was my rock, but we couldn't have done it without Jessie. Jessie is quite simply amazing!!! She spends so much time educating, addressing concerns and answering questions to make sure you/your partner are as ready as possible for birth. From the home visits to the countless text messages, Jessie supported us throughout my entire pregnancy. Jessie brings a very calming energy with her the day of the birth, which is exactly what we were needing. She spent the entire day with us at Hoag and was instrumental throughout the day, especially around the 20th hour of labor. She was a rock in our delivery room; she was nurturing and loving but also a neutral third party that was able to be a voice of reason when emotions were running high. I am so thankful for Jessie, I do not know what we would have done without her and we will definitely be using her again in the future. I wish I could give Jessie 10 stars! When I think back to our prenatal care and home birth I get tears in my eyes. Jessie loved us. My husband was sick and she would come to our house to bring him her home made bone broth. We were completely supported and loved through our entire journey. She became family. I will never forget the relief and excitement when I saw her face walk in to my bathroom. It confirmed it was really happening. I am a labor and delivery RN, as well as a midwife student. I have worked with countless doulas over the years and can honestly say Jessie is one of the very best! In the busy Hospital setting where nurses cannot always be at the bedside 100% of the time, Jessie gives continual support to her patients and helps them in any way possible. She has a way of keeping her patients at peace during what can be a very nerve-racking day. Additionally, she is very respectful to the patients, families, hospital staff, and doctors.
