Steve and his associate at Goldberg Design Group, Inc. did an excellent job on my behalf. We worked together to design and conceptualize a somewhat traditional-yet-modern home in Westfield, IN. Steve was very receptive to my feedback and able to put my ideas to paper. In addition, he made some excellent suggestions and came up with creative and effective work arounds for some design/space issues that arose during the design process. Meet the Business Owner: Stephen G.

Since 1988 Stephen B. Goldberg has been creating sophisticated, elegant home designs for his clientele. To date, he has designed over one-thousand homes in Indiana, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Arkansas, and even overseas. Design awards have followed; in 1991 Stephen won his first "Best of Show" Home-A-Rama Award; a feat that has been repeated many times since. As well, Stephen has been awarded an American Institute of Architects (A.I.A.)* local chapter Award for the Best Residential Design in 2005. We would rate this 0 stars if that was an option. This firm made many ridiculous errors and costly…read moremistakes. These included: not being able to measure properly resulting in having to relocate outlets, walls and equipment in a commercial kitchen, adding an unnecessary 200 amp electric panel most of which is now 'spare' breakers (an estimated $8,000 avoidable expense), missing electrical plans which delayed a certificate of occupancy, added gas lines on the roof to the HVAC units for heat - in Arizona with electric heat in the units, mistakes on standard building code items including ADA requirements resulting in permit delays and a notation from the city that 'the architect was unwilling or unable' to make the needed changes, after plans were approved sending revised plans to the contractor causing all kinds of havoc since everyone had different plans, upon finally removing unneeded gas lines on the roof, told the contractor to downsize the gas line to 1", with a 4,800 pound pizza oven en route from Canada, the gas company told us the line had to be 2" for the proper gas pressure causing the gas piping to be redone at a cost of $3,000 plus over $1,200 in additional fees on the oven installation due to the delay, and putting the wrong paint color on the plans, resulting in $850 to have the place repainted in the proper color. And those are just the highlights. The firm first refused to respond to our letters and emails regarding the issues and now refuses to accept responsibility for any of it. The firm will not refund us for any of the additional costs (some $13,000). They charged over $10,000 for the plans. All the problems with the plans resulted in a lot of delays which is no good for a new business. Would not recommend this firm to an enemy, let alone a friend.

They created detailed construction drawings for lighting and electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, and millwork including a stunning coffered great room ceiling. Furthermore, the team shepherded me through the appalling number of choices to be made whether it was upholstery, window treatments, flooring, bathroom tile, countertops, fixtures, or doorknobs. They actually found lighting (wall sconces, overhead fixtures, and table lamps) that I actually love, not just tolerate. Jeff was also able to deal with my family "stuff"; I come from generations who happily acquired (and kept) furniture, art, oriental rugs, and a multitude of accessories. Needless to say, most of these items needed attention - cleaning, reupholstering, refurbishing, or repairing. Each was sent off to the appropriate craftsman. The team was able to combine my old pieces with new furnishings that complement the old and fit in beautifully. Even the move itself went smoothly, largely due to the capable movers and packers recommended by Jeff, and the fact that all the rooms were meticulously planned prior to the move. Sheats even handled having the art hung and items placed in the display cabinets. Having a design group that "knows people" made everything simpler. And for me, having a designer comfortable with color (and lots of it) has made my new home very warm and welcoming.

He was able to find a…read moreselection of colors I loved in less than two hours and assisted me in finding a good painting company. He helped with advising me with managing the project and making sure I was happy with the final results. I would definitely consult Jeff again, his expertise, creativity, professionalism and flexibility not only helped me find the right colors, but helped me feel great about the whole project. I've picked out my own paint colors in the past and always regretted doing so. This is an expense that is well worth the investment!
