My youngest son was hit by a truck while standing on some steps in the front of our home back in 2007. I hired Kevin Goldberg to handle his case. While the process of an injury case is lengthy and can be frustrating at times, there is a lot going on behind the scenes that are not controlled by the lawyers. There is a medical and a juducial side as well that handles scheduling court dates, and a lot of times the calendar is booked for months ahead of time. We resided on the Lower Eastern Shore in Salisbury, MD at the time, but my son recieved his medical care at John Hopkins and Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, MD. Mr. Goldberg had someone from his office meet me at John Hopkins to start my sons case. My son's accident was on Mar 19, 2007 and he wasn't released to go home until August 29, 2007. Even after his release from rehab, his medical bills continued to soar because of his extensive medical needs. At the time of his release his medical bills exceeded $500,000. He sustained a TBI (traumatic brain injury), had a craneotomy done, his neck and spine had to be fused together, had to have a feeding tube put in and a tracheotomy.... and much more. To date he has had 10 surgeries done. 7 yrs later, he continues to have weekly physical, occupational, and speech therapy. He is 14 now, out of his wheelchair, no longer has a feeding tube or a trach. I said that to say it has been a LONG and expensive process. Part of your lawyer's job is to ensure that their clients' needs will be met for life, which is why they have to wait until AFTER the medical team advises them of your life long needs, to try and get you a settlement that will sustain your presnt and future care, and to leave something left over for the other needs and wants of the victim. Mr. Goldberg went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure my son's needs were met and was there for my family every step of the way during the process. Our case was not settled until May of 2010. At the time I was going through a divorce so I was a single mom raising 5 children. When possible, Mr. Goldberg would meet with us on the lower eastern shore so I wouldn't have to travel to the Silver Springs area. Due to my son's enormous medical bills, Mr Goldberg reached out to all of my sons medical providers in an attempt to have the amounts reduced and he was successful with all of them. He even reduced the percentage of what himself and his firm were paid in order to preserve as much of the settlement as possible for use for my sons needs. Mr. Goldberg occassionally keeps in touch with my son and our family to check on him and his condition. A lot of people have the misconception that all doctors and lawyers are just in the business for the money, but I am glad that I found one that truly cared about my son and his best interest and fought like hell to make sure he was treated fairly and that his needs would continually be met, especially since he was so young at the time of his accident. Last February, 2016, I was rear ended. The police came and said I should go to hospital. Though at first the damage didn't look terrible, the other cars' airbags went off. Police said I should go to hospital. From the scene of accident , I called Kevin Goldberg who said I should go to hospital. Though I'd read on Goldberg Finnegan website about the importance of filing the PIP report within 3 days., I neglected to do so. This firm negotiated w hospital and the insurance company to retrieve and complete the paperwork properly. Also the damage to the car was much more extensive than I initially could see as the floor base beneath the car was sagging and had to be completely replaced. These guys are very good at what they do. As long as you do everything they instruct you to do and be patient, you should be happy with the outcome of your case. The attorney that handled my case was Zach Myers. He told me everything that's expected of me the first day we talked faced to face and that's exactly what I did. Since they're really busy, you might not always get that quick response you want, but most likely, they're working hard on your case behind the scenes.
