I came here looking for Star Trek comics, they had a much newer one, but it was issue four. I wanted the original series comics and went to the back where the boxes were. One of the employees asked if there was anything I was looking for and since he was working where Star Trek would have been, I told him. They had none on the floor. He directed me to the man behind the counter, where they keep the pricier comics. Yikes! But they weren't crazy pricey. I ended up with two. The two men in the back reminded me of the two owners of a bookstore I frequented in the States, both were kind and friendly. The man running the register up front was just as sweet and kind. I didn't exactly have the best experiences in comic stores back in the states, and I was a bit daunted by this place. But everything was so different from my past experiences. I loved it! read more

I went through about 12 boxes and 3 stacks of golden and silver age books and ended up buying 12 comics. Prices were fair, but the best part is their comic grading is spot on! So many dealers today badly overgraze their books, but these guys know what they're doing. They sell slabbed books too. Overall, a fantastic experience! read more

Customer service was great from person at the front and back counters. A guy with white hair was talking very loudly from the upstairs portion. Kept shouting in the phone because he or the person the phone was having cell service issues. Loud enough everyone in the store could hear. He proceeded to yell at his employees asking for someone to get him another phone. The nice guy at the front ran to get him a comic because he misheard. The guy yelled at the guy saying he "asked for a damn phone". Ruined my experience and I decided not to support the business. read more

I visited Golden Age almost every other weekend when I was in grade 5 to 7. It makes me feel like a kid again every time I have a chance to visit. Whereas comics probably made up 90% of the business 30 years ago, now they also have toys, collectibles, games and other pop culture collectibles for the masses. One wall (the left side of store) is dedicated to current comic book titles. Comics were less than a buck in the 1980's, but they're now usually over $3. But, the paper quality has improved, and the artistry has gone off the charts....mostly. The right wall, which is where the counter is located, is stocked with action figures, Funkos, and statues. The more expensive pieces are behind the counter, or placed high up out of reach of greasy fingers. Prices of these figures tend to be significantly higher than most online retailers, so it pays to do your research before you buy. There were several young guys working the front counter who were very helpful in suggesting, and then finding some comics/graphic novels that were appropriate for my 7-year old daughter who I brought along. Usually, when a comic book store owner sees a young child in the store, they hit DEFCON 1 and get hyper paranoid about getting comics creased or boxes warped. We didn't get any bad vibes from these young guys, and they let us roam around without giving us the stink-eye. The back of the store has a lot of bins of past issues. I only looked through a couple bins and titles, but the ones I looked at were incomplete. You're more likely to be able to source entire sets on-line or on eBay. We came on a Wednesday, which is the day comics are released. The newest comics are found on a large counter at the back. So, the store was fairly packed with collectors looking to get their latest favorite titles. A few were probably hunting for exclusive alternate covers which seem like all the rage these days. It's a relief that comic books are still popular in the digital world we live in. Flipping through a comic book sure beats swiping a screen. read more

Comics are not my thing - but I had to go get some for someone else. I was given a criteria - budget, original selling price ( 10 and 12 cents ) brand ( DC ) lower series numbers,and I of course am really picky about quality ( no rips, writing all over ect ) The store is always very clean and well organized. I was able to browse without being made to feel uncomfortable. Help was readily available when I needed. I believe it was the owner who assisted me with comics that were behind the glass. Very friendly, fun to chat with, and helped me get everything I needed ! I even came in under budget! He was A+ The 2 other staff members who also helped out, were also friendly and gave me great customer service. Comics come in every price range you can imagine. They have so much variety - there is something for everyone. They also sell games, posters, graphic novels and a ton of figurines. Convenient location on Granville. If someone did not know something they found a staff member who did. Great for adult and younger readers alike. Stopped in at Golden Age Collectibles after veering off Robson onto Granville to check out comics, graphic novels, posters, T shirts, action figures, toys, and other merch (2/20/18). Decent retail shop using comparisons to indie shops back home in WA state: Silverdale, Seattle, and Shoreline. And of course land of Funko in Everett. The Homie pointed out a Star Wars figure in a display case I had bought at a Northgate Barnes and Noble in Seattle going for five times the cost Canadian! read more

My 17 year old step-son bought me a Christmas gift from Golden Age Collectables that he didn't realize I already had. He didn't keep the receipt but we figured we would try to take it in for an exchange since it was still sealed but sadly, no. The owner of the store didn't bother to even talk to my partner when he went in. Just gave him a terse, "there's nothing we can do for you" and went back to talking to someone else. We've shopped at this store for years and expected to be heard out at the very least. I'm really disappointed in the way this situation was handled. Ok, first of all, I'm NOT a comic fan by any stretch of the imagination. But my son and his friend are HUGE fans. Literally timed them at no less that 2 1/2 hours of browsing and buying in this big store. I finally said meet me back at the hotel and headed out in search of some take out. The staff was pleasant, but not overly friendly. I guess in this type of business, a customer really needing help is rare, ya know ..... Hey, do you have Batman issue #26? Where's the Inuyasha? Although an irrefutable nerd, I cannot claim to know a lot about the intricacies of the superhero universe. I especially cannot discuss the finer details behind the backgrounds of the villains, monsters, elves, cartoon characters, and murderous ninjas that are held within the great expansion of comics that line the walls of Golden Age Collectables. I'm not a huge comic book nerd BUT I am a huge collectible nerd and this place has tons. From big bang to game of thrones and everything in between this spot is always fun to step in and check out what's in stock. The stuff I've overheard from the staff hasn't always been pleasant with them mocking some customers after they leave the store because their knowledge of certain things wasn't at their level but most of the time it's been positive. The last time I was here, I saw a guy buying a bunch of stuff and because he had so much one of the employees gave him one of the items in his basket for free which really was a nice touch. It's a cool place to check out down Granville even if you don't buy anything. The people watching can also be top notch :P read more

Used to be a good store but an entires waist of time now. We were just in there shopping...no indication from the clerk that we were limited on time or needed to rush. I was speaking Tk one gentleman about a statue and my wife wanted a T-Shirt. Mid conversation the lights start going off and the other gentleman is physically herding people toward the door repeating "we're shutting down" Not only did they lose a potentially large purchase with us but there were 2-3 other people wanting to buy something! Golden Age Collectables is Vancouver's best known comic book store, and since the incredible Comic Book Shop moved and downsized years ago, Golden Age is undoubtedly the best stocked one. If it's a new comic that's hitting the shelves you'll almost certainly find it here. Old back issues are also in stock, though not in the number they once were, with a greater emphasis on the collections of graphic novels that publishers now put out. You'll also find a fair sized collection of memorabilia here, from sculptures and figures for the serious collector, to toys, mugs, and the like for the more casual fan. In addition to superhero fare you'll find quite a bit of sci-fi and fantasy gear: Dr. Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, and Game of Thrones all being well represented. Lastly, the store also caters to gamers, both board and role playing, to some degree. If you're into any of these things, Golden Age is a store you HAVE to check out. read more

I am here every Wednesday looking for my list of comic books, since they have my subscription. I buy my comic books here on a regular basis since I work downtown, and it is two blocks away from my office. The three owners here are amazingly nice, and they are helpful when looking for a specific book or wants to help with genre of the world of geek. The place is filled top to bottom with toys, and comics, and everything a geek wants in the world, except some special limited editions.... :P Regardless, it is a good store. A lot of the people who work here are nice people, ask for help if you are curious about anything within the genre of geek collectibles, and anything that can take your time! This place is in a good location, has a really nice layout, and is fun to walk in and look around. However, I wouldn't recommend spending any money here. When you compare the prices to any other comic bookstore, you can tell that they overprice their items. Yes I understand that the location must be expensive for them to rent, but why would I buy something here when there are a dozen other comic bookstores in the lowermainland that sell their products at nearly half the price? You're still supporting small business and saving a lot of money. The selection is good, but they don't carry anything out of the ordinary, just the basic stuff that you can get out of the Previews. It surprises me that they don't carry any Hot Toys or Sideshow items. Staff is friendly and helpful, but their product knowledge seems limited. I bought a couple of G.I. Joes for troop building, which is buying multiples of the same figure so you can have an army or squad of them. When I bought them, the staff member asked me "you want to buy two of the same one?" As if I were crazy. I don't expect everyone to understand this insane childish hobby, but it does shock me that a comic store employee wouldn't be aware that there are crazy collectors out there who buy more than one of the exact same figure. read more

Golden Age Collectables is easily the best comic book store in the Vancouver area. I love their downtown central location, their friendly staff, great decor, and good selection of comics and related items. It's a fun place to just drop by and browse as they have a narrow, but long setup. Their prices are fair and are always changing depending on the current value and markets. Golden Age is a great shop for comic books, whether you call them that or "graphic novels." In other words, whether your taste runs to action hero or indie comics, Golden Age's vast selection is sure to please. They also carry the classics and bestseller graphic novels of the past several years, such as Chester Brown's Louis Riel and Art Spiegelman's Maus. I'm a fan of the all-too-sporadic Optic Nerve series; the staff seem pretty patient with my regular "Is there a new one yet?" inquiries. They also have a fantastic array of toys - the kind that adults collect for themselves, such as action figures - and character merchandise. The vintage movie and music posters are also great with images of old Hollywood, the Rat Pack, and Elvis, plus contemporary movies and characters. They do fabulous window displays, and even if you don't consider yourself a comic book/graphic novel fan, it's a fun store to browse and get all lost in sweet nostalgia. read more

In honor of finally getting caught up on my Fables reading, I give you The Goldilocks Trifecta of Comic Book Store Reviews: #2: This chair is too big! Sensory overload! Sensory overload! Golden Age Collectables is like that friend that you have more-then-friend like feelings for - the whole experience was an odd mesh of butterflies, tingly feelings and overwhelming anxiety... But I liked it. The selection at this place makes my brain tingle. It is utterly dangerous to my pocketbook to venture within these walls. Not only do they have every dang volume/edition you could ever want, they will undoubtably have the hard cover version to upsell you on. New, old, classic, local - you name it, I browsed it. Plus with an impressive array of table top games, figurines & collectables this store = the full package. The only strike against this comic super haven? Being that it's right in the heart of downtown, this place is often super busy and the staff, though friendly and knowledgable, can be tough to pin down. Often when seeking specific titles, they'll just point in the general direction and leave you to wander aimlessly. But let's be honest, aimless wandering in a comic shop is not the worst thing and the staff to make up for it a bit with their always charming banter during checkout. It lacks some of the neighbourly charm of the quintessential comic shop but GAC is a great stop for those hard to find gems on your list. read more

Lots of choice, all new weekly comics on Wednesdays, graphic novels, toys, t shirts... My only fault really is the price of everything; always seems a touch over0priced, my purse shrieks a little when she sees me approaching the store! Ahh but it's good! For some strange reason, I'm absolutely DELIGHTED when I can find a store I love for unintended purposes. I love finding that place that advertises itself as having the greatest burger, yet discovering that they happen to have a wicked variety of milkshakes. It's this hunt for hidden gems in known places that made me, a non-comic book reader, spend approximately two hours just walking around "Golden Age" in awe. I should explain further that when I say I'm a non-comic reader, that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the culture: I have enough Batman t-shirts and Marvel movie DVDs to put most people to shame - and I one day DREAM of having enough money to finally get the Harley Quinn tattoo I've been planning for years inked on my leg. That being said, I don't have the sheer amount of reliable and disposable income required to get into the addictive world of monthly books. I'll catch up on the storylines through online summaries, I'll watch the movies, but I haven't picked up an actual issue in somewhere around 15 years. What makes me love Golden Age is all the OTHER stuff catered to a comic-appreciative crowd. T-shirts, posters, collectable figures, trading card games, everywhere I looked were things that made the 50% nerd, 100% child inner workings of my mind just jump for joy. The staff also seemed to be dipped in awesome, then sprinkled with a like topping of epic. The night I came in there was a guy working the counter at the back who (from the couple conversations I overheard) seemed to have an encyclopedic memory of all things that had ever happened in comic print, as well as an up to date and running inventory of the entire store, accessible by memory. The girl working the front desk (I'll give it a second for that to sink in... girl... working in a comic store... okay, has the room stopped spinning? Alright, lets continue) was not only at least 3-4 points on the standard ranking system more attractive than any woman I've ever seen IN a comic store (let alone working there) but was making D&D-style references to the goings on around her. I probably spent a good 10 minutes just puzzling over the fact that such a being actually existed. I didn't end up spending a lot of money there, and being from out of town I can't really make too many visits so I can't really comment on the ongoing state of business or even the pricing models, but the experience of just checking out this store was a lot of fun, and next time I find myself in downtown Vancouver, this will no doubt be on the to-do list for one of my free days. 17/30 read more

Pretty good, especially for a comic book store downtown! The graphic novel selection is great, well organized and well priced. And it's great to grab a comic or two on the way home. But they don't stock as many monthly comics as other places in town. This is understandable since most of their sales seem to come from trade paperbacks. They also stock some gaming supplies, and toys. As for the staff: I've had a couple great experiences, and a couple of fairly rude ones. Although I haven't had a bad one in a while. Great when your downtown, great to find a comic when needed, but you might have trouble finding specific comics. read more

I come here every time I visit Vancouver. It does not disappoint. Found great collectibles, jewellery, and older trades. Wonderful place.

For as long as I can remember, this place has been around. It has an incredible selection of comics and graphic novels. The most I've ever seen so far. You can find just about anything here toy wise as well, but expect to pay well above market value for them. They have been and I gather still are toy flippers. There is nothing wrong with this, the staff have always been nice, the layout makes it easy to find things I just give my warning that you're going to pay more than you should. read more

The best comic book store to go to in all of Vancouver! They have choice comics from Marvel to DC and have a huge collection of Funkos! If you're into Funko figures, I suggest you go to this place as they have a wide selection of Funkos! Some of the staff are friendly and some of them can be snobby. Not bad but almost everything is at least $5 more than everywhere else. I get you're open downtown and rent sucks but come on! I think the last time I bought something from there was years ago! Even though their location is not far from me, I would rather take the longer trip to another comic book store because I would get a better selection at a better price and could use a point card as well. I got opinions about the Golden Age, and many of them are mixed up with the residual nerd shame I carry around in my psyche like a purse dog. It's probably not fair to give the place a 3, (but I'm still gonna), as a full service comic shop they fulfill all your basic requirements. You got your current monthly titles and evergreen selections in trade paperback, a reasonable selection of indie books and a large-ish amount of manga, all fairly well organized. Plenty of apparel, games and toys as well, and a staff who between them can usually answer any of your questions. Pricing is pretty much par for the course, although some of their tags on Silver Age books and other more collectible items are on the higher side. At least they grade reasonably well, leaving aside the large number of CGC slabbed books, may god send a plague to wipe those shills off the face of the earth, amen. It's a perfectly good shop. Ultimately the reason I won't give 'em a four star review is that the place has no sense of community, and for yours truly that's an absolutely essential part of the comic shop experience. It ain't necessarily the Golden Age's fault, they got a lot of foot traffic and aren't really in a position to be able to talk turkey with every patron who walks through the door. Fact of the matter is though that Gobble Gobble turkey talk is what makes a good shop great. It's not enough for me to go in knowing what I want, I need you to know me a bit, know my tastes and be able to recommend books to me. Sorry if that seems like an unreasonable expectation, but I've had that experience at other stores (in Vancouver even) and without it a shop ain't never gonna be more than a place to browse occasionally. To be totally frank I might as well just order my books online. So yeah, as a spot to drop in and windowshop, rad. But it'll never be my homebase, more's the pity. read more

Most of the employees are not very knowledgeable or helpful. They seem to be more interested in checking their phone or socialising then helping the paying customer. I always find what I am looking for and the staff are awesome. I like my comics, however, I am not a hard core comic geek and they don't make me feel any less than for not being hard core.
