Tonight was my 2nd visit here to browse and sell a bunch of Pokémon cards. The experience has been nothing but courteous and polite. The staff and owner are very transparent about their buylist and prices. And even willing to help differentiate which cards may be sold at a higher value in private. Ebay and online direct sales are much different, and I fully respect that. I'll certainly be coming back with more items. Thanks again for everything! read more

I don't really talk about what tabletops/board games I play but my experience there for the fourth time was disappointing all because of one particular customer who I've encountered several times at Metrotown. I was planning on asking the staff which particular tabletops/board games would go well with songs by Phil Collins, particularly "Sussudio", but my chance of asking was diminished until this customer came in. It was Ernest Tsui, a regular at Sakura Media and a Kingsway store that sells products for doing the nasty, coming in and about to look for something until his eyes were locked on and finger pointed to me then started ranting false statements about encountering me at Metrotown. I was surrounded by some of the staff and maybe two or three people besides me and Ernest. The staff and customers looked very uncomfortable, probably shocked by his pervasive profane and derogatory terms while he continue to make false statements about me. I told him to stop it and he would not listen while continuing to accuse me for being racist and being on his way without communication. I turned around and started to walk towards the front door and then Ernest started shouting ridiculous threats to me such as "YEAH, YOU [derogatory term]! YOU WALK OR [profane term] WITH ME! ONE ON ONE, NO WEAPONS! FIGHT LIKE GENTLEMEN!" and I looked back and exit the door while he continually annoys me with his threats and at one point, shouting about encountering me next time at a board game convention and fight in wizard costumes. I exited the door and put on my headphones to listen to Sussudio by Phil Collins to put off my stress. I am skeptical about going to The Connection again after bumping into Ernest Tsui. It is unfortunate what day it occured...really is. I'm glad I was not provoked or it would have been a sad story indeed. read more

I come here from time to time for some MTG and board games selections that are out of print. This place quite well maintained for it being a geek store. They try to have everything here from Board games to Video Games to Card Games to Comic Books. It pretty much is an awesome place to do everything. The staff here seem friendly enough to talk to and is willing to always lend a hand and help out with your problems. I just love seeing the place filled with all types of geeks, video games in the corner, tables filled with people play board games/MTG and D&D. There is a pile of comic books for sale on the wall, and the place is STOCKED with snacks and cold drinks. The only thing I dislike is that the parking is extremely lacking and that we have to park in the neighborhood where people live :X but overall, I love the place. I will be coming to here from time to time. read more

This store is a big step up from their earlier store on Victoria Dr. This store is bright and comfortable. These people enjoy games and know games because they play games. Many current European and American titles are stocked. Also, this is also a good store to be exposed to the world of miniatures. Much nicer and less pushy than competitors like Games Workshop. They also have an excellent selection of comics. Connections works hard for your money and delivers the goods. read more

The Connection is definitely the best place for gaming (cards, board games, etc) in the city, in my opinion. I was bummed when they had to close their Marine Dr location because it was more convenient to my house (but if you go by you'll see why, the whole complex where the store used to be is now a giant hole in the ground!) But this location is really nice too. Convenient to the Skytrain, although slightly hard to find (it's behind the mattress store, a bit hidden!) A fun place to play games with friends, and I always pick up my TCG packs here. Plus they sell those little bags of mini M&M cookies, so who can say no to that? Also, the staff is really nice. No snobbishness, always helpful, never judgemental when you buy a pile of booster packs and a lot of snacks... Overall a great place to get your games. read more

this is my updated review after a rather lackluster review earlier by me. in this update, im upping my marks for this place after spending about a year doing FNM and pre-releases there. The staff are much more friendlier and knowledgable, and host great events to the best of their ability. pretty much anything bad i have said in the past is now...of the past. great store and great place to play some cards! Selection: Very nice, big selection of trade paperbacks and hardcovers, from the big two (DC and Marvel) plus some smaller press stuff. They have a fairly small singles section, but it looks like they get most of the new stuff that comes out week to week. What I enjoy is that they have some harder to find hardcover books. They have a large game section (card games, figurines, etc) and this seems to be a significant part of their business (duh. Just look at their store name!) There are plenty of gaming supplies and figurines to go around. Presentation: It's a pretty neat comic store. Lots of open space, but most of that space is used for gaming. Their books are not shrink wrapped, so you don't feel guilty trying to rifle through them. That said, sometimes you come across a bit of damage to the book because they've been rifled through. On of the books I picked up had finger prints from someone who had clearly been eating before they touched the book. 99% of their books are perfectly fine though. Culture / customer service: Every time I go, even later at night, there are usually a few people playing card games or playing with those figurines that you can paint yourself (sorry, not a gamer, so I have no idea what I am talking about here). They do offer some refreshments just in case you need one while you are playing those games. I have never had to ask for help from anyone there, but they seem like a nice, friendly bunch. Nothing really positive or negative sticks out in my mind. Price: US cover prices for their books. Sorry, I do not know the gaming supplies very well, so I have no idea what a good price for those are. They have a customer appreciation incentive program: every $25 you spend, you get a stamp. 10 stamps to fill the card. 1 card = 20% off your next purchase. read more

I used to come to the Cambie location, however, this is now closer to me. Same great customer service and selection. I mostly come here for gaming accessories and set ups than I do comics. Very fairly price. read more

This is my go to spot for anything D&D related. They are highly affordable, sometimes having bundle deals where you get $75 worth of campaigns for $35. They have a large collection of Warmachine, Games Workshop Warhammer and 40K and a wide variety of board games. This is a must stop if you are in the area. read more

finally a game store with windows and a view of the outside! totally relaxed environment and a fun group of people to play board games with. board game nights are on tuesdays and they have a great selection. a lot cheaper than any other game store i've found in town. highly recommended. read more

Will wait 20 + minutes for someone to smoke up and get food between event rounds but not for someone to show up a touch late.

My friends and I just went to the Magic Celebration event today at 2:30pm (Sept 8, 2012) and they said that the event is over. The website clearly indicates that the event lasts from 12pm-5pm and when I told them, all they gave me and my friends was a glaring look and a lame excuse claiming the event started at 11am and ends at 2pm. Another person standing near us also said the same thing but they just ignored it. They also said that the event was a first come first serve basis which I can understand. But when I looked at the counter where the two store owners were standing, there were clearly MANY Magic 2013 packs left and thus could have allowed us to participate. There wasn't even that many people playing in the store! The store owners obviously want to keep the Magic 2013 packs, given to them for free by Wizards, to themselves so that they can sell it even though they are NOT suppose to. This was the first time my friends and I went to this store and it definitely is our last. We do not approve of their business practices and we highly do not recommend this store to anyone. There are much better stores with much better customer services around. read more
