I came here with my partner for their D and D one shot night on a Wednesday. The admission was $15 a person and then you get to choose a dungeon master/the story you want to play. We had never played D&D or any other similar role playing game before and it was a delightful experience. Our dungeon master and the other players helped explain the rules and game play to us, and there were premade character sheets to choose from. It was so fun to get involved in the world of our story and was a welcome break from our own lives for a night. Overall it was a really fun time and it was a great introduction to the fun of role playing games. I can't wait to come back soon. read more

This is a cute shop with a good selection of games, but please please please change the layout of the retail side. All of the retail games are on a wall, that run parallel to the counter, right in front of the entrance. The two times I've been here I've always felt in the way, due to the bottleneck of people standing in front of the door, trying to browse games, while other people are trying to make their way through to the back. After about 15 "excuse me"s, I end up leaving. It's just too hard to browse and not be constantly getting out of the way. read more

I love this place! Took the kids here after finding street parking a block or two away. The person working at the front was sooo sweet and patient. The kids were there to buy Pokemon cards with their allowance, and he answered every question they had. Meanwhile I was eyeing the more "adult" activities like drinking beer on tap and playing DND in the back. They have a variety of games and trinkets in such a small amount of space. I was amazed by the wide selection of board games. Every wall is covered with shelves of games. There were 4+ versions of Catan. I was also shocked to see D&D figured available to buy + paint. They host events with a huge chalk board of events. Time fly with some games and a butterscotch beer drink. The bathroom was also interesting. Every wall was a white board with expo markers available to write on the walls. Very unique space :) read more

Cute little hole-in-the-wall game shop. Obviously spec'd to cater to those looking for a place to game socially and hang out with friends, as they have a backroom area with tables and chairs, as well as a little cafe with drinks, snacks, and beer on tap. They sell a solid number of board games and D&D miniatures, as well as D&D manuals. They also have dice and collectible cards. I got some fun geeky stickers while there. They have a whole blackboard calendar on the wall so you can know what events are coming up in advance. Apparently they have a one-shot Wednesday that's pretty popular. Definitely sounds fun! My teen comes here with his friends for a fun afternoon or night out. It's something to do besides a movie or roaming the mall. We decided to try it out for a family day with cousins and I was blown away by the sheer amount of variety in game choices and by how well the person working there knew their inventory. We discovered a few new games, and ended up purchasing one, which we've played several times since. There's lots of books and crannies here and they also offer camps for kids and teens. read more

Golden Game Guild is an amazing place! First off, there is a strong offering of high-quality games for purchase. The owners will coach you through your decision to ensure you find a good fit for your specific skill level. The best part in my book is the ability to play any of their 300+ games for a reasonable cover charge. It's an impressive collection; here's a small sampling: Pandemic, Scythe, Dominion, Terraforming Mars, Spirit Island, and a new favorite of mine (as of tonight)...Everdell. But you don't have to be a hardcore gamer to enjoy this shop, they also offer a variety of beginner, family, and party games...there's something for everyone. I watched the owners sit with two separate tables of people and teach us how to play games that were new to each group (with patience!). With drop-in game nights on Mondays, one-shot Dungeons & Dragons sessions on Wednesdays (check exact scheduling), and Magic the Gathering drafts on Fridays, Golden Game Guild is building a great local gaming community. I can't believe the Golden Game Guild exists, but thankfully it does. It's a blast! read more

So I am a board game convert after making fun of my husband for his collection. After a snow day I luckily was hungry and got to enjoy eating those words because wow board games that aren't Monopoly or Catan are a delight. The Guild is a perfect place to camp out for a couple hours and try a game or two you've eyed at Target. For a $10 day pass you can bring snacks, try any game, go get food and come back or order from their beer and coffee bar. The staff is so knowlegeable and can help point you in the right direction. I have been wanting (for about a year now) to introduce my son in a safe environment, to role playing games, and along came Golden Game Guild: YAY! First off, I want to say that Ryun and Gabby make you feel at home, and it has been such a wonderful experience for my ten year old, that I just can't say enough amazing things about them and the experiences they offer. Each Thursday, my kiddo is a part of the after school D & D club, and it is something he looks forward to all week: a chance to play pretend with others who love fantasy and board games as he does, in a controlled, safe place. We're really looking forward to the summer camps they offer, and we have also already purchased a great new cooperative board game that my son simply loves. They also offer kiddo birthday parties,and we are already signed up for a summer birthday adventure here at the guild. If you're looking for an introduction to a tabletop game or an rpg style game, this is a fabulous place to dive in, learn and make new friends in the process. I would imagine it will be a huge hit with middle-schoolers like mine. I'm so glad Golden Game Guild has come to Golden! read more

So, I was surprised to come upon this place. The metro area is so rich with game stores already, I wouldn't think another could be supported. I'm happy to see it though. I wish them good luck. What we have here is a store that charges a cover charge to play games from their library. That's fine. I am used to places that don't charge (Night Owl; Enchanted Grounds) so I would rather not pay, but I realize this place has bills to pay so I don't find it at all unreasonable. Then there is the retail section, up front. It seems reasonably well-curated especially considering its modest size. The reason for removing two stars is that this place is committing what I consider to be a cardinal sin in retail. There are no prices on anything. You have to ask a staff member every time you're curious about a price, and they have to look it up. Totally unacceptable and once I realized this was their practice, I left. read more

This place is AWESOME!! Tons of games to buy and almost every game available for purchase is also available in the game closet to play before you buy. It's ten dollars and you can sit there and play to your hearts content. The staff is SUPER knowledgeable about the games and so so nice.
