Place is Aweosme! We take our 6 YO daughter here and she LOVES it. They gave us free classes to try it out and see how our girl liked it before signing up . I will say that their instructor Mike and his assistant, not sure what her name is are both VERRY good with kids. The way they interact and teach impressed me. The place is very clean and well setup. All the kids seem very happy and exited to be there and I'm glad our friend told us about this pace. Started here about a year ago and am so glad that i did! Mike and Dane have been excellent owners and instructors at GSBJJ and they are very passionate about their career/jiujitsu. The people here are good people. They share their knowledge and are humble. No arrogant people trying to prove that they are better than you and smashing you, like at some other gyms I've been to. Lastly, the cleanliness of the gym is an important factor to me when choosing a gym. At golden state, the mats are cleaned after every class. I like how they clean right after class so that we can all see the mats being cleaned. It gives me a sense of security from bacteria, diseases, covid...etc. Give it a try. Dane was very approachable and offered me great insight into improving my game. The gym has a nice bathroom and clean environment overall. Everything is properly cared for. I always thought of BJJ gyms as hyper-masculine and off setting, in other words, not very welcoming. Especially for beginners, dudes wanna beat up on you, will ignore you, and treat you like the little person. Despite of previous interactions with other gyms in the South Bay, Golden State BJJ changed my mind. The gym is a laid back - and serious - training ground for beginners and advance BJJ enthusiasts. Professor Dane and Mike welcomed me into the gym, made introductions to other members and consistently come around to check on me to make sure I am understanding what is being taught. Some highlights for me are: great GI and NO Gi scheduling. Plenty of parking. Trader Joes and a handful of other stores across the street from it. Plenty of space. Easy month to month payments. Close to 405 freeway. The gym has a very "South Bay" type of vibe. People are welcoming, talkative, and friendly. Kudos to the playlists that accompany a good pre-lecture workout. Awesome jujitsu school in the South Bay. My buddy invited me to roll one Saturday and I was happy to pop in. The layout was great. In the back room we're two changing rooms and a bathroom. The people were awesome and very friendly. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. Professor Dane led the warm ups which consisted of the usual martial arts sequence: running, shuffling, cariocas, and a variety of movement drills. Coming from a Gracie school with a more low key warmup, I was happy to be sweating by the time it was over 20min later. During the technique segment, I particularly liked how we drilled the movement prior to going into the full technique with greater detail. The pace was faster but intentional. Like most independent jujitsu schools, we had the independence to roll with whoever we asked. At Gracie Barra schools, the professor chooses who you roll with. If you're a small girl like me, you'll most likely be paired with other small girls or kids close to your size. It was nice to have a greater variety of body types to roll with. Great experience here! Highly recommended for great people and an awesome workout. read more

Hands down, Golden State is run by the BEST BJJ instructors you'll ever have and I'm so happy to see that they opened up this new place! I've known them for a couple years now and because of them I don't think I can ever leave LA (ugh!).. Even while moving around the country and actively training at up to 4 different schools, I ALWAYS found myself thinking about Dane and Mike. Had the pleasure to visit Golden state Jiu Jitsu. Facility is very well maintained and clean and had no issues with Parking. Instructors Dane and Mike were very hospitable and welcoming. The classes are very structured with your 30m warm up, 30m instructional drilling, & 30m light sparring or hard if you're young and don't know any better! :) The instruction its self was pretty detailed. focusing on technicality and precision. Dane and Mike make a good team and seem to have a pretty good grasp of everyone in class. The facility gets pretty warm & humid with little oxygen but it helps you elevate your cardio to the next level. Black Belt lineage is from Renzo Gracie. I dropped in here today for the Saturday class as my current Professor is friends with the Professors that run this school and I have a friend who goes here as well. I had a great time! Professor Dane teaches with great detail. The class started with some warmup, then some stand up (some school tend to neglect this part of the sport). We moved on to ground moves where he taught the moves in sequence with a good amount of time to drill as he also walked around to make sure all his students were doing it correctly. Then there was a couple rounds of specific training with the position we were focusing on that day. And then after that there was 30 minutes of sparring. Then there was even a bit of time after that to drill or just hang out if you wanted. Honestly, in my personal opinion that's the best format you can ask for. Warm up, standup drill, ground drills, positional sparring, sparring, and a semi-open mat afterwards. That literally covers everything! The owners are very friendly and all the students as well. For the past 15 years I've only been working out at the gym, so I decided to give Golden State BJJ a shot. The 2 professors are extremely professional, and nice. They allowed me to try their class first to see if I liked it. Oh man did they bust my butt, which is great because it's something new to shock my body. Can't say enough about how great Golden state Bjj is!!!!! I started training under them at 5 star martial arts under Professor Shawn Williams ( Black belt from Renzo Gracie ) a few years ago. Shawn Williams is one of the most technical instructors out there and that attention to detail made its way to Golden State Bjj. Mike and Dane are two of the coolest and relaxed guys and make this a place great for anyone regardless of their experience. Theyre very hands on with their students and cognizant of the students health, ability, and injuries. I've been to other schools where you get thrown to the wolves which can be very intimidating for a lot of people and probably the reason people don't continue with Bjj . I started my training again with them after taking a few years off jiu jitsu and they helped me ease my way back into training to make sure I don't risk any injury. Only complaint I have is that the kids classes get to do cool stuff like dodgeball and nerf gun wars and I've still yet to see that in an adult class. The best BJJ studio in the South Bay! The environment is very welcoming and everyone is super friendly! My son and several of my friends children train regularly at golden state BJJ. I love that the dojo, the restroom and the changing area are always very clean. Most dojos have the smell of armpit or too much testosterone in the air but not this dojo. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to learn BJJ. There are black belts teaching the class, oppose to other dojos where the brown belts teach the class. I did my homework on all of the dojos in the South bay and none come close to golden state BJJ. All ages can train here and learn the art of jiu jitsu. read more

Mike and Dane run the best kids jiujitsu program, period. Not only do they make learning jiujitsu fun for the kids, they also focus on teaching the kids about things like discipline, hard work and responsibility (among other things). I've visited most of the BJJ clubs in the area and decided to go with them because of the awesome people that train there who are very supportive of each other no matter what level you're training at. I've visited most of the clubs in the area and felt like their club had the best facility and is one of the few places that start standing and actively practice take downs. I was lucky enough to train with Mike and Dane for 3 years. I had trained at another place for a while before that, but it was a white belt grinder, and my first class with Professor Dane showed me that I didn't even know what jiu jitsu was. Then I spent two years traveling, training at other academies when the chance arose, and I could always hold my own against pretty much everybody. I was told that I was "solid" twice (That was my favorite.) Mike is really gifted with the kids, and it was cool to see the change in his students over time. He really is a patient man. Their background is very deep in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu lineage and their technical knowledge is very different, which is hard to explain unless you've trained. Best of all they can both deal out a serious SMASHING, they are great guys and I'm sure they are going to build another tribe of beasts. Good luck, guys. Owned by 2 of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, black belts Dane Molina and Mike Farrell. Dane is a phenomenal instructor with an attention to detail that you typically don't see. Both Dane and Mike are also great with kids (in addition to not-kids) and ran the kids program at another school I trained with them at for quite a few years. They finally opened up their own academy (Golden State) and I would highly recommend anyone who is either interested in learning jiu jitsu, taking their kids to learn jiujitsu, or who already trains to go check them out. They do both Gi and no gi, and the parking is great (because doesn't everyone care about good parking?). Super clean , and with the doors open there is a really nice breeze.
