However, she's 60+ and has health issues. And supporting my husband can be physically demanding. The other four caregivers sent to us for weekends have been trouble. The most recent consistently showed up almost an hour late. Twice, she didn't show up at all. She also had what appeared to be a manic episode, perhaps a panic attack, in our home. She said she needed to go to the hospital, needed medication. We urged her to go. She refused. She, my husband and myself reached out to Edison for an emergency replacement. They never provided one. She spent the rest of the weekend mostly in her room. My husband and I walked on eggshells. It was a disturbing experience. Our highly capable, hardworking and kind coordinator assured me that this caregiver would not return to our home. A few weeks later, to cover our stellar caregiver's vacation, our coordinator's substitute sent this unwell, unstable person BACK to us. She said she'd be 45 minutes late. Then two hours late. Then four hours late. Then Edison called to say she wasn't coming, and they were seeking a replacement. Our wonderful new aide stayed. She has a little boy. His babysitter needed to leave. I stayed home from work. My husband is mostly bedridden. I've had three surgeries in the past year - knee, spine, double hernia. I'd tried to avoid this kind of fiasco by calling Edison in advance. No coordinator or manager answered the phone on Thursday or Friday. I left at least six messages. Our wonderful vacationing caregiver returns in 10 days. Edison has provided no information regarding coverage. In short: you may get lucky. You may get a coordinator like Tanya, and an aide like our beloved Gina. But the downsides - careless, inattentive and/or troubled caregivers and lack of communication make Edison an agency to avoid if at all possible.

Blows a whirlwind of marmaluke spirit! The aides are in it for the loot! No care abt the pt. only…read morebut their selfish selves. Putting value over humanity! What's a matter u??? Aides are taking selfies like Kim K. A famous star on Edison dime. Even in the elevator! This aide is in love with themselves!!! Not too sharp! Unwise w/o a clue. Got too many calls & called too many times! What in the world! Aide came to work w/ a clutter of thick gold around their neck. Do not think they knew who they were but maybe an entertainer! A legend in their own mind. This is what the co. hires. These aides do not know how to use chux properly, uses too much soap ,dish detergent,& garbage bags, has the nerve to tell me the broom,& dustpan are too huge!!! Aide does not pay my bills ! The nerve! PS When an aide took care of their relatives in the past dies not qualify them to be a "PCA" Plz Edison screen these ppl carefully! I had an aide that wash my painted walls,& wooden furniture w/ a wet sponge!!! Why ? You clean a wall with a spray cleaner & clean furniture w/ a dust rag ! What a spaz !!! Who told him to touch ,let alone use objects that ruined my wood & walls!!! That he cleans! I never asked him to! He never mopped or washed my floor but cleaned walls with a wet sponge!!! He put a knife standing up to dry on the rack. Put spoons down instead of facing upwards ! The aide had the mind of a cartoon character! Very immature for a 50 + yr old! And took tantrums like a 2 year old!!! This aide was so ehh, that he brought his kid to work when they had no babysitter!!! And used globd & globs of Vaseline on pt. Thus wasting item & ruining bedsheets w/ Vaseline! My mistake kept them too long ! I should have thrown them out on their first day. Oh PSthey took a crazy tantrum outside and inside. Inept homecare !

My stepmother got terrible treatment from these home hospice care nurses. When she was in the ER I…read moreasked the nurses to do a UTI (urinary tract infection) test since she had mental confusion just before. The ER nurses said she had normal temp and vitals and didn't want to do anything invasive. They said the broad spectrum antibiotic they gave her would take care of any UTI. I found out later that this is not recommended for UTIs since it can make them resistant. A narrow spectrum antibiotic is recommended, and then one after the other has to be tried quickly. UTIs are the second biggest cause of elderly women going to the ER. The hospital recommended this hospice. My stepmother at her home continued to lose appetite and not feel well. I called the 24 hour hospice nurse and she was in the area. However, just like the regular hospice nurse, she said they go by three signs of UTI only: the patient has to have temperature, mental confusion, and different urine than usual. I told her about the mental confusion from a couple weeks before but the nurse said it had to be recent. I said I looked it up and elderly people do not show the same UTI signs, they show loss of appetite, fatigue. The hospice nurse said they only go by these three and said she did not even have any equipment to test UTI. I was told by the other hospice nurse that I could get UTI test strips from a pharmacy to test myself and if positive they would do a further test. I wanted to go get the test strips the next morning. The nurses refused to send her to hospital as you give up your rights to do so yourself. They told me they didn't want to extend her suffering as she was going to die anyway. Which she did the next day, most probably from a UTI infecting her kidneys and causing sepsis, as she did not have any other real causes. Stay away from these people.

If one of your loved ones is sick and needs hospice care, I beg of you, for their sake, do not…read moresubject them to MJHS Hospice care. I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. My mother was sent home on hospice, and after receiving recommendations from friends, we selected MJHS. It was a terrible decision. MJHS is an infuriatingly bureaucratic organization, utterly incompetent, designed to give the absolute minimum care possible, and to save money at every turn. They do not care about the patients whose lives they exercise control over; they care about their bottom line. With MJHS, getting even the simplest, most critical requests done is unacceptably slow. Need a refill of morphine? That will take 24 hours; hope you didn't run out. Ran out of Atropine on a Friday? Sorry, we can't handle that until Monday. Need a new piece of medical equipment? You'll probably have to call multiple times and be extremely persistent before anyone will lift a finger. Here's what happens when you call MJHS. You will reach a customer service agent, who is not medically trained, who is not able to do anything. The only thing that person can do is to take a message. They will then, supposedly, pass that message on to a nurse, who will supposedly do something about it. In many cases, the nurse can't do anything either, so they will supposedly pass the message onto a doctor, who will pass a response back to the nurse, who will then pass a response back to the customer service agent, who may decide to call you. Of course, that usually doesn't happen, and by the time it does, the message has usually been so garbled that they got it all wrong, and you will have to start the whole process again. I want to be clear that my experience was not limited to a few bad apples. I probably interacted with two dozen MJHS employees and almost all of them were bad. This organization is fundamentally broken. Dealing with MJHS is similar to dealing with a large impersonal company like AT&T or Verizon. Ask yourself: do you want to trust Verizon's customer support line with the care of your loved one?
