Located right on one of the town's, shopping, dining and family oriented social squares, you might be challenged to get your car within a block or two during the most popular hours on a nice weather day, but you will be rewarded with an experience at the oldest hotel in the city.
The Zum Ritter deserves its place in history with so much richly preserved art and craftsmanship both in and out.
Our front desk, professional, Sam, was easy to meet, at once comfortable and welcoming. When we returned late at the end of our first day of touring, Sam greeted us and asked if we might like a tour of the hotel.
Somewhat tired, but eager to understand, we accepted the invitation. Sam poured us a glass of champagne then let us through various elements and aspects of the hotel. such a rich history.
The hotel has withstood time through fires and war, unlike so many of its counterparts in the area. But it has been so intentionally and carefully preserved after so many hundreds of years, is a rich treat.
Onto the actual accommodation...
The rooms have been renovated, and while keeping much of their old world charm have modern windows and clean lines. The bathrooms are also modern and clean, functioning and well and comfortably.
The breakfast offering at 17 Euro is more than good. They offer a full German breakfast along with fruit, eggs and bacon.
Coffee is available in your room.
BTW The scrambled eggs are the best I've ever had!
You can opt for a room with windows out onto the lively square or one that opens to a quiet residential corridor or back alley. Either way a cool and gentle breeze will blow through to aid in your sleep and repair after even the warmest of days ,(rare, and still easy to manage, in spite of the fact there is no air conditioning).
For an interview who traveled in old world Europe, and been interested to sample a historic accommodation, you know they often do not have lifts. Fear not, as you're covered with a nice lift in the Zum Ritter.
In summary, peaceful, authentic, friendly, well positioned, stately and comfortable. What more could you ask?
