Oh hell yes. WhT a great meal. Near perfection. Authentic German-the menu is hand written German. The building is older than the United States by centuries. Just an outstanding meal and atmosphere. Would like to say I will be back but I only get to Heidelberg so often and I am eating my way through town.

Darling place that serves delicious homemade country style German cuisine. The owner (Maria) is delightful and really takes care of her customers. It's obvious that most patrons in the restaurant were locals and to me that's a good sign. The German menus are handwritten and charming but don't worry, they have menus in English too. Make sure to bring your appetite for the portions are huge.

Schnitzel, German salad and duck fat fried potatoes (it's dark in the restaurant).

One of my most memorable meals in all of Germany, and one we continue to talk about almost monthly! The atmosphere here is so authentically German that I felt like I'd stepped into the Snow White ride at Disneyland. It's warm, homey, and looks a lot like what I imagine a German grandma's house would look like inside. Wooded chairs and tables added to the charming atmosphere. This is Germany, folks, so don't ask for the English menu! I always travel with a German translation phrasebook with a good foodie section so I can decipher any terms I don't know. Sometimes it's fun just to take a chance and randomly pick something to order, not knowing what you're going to get (I try to do this at least twice on every trip to a foreign country; it's fun). Take a look at the handwritten menu posted out front to see what's on offer for the evening. Handwritten menus are a great sign (RUN as fast as you can from any place with pre-printed plastic menus printed in English or a dozen different languages). I was intrigued by the local German salads and the schnitzel, so I ordered that. The weird side salads were a real culinary learning experience (lettuce with beans, corn and a boiled egg). The schnitzel was good but the real standout were the sliced potatoes that had been -- wait for it -- fried in duck fat. Mmmmm....duck fat. I could've eaten 200 pounds of those things. This is a great place to eat in Heidelberg. While it's slightly off the main drag, it was oddly not packed with tourists at our late night dinner time, enabling us to get a relatively authentic dining experience.

Excellent food. Portions are big. We ordered on potato soup with sausage (divine), german sausages with fried potatoes and salad. Beautiful indoor decor with old german charm. Maria (the owner) was very friendly.

Excellent food. The potatoes are the best.

This is an amazing restraint. The food is great. The people are so friendly and the portions are great. The price is perfect.

Very friendly service. The smile says it all!

Many family and small group experiences here at Wirtshaus zum Spreisel, but we had a large event (20 men for a Dads Night Out) and it was SUPER! I booked a month in advance and requested outdoor seating and a TV for viewing the Euro 2016. They obliged. Even though the restaurant was packed the service nor the food suffered. It was equally as incredible as it always is. So now I can vouch for the restaurant not only for quaint, family dining, but also to host an event for you.

The stuffed cabbage in broth was super hot with a tangy but not too tangy broth that was delicious.

It was fantastic. I only ordered a .11l as I didn't want to be carried to the train. I'd eaten a large lunch earlier, so just got the buttered pretzel. It was tasty. My uncle ordered a vegetarian Vetter's Devil and liked it. He got the larger of the 33 and the server said, "don't tell her, but I like you better." Ha! I'll definitely bring friends and family here again.

I ordered the pork shank, since it's a traditional dish I really wanted to try. Unfortunately, mine turned out quite dry, and a few locals in the group confirmed that it can be hit-or-miss. That said, the rest of the experience more than made up for it. The service was good and the staff were great, managing our big group smoothly and keeping things friendly. The real highlight was the beer--absolutely delicious, rich, and exactly what you'd hope for from a Brauhaus. Overall, while the pork shank wasn't my favorite, the combination of great staff, lively atmosphere, and excellent beer makes Vetter's a spot I'd recommend, especially if you're in Heidelberg with friends or colleagues.

Walking in felt like stepping back in time. I doubt much has changed about this place in decades, and that's entirely a compliment. We were seated near a window and the ambiance was everything you'd want, cozy, warm, and genuinely inviting. I loved the feel of it. Our server was very kind. Her English was limited, but she was gracious and patient as I attempted to speak German, and was generous enough to tell me I did well. It added to the charm of the whole experience. Now, the food. The potatoes that came with the schnitzel were the best German potatoes I've ever had. The schnitzel itself was delicious, exactly what you'd hope for. The cheese spaetzle was a highlight as well, rich and satisfying. Plan on sharing it. The one miss was the pizza my sister-in-law ordered, which was fine but felt out of place. Stick to the German classics and you won't be disappointed. Would love to return if I ever make it back to Heidelberg.

We had apple strudel for dessert, which was also really good. We were staying at the hotel, so just had to go upstairs after dinner. For the hotel - the only difficulty was the check in. We weren't sure where to go to check in. So we ended up asking the wait staff. We walked through the restaurant with our luggage to the the check in desk. Our room was comfortable and homey. The door required an old fashioned key to open. You can't beat the location being right by the old bridge.
