If you are ever passing through the town of Goldfield on the way to Tonopah via the 95, take some time out to check this place out. You will be amazed at how some people unfortunately died.
The original cemetery was in the middle of town. As they built the once luxurious Goldfield Hotel right next to it, the residents of Goldfield did not want visitors stepping off the train only to walk across the cemetery to get to their hotel. So it was relocated to the outskirts of town about a mile away in 1908 as soon as the hotel construction was finished.
As I mentioned earlier, if you take your time and skim over some of the grave site markings, you will be astonished as to how some of these unfortunate souls perished. People here have died from murder, accidental gun shots, stabbings, accidents stemming from mine disasters, and various diseases like diptheria, pneumonia, and tuberculosis. The most famous one has to be the "Unknown man who died from eating library paste". I know I couldnt believe it either that this old town had a library back in the day. Lol. But seriously folks, I dont think you will ever see any other grave stone with the cause of death from that.
In closing, as with any other cemetery please treat it as sacred property and have full respect for those that are resting here.
