Today, he's one of the fittest people I know who works out a couple of hours a day and practices Jiu Jitsu. He competes locally, wins medals, and has more plans of competing abroad. We're all very proud of him and many people admire his discipline. I'm not one who religiously goes to the gym because I like to change up my workouts and try different things. Whenever I would train at the gym, I would always try to find new workouts and try to improve my conditioning and strength. When my brother challenged me to try his gym work outs, I met his strength and conditioning coach Jay and I took on his program. In just a matter of a few months, I switched to clean eating and training with him. The results were amazing and I found myself sleeping better, up early in the morning and looking forward to the new challenge Coach Jay had for me. My body became stronger and my old injuries that were limiting my physical activities went away. I know many people find it hard and challenging to try a new routine because I was one of those people. However, I believe its a matter of finding the right coach or program that will target your specific needs and help you reach your goals. RX is one of the simplest yet most effective places you can commit to and I strongly advise those looking for any form of programs such as the following that RX offers: Clinical and corrective exercise, Athletic Performance Enhancement/Strength And Conditioning, Body Conposition Training (Fat Loss/Weight Gain), Martial Arts Strength and Conditioning, Fitness for Older Adults, Youth Strength and Conditioning. All their workouts and programs are custom designed and prescribed to your own limitations and what you want to achieve. This I think is the best way to help your body find the right balance and improve your overall condition!

Ang number one criteria ko: may air-con! Hahaha! Hindi pala ako willing magpawis, bakit pa ako nagtangkang mag-workout kaya ano? After reading some reviews, nagpa-member na ako at Gold's Gym in Libis! Medyo mahal talaga yung Membership Fee sa Gold's Gym pero makukuha mo naman kung ano yung binayaran mo. It's worth it! Hahaha). For first-timers, I suggest na kumuha kayo ng trainers. Siya yung last trainer ko and hindi lang basta "trainer" ha, pwede mo rin siyang machicka as your new friend! Okay na okay rin si Benj (my mom's personal trainer) SOSYAL SA "MOM'S" TEH! Solved sa amenities, maraming machines at magaling na trainers! Stronger with Gold's talaga! PUSH

Been happy with my experience with the chain in general and have been working out in the BGC branch. That branch has been closed for some time though and my membership allowed me to go to another branch - this Acropolis one. The service and available amenities still remain good. They even now have a touch therapy area and, since I usually go at off peak hours, it had my pick of equipment. I was surprised though at the maintenance. It's gotten a little shabbier from my visit last year. Wish they could renovate or something. And wish the BGC branch opens soon.

Signed up for the circuit training session and loved how it keeps everything moving--no time to get bored with those quick 30-second switches between stations. The variety is insane: one minute you're doing kettlebell swings, next it's TRX rows, then some bodyweight stuff that actually challenges you. The trainers were super encouraging without being pushy, and the vibe in the group classes is so motivating--everyone's just there grinding together. Finished with a quick Body Balance class to stretch and cool down, and I left feeling energized instead of wiped out. This place really makes fitness fun again. 5 stars, no question--I'll be back regularly now!

I was first introduced to 360 Fitness Club about four years ago when I decided I wanted to lose weight. The journey to slimmer me wasn't easy but being at 360 made it seem less like work because the workout were actually fun. Their circuits change every quarter so I don't get bored doing the same things over and over again. Plus, group classes like suspension training, kettle bell, Body Jam, yoga, and even Zumba make going to the gym a lot less taxing. And who doesn't love options when it comes to their workouts? If you're like me, and want to take your workout a notch higher, I suggest you avail of their personal training service. Depending on your fitness goal (weight loss, toning, etc.), they have a fine number of men and women to help you out. I have my trainer to thank because these days I can lift weights I never thought I could and even climb mountains!

If you're a gym body that does not care for the frou frou of some of the more mainstream gyms, such as offering teas or coffee, sauna or steam bath, and all the other things that have no relation to fitness whatsoever, then you should check out this gym. Anytime Fitness is an all-day-all-night fitness gym concept that entered the Philippines in 2014. Their philosophy is that access to gyms should be available to all, especially those that end work at unusual times of the day. They also believe that one should not have any excuse for not going to the gym. So Anytime Fitness guarantees that they are open to serve you when you want to go to the gym. Out of the 3 branches of Anytime Fitness, the New Manila branch, in my opinion, is the most conducive for working out. The arrangement of the weight lifting equipment are well thought of. The white walls mixed with their trademark purple makes you feel engaged in training. Their cardiovascular equipment are very high-tech, too. You can surf the Web or plug in your favorite device while you're on the treadmill. Ain't that neat? Take away: a perfect gym for those that actually intend to work out when they go the gym

Honestly, I'm really not athletic nor physical activity…read more Back in high school and college, Physical Education was my least favorite subject (practically failed the subject). BUT, when I started working, I started to feel the "heaviness" of my over-eating and over-drinking lifestyle. So, I guess it was a wake up call to lose weight and get fit! I tried out the gym (which BORED me!), spinning classes and even those calorie-count diets. None of these kept my interest. Then, a friend invited me to try out Boxing. During that time, PacMan was at the peak of his career. So, everyone was boxing for fitness or trying to be amateur boxers. For me, I thought it would be cool to wear wraps and just punch the heavy bags. :) My very first day at the gym was quite memorable. In a room full of guys, I was just 1 of 3 girls. Each student was assigned a personal trainer; I got Coach Steve. It was pretty easy at first: warm up, stretching, putting on the wraps. Then, he taught me the basic footwork + stance. When he saw I was comfy, we started with the punches. This went on for about 3 minutes (Round 1). Before Round 2 started, Coach Steve told me, "Ma'am, ang hina ng suntok mo. Ilabas mo galit mo! (Ma'am, you're punch is weak. Unleash your stress/anger!)". That surprised me! So, I DID! I just let it ALL out! He kept at it until we reached a total of 6 Rounds with the mits, 3 Rounds with the heavy bag, 3 Rounds with the hanging ball + an Ab Workout. I was sooo TIRED but happy that I even finished ALL of that on my very first day! After that, I was hooked. It's been 3 years and Coach Steve is still my trainer! Enjoying something is probably the number one reason why you'll stick to any routine and get better at it too. For me, boxing is FUN! Boxing is my workout and stress-reliever. Try it for yourself! Who knows, boxing could be that awesome exercise you've always wanted. :D P.S. - the reason I'm giving this a 4-Star is because the gym isn't a high-end gym. It's more like a boxer's stable. So, don't expect it to be clean and air-conditioned. The grunginess adds to the charm.

I've always been a fan of fighting! Even when I was a kid, I would spend summers learning Japanese Martial Arts like Aikido or Judo. Too bad boxing wasn't so big back then! Fast forward to decades later - here I am, looking for alternative sports to augment my boring gym routine. I lucked upon a friend who does boxing. He invited me to his gym which happened to be near my office so I decided, why the heck not? It was love at first sight! There are a lot of things I love about boxing: the science behind it, the discipline, the practicality. And yes of course, the workout! Boxing is a great form of exercise! It combines both aerobic and anaerobic workouts. Plus, it's very much scalable to your fitness level. Oh, and did I mention that hitting stuff is a great way to relieve stress? Onto the gym itself: Elorde Ortigas is very spacious. One of the biggest boxing gyms I've been to! Their prices are very reasonable specially since all training sessions are one-on-one. Since it's an Elorde gym, you know that you're getting the best professional training - all of their trainers are pro fighters or pro coaches (one of the perks of being in the Philippines). My one negative about this place are the showers. There's only one shower stall and it's not exactly the cleanest. So, shower at home if you have the option to! Will we be coming back? Yes, at least 3 times a week!

After work, I just walk to the court. I don't need to bring my car, even if there are ample street parking slots in front of the building. The Zone has a total of fifteen standard badminton courts. Six of which have wood flooring, while nine are equipped with Taraflex material. There's also a basketball court complete with digital scoring system. The shower and comfort rooms are air-conditioned and personal lockers are also available. A food stall in the receiving area makes sure that players don't have to worry about drinks and food. If you forget to bring accessories, there's even a small store that offers sports socks, apparel, and other badminton stuff. Recently, The Zone improved its security by placing surveillance cameras in strategic places inside and outside the building. With this, fees and court rentals have slightly increased. However, some courts are damaged and they just patched the damages instead of replacing them. White stuff coming from the ceiling also fall down which I assume are bird feathers. They did not even bother to fix the damaged lights. Most of the staff are either lazy or rude. I have only come across two staff members who are nice so far (mostly women). Half of the time that we go there, they do not automatically turn on the exhaust on each court. We either have to turn it on ourselves or go back to the counter to ask them to turn it on, which, of course, consumes the time that we paid. Rudest of all is the guy receptionist who I think is on his late 20s or 30s. He once switched the light off of our court when we just started playing. When approached, not even one apology was heard from that guy or from any of the staff present. This guy also tends to answer sarcastically. They also have a very inconsistent rescheduling policy. Or so said this guy. We have asked to reschedule more than once before this incident because of an unexpected conflict on our schedule. We thought that that would be better instead of cancelling. All of the receptionists that we talked to have always been happy to accommodate this. However, on one eventful day, same receptionist guy said that they don't allow rescheduling even if it is on the same time period that we have scheduled and that it should be done at least 2 days before our supposed schedule. That is the first time that we have heard of that policy although guy insists that that is always how things go. Weird how that is not how it always was for us and only happened when he was the one we're talking to. When asked about this rescheduling fiasco and the unwarranted-turning-off-of-the-court-lights-incident, this receptionist guy even taunted that we should go there so we can discuss it in person. AGAIN, NO APOLOGY WAS HEARD. They suck at complaint resolution. Lastly, expect that when your schedule is near their closing time, they will turn off your court light without any warning 1-2 minutes before the supposed end of your playing time.

My first stop, Fitness First. I was only supposed to ask how much a daily use of the gym was, but Chris offered to give me a tour of the entire gym, explaining the facilities and showing me where I could get coffee. Classes are held at a certain schedule every week. These include gentle flow yoga, advanced flow yoga, cycling, hip hop, RPM, Zumba, and many others. What I clearly remember is that they have this one room where you can watch movies while exercising. And if you're alone in the room, you get to choose whatever movie you want. They were playing How to Train Your Dragon 2 while I was there. Wow. Watching movies and working out? Talk about shooting two birds with one stone. When can I start? Then Chris sat down with me and discussed prices. Okay, this is the part where I kind of zoned out. A one-time use of the gym's facilities costs P500, around P3,295 for a 5-month membership, and that's without even considering the start-up and admin fees. For this reason, I wouldn't apply for a membership just yet. If you're like me, curious about getting fit but reluctant to shell out too much cash on the get-go, I suggest trying this place out first to see if it meets and your needs and standards before signing up for a membership.

But seriously, I did sign up because I wanted to "look" better. I'm a big-boned girl so finding better fitting clothes became a challenge for me. I didn't want to be stick thin and I wasn't very big either. I just really wanted to boost my self-confidence and being physically fit was one of my own personal goals to achieve that. During my 1-year Fitness First stint, I would often visit their Eastwood branch. It was the closest where I lived plus I found that particular gym better than the others I've gotten to see and work out in. It was very spacious and if I went in early in the morning, I'd have the gym mostly to myself. Fitness First Eastwood has a pretty accommodating staff. They would answer my queries and they were also very reliable in terms of extending help when I needed it. They were also very encouraging and that definitely helped me in my journey to becoming more fit. The equipment of Fitness First is no doubt top notch. Everything you need to run, lose weight, get muscled up and achieve fitness, they have it! I particularly loved their theatre room where it housed several cardio machines like the elliptical and the treadmill. Gym goers could actually request for a certain movie, if you wanted! Super cool right? I also loved the classes here in Fitness First Eastwood. I got to attend a cycling class (which whipped my ass) and a Body Jam class, which is kind of like their Zumba classes. Too bad I wasn't able to try their yoga, though. I'm sure I would have loved it too. Fitness First Eastwood has definitely raised my standards in terms of gyms here in the Metro. For me, it's the best I've tried. I will be back when my schedule finally permits it - and when I have enough money to spare. Hahaha.
