Royal New Kent Golf Club - Number 8. Deceptively hard.

True, their habits are more refined than an amateur, but it sure would be fun to watch. Greens are glass tops. Fairways are perfect, and you better find them, or it is a lost ball, EVERY time. Some of the best par 3's in the country. The finishing hole is a par 4 at 486 yards, with a tee shot over water and with a carry needed of 230 yards, your second is over water to a narrow peninsula green, hazards on 3 sides. Mike Strantz punches you in the mouth on every hole. It is glorious. This course demands you be good right from the start. This is a must play.

Beautiful looking course but referring to it as challenging is quite an understatement…read more Unless you are a very good golfer, you might want to consider another course. There are many blind shots and you will lose golf balls if you are not familiar with the layout. Unfortunately it had rained for the prior five days so the course was very wet and it was cart path only. The cart paths were far away from the fairways and greens so we had to walk a lot to play our shots. In other words, don't bother using a cart if it's cart path only. Unfortunately tee boxes , fairways and greens had damage from this past winter and some were in rough shape. Don't think I'll be back

Wow!!!! What a fantastic course for a great price! Really wish we had more courses like this in…read morethe VB area as it took game play to a whole different level. Playing LONG, it challenges any level of golfer for sure! The course was in great shape with really nice greens, especially in January. The view was gorgeous and so peaceful! Now I am not the greatest golfer but with my experience and 15 handicap, I would definitely say you need to at least be able to make solid contact with the ball as the distance could be challenging to reach in par. If you are new, playing from anything beyond the whites should really be considered for better ball strikers because it truly is long and challenging and suited for the lower handicap or scratch players. Slow play will come into play if trying to play out of your element. It is quite forgiving but if you get into the woods, it is difficult to find the ball under the leaves which slows it even more. Definitely not a walking course and loads of hills/undulations all over the place. It is a very fun/challenging course and was worth the hour and 10 minute drive. I will definitely consider making my way at least once a year to experience the courses in the Williamsburg to Richmond area. Definitely a different ball game versus where I live.

The course has an interesting layout - that was a bit easier the second day once we gained some local knowledge. Don and his staff were wonderful to work with- very accommodating with tee times and post-round socializing. Also the pro shop has a wide selection of women's golf garb and gifts - a pleasant surprise. I highly recommend Golden Eagle for an afternoon or weekend of great golf and service.

Fairways and greens are in good shape. Bunkers no so much. I am a beginner golfer so no complains there. I hate hitting off bunkers anyways. Some of the holes can be pretty hard for high handicappers. Narrow fairways and lots of tees. You have to keep em straight. Some of the holes are so beautiful. Especially hole 9 and hole 18. They have some water hazard as well. They also have a driving range. I think they can do better by reducing tee time prices to attract more customers. Piankatank is a better course for the same price. By lowering price they may get more people to play. That's the only reason I am giving them 4 stars. Food is great here. They have a decent restroom with shower.

    Bay Creek - Nature preserve

It is renowned for it's fishing and oysters as well as now, it's ice cream and various other tourist-friendly pursuits. It exists in harmony with nearby Bay Creek, an exclusive golf-centric private community which has brought in plenty of transplants from around the state and various other states. The grounds of this community are stunning and immaculately maintained. It boasts several pools, a large fitness and members club, tennis and pickle-ball courts and many planned improvements as the community continues to grow. Additionally, there is, of course the famous 27-holes of golf with views of the Chesapeake Bay and water while you're on the range. It can't be beat. It's probably half-half at present with full-time and then those with second and rental properties here which they rent out throughout the year to visitors. It's in the midst of a huge boom for building and development as COVID has brought in plenty of people who can now telework from this area. A few years ago 9 of the holes were removed to create a large nature preserve with hiking and walking and biking trails along the protected marsh land. A beautiful addition to this neighborhood. If you have a chance to tour or play golf in this gorgeous resort - do so! It's something you won't want to miss.

New management promised us new facilities, new club, new indoor pool, improved golf course, better amenities, and the list goes on. What a huge LIE! Buyer Beware!!!!!!! The golf course has gone down horribly which is hard to understand as they have so many dues coming in now. The beach is eroding away quickly. Half of the back 9 that we thought was a nature conservation preserve is actually future development. The other half could become a mitigation bank. The developer maybe called Preserve Communities, but thousands of trees are being slaughtered to clear for new duplexes. The land is being raped for the profit of the developers and no one cares about the home owners once they have bought their lot. The last straw is a controlled burn that is scheduled for this week. The property manager sent out a flyer on surviving wildfires that recommends masking and air purifiers to survive the controlled burn. So there you have it. Far from perfect nature we are all about surviving controlled burns.
