Saying that, I think these forts were very interesting to visit. You have to drive from fort to fort. There are little areas to pull over and read some information about what happened there. About half were built but confederate soldiers and the others built union soldiers. At Fort Harrison which is in the middle there is a house to get information. Unfortunately when we went it was closed. The sign on the door said closed for the season. My nephew was doing a report for school about the war. So he was giving us some information as well as learning something new. There are a few cannons at some forts. There is a bathroom at Fort Harrison. But it was closed when we went. The last fort is on the river. You can do a good amount of walking at 2 of the forts. So bring some comfy shoes.

With locker room up stairs, dining room with full services and a men's only room for dining and cigars. No hats allowed inside. The course is in pristine condition. Not a single hole is the same. Not a bad lie on the course with generous size greens but very fast that roll true. A "must play" course if you know a member or someone that can get you on. If you're a golf enthusiast, seek this course out.

Grace Street breaks here because of the hill and there is an unmarked path that will bring you up to the elevation for the view. There are some benches here and some shade. The marker reads, "Richmond is one of the most historic cities in the nation. Captain John Smith was among the first Europeans to visit in 1607, and William Byrd II, the founder of Richmond laid out the original street pattern. "This photograph, taken in 1865 shows Shockoe Valley as it appeared from the Taylor's Hill Park overlook. Note in the distance upon the hill, Thomas Jefferson's majestically designed Virginia State Capitol Building. It houses the oldest legislative body in the United States, the Virginia General Assembly. "The Monumental Church, on Broad Street, is barely visible on the edge of the picture on the right. Every year, around Halloween, spirits invade the bodies of young adults (many studious types from…read moreVCU oddly) and they parade through Cary Street in all their gory zombie glory, much to the amusement of shoppers and restaurant patrons in the area. Sound too wacky to be true? I have to admit, it is pretty trippy. For just a few moments, on that day, as you are standing on the street, you literally feel like you are in a scene from a horror movie. The participants really get into this stuff, and go all out on their costumes and makeup... fake heads on poles, blood and guts dripping from ripped clothing, legs dragging on the ground as zombies limp along. So yeah, this is definitely worth seeing every year. Even after the first year it's worth making an effort to attend- it's priceless to watch innocent bystanders who have never heard of it! And, if you are really adventurous, there is nothing to stop you from joining in on the fun and walking as a zombie yourself!

This park is made to host events. Established in 1851, it has the distinction of being the city's…read moreoldest park. It is a wide open park with a lot of green space. It is located across from the Altria Theater, near the Virginia Commonwealth campus. There is metered street parking and a parking garage available within a reasonable walking distance to and from the park. The park spans about 7 and a half acres and It is named after James Monroe, the 5th President of the United States. The park features some nice paved paths that are pretty wide and popular among joggers/walkers and people walking their dogs. You will find a nice cast iron fountain here at this park and some tables with umbrellas to sit at. Interestingly enough, the park has free wifi, making it a popular spot for VCU student to hang out at. The park has hosted many rallies and events. There was a bronze statue of Williams Carter Wickham, a plantation owner, Confederate general and industrialist, who unapologetically accrued power and wealth through the exploitation of enslaved people. In the wake of the George Floyd protest, protesters tore the statue down. The park was well maintained and also well lit at night, even though it closes at sunset. I did still see people hanging out their late into the evening anyway though. This park is more of a hangout spot than anything. Walker/joggers can also find some value in this park. The park also has a lot to offer a person hosting an event. Some events hosted here include the Iron Blossom Music Festival, Mobile Soul Sunday, Justice for Tyre Nichols protest, Virginia Prison Justice Rally, and grocery/meal give aways. This is definitely a chill spot and worth checking out if you are looking to just kick back and relax. Fun Fact: The park was home to the Richmond's first baseball games.

This is one of the nicest semi private courses in a 20 miles radius of downtown Richmond. Tee boxes are great, stripped fairways, what seems to be anti divot greens which have been pristine at my last two outings. The course has some great elevation change through out it. Which makes it challenging, but it's not that bad. Pro shop is super nice, and the service has always been excellent. Today they had a range officer cruising the course making sure pace of play was good. Nice fellow named Henry. Range officer wasn't there the first time I played, but didn't matter. Drink cart came around at least 4 times. There wasn't a drink cart making the rounds last time we went though. There's a grass range, a huge putting green, and a chipping green all in the same area. Their carts are a little slow. That's my only single complaint, but I don't blame them. There's some steep hills around the course and I could see how a fast cart might cause problems. Definitely returning customer.
