If I could give 0 stars I would. Unfortunately the negative reviews are true. And the positive reviews, I recognize some of them as Gonella's vendors that do work for them. Bob and Raquel are obviously trying to help them boost their reputation because it is so horrible. My experience with Gonella has been horrible from the start about 8 years ago. Kathy was the rental manager then. At the time, I had rented a home and had put in a work order for a door. Gonella sent their carpet cleaning vendor Bob to do the work order. He entered my garage and immediately made some comment about having a nice set up. I wasn't sure what he was talking about. 2 days later Gonella sent over one of their office staff to give us a paper stating we needed to stop growing and manufacturing marijuana. Like what?! So I was fuming at that point, headed straight to Gonella and asked them, why they had served us that notification. Come to find out, their carpet cleaning vendor that somehow was sent to fix a door, had seen my tortoise under a heat lamp with alfalfa in his enclosure as well as my desk area in the garage I had enclosed with curtains to protect from dust, and he made the claim we were manufacturing marijuana. So I was extremely upset. Staff guided me into the back to try to quiet me which only made me more angry. My father came down to help sort this out. He is retired Merced PD and was just as shocked as I was with these allegations. Eventually, the rental manager's boss came in and agreed that this whole situation had been mishandled. If it was believed I was really growing drugs, the police should have been called and they could have seen right away that was so far from the truth. I did receive an apology from Kathy and it was promised that Gonella would never send Bob to my home again. A monkey with a wrench and nail gun is more capable of doing work orders than that guy. I have reason to believe he was racist but that's another story. So I continued to rent from Gonella for several years due to the fact the home I rented was 1 minute away from work. Every year they'd do their yearly inspection of checking smoke alarms and ensuring the water heater was strapped down. But we all know it's the yearly nosey invasion of privacy inspection. I had actually replaced and added smoke sectors throughout the house as I worked for a national disaster services agency at the time and had seen too many houses lost to fires. But an inspection once a year with Gonella , annoying, but I'm a good renter so I just dealt with it. The yard was taken care of by a gardening service that was more than questionable. One new guy made the comment to my husband that he had just got out of jail and got a job with them when my husband commented that he hadn't seen him before. And I'm supposed to leave my gate unlocked so they can come do the yard whenever, umm no. The gardeners also don't abide by city watering rules and tried to force me to water every day by setting the sprinklers to every day. Now I have recently moved out, no longer a renter at Gonella's mercy. Even though I had cleaned, replaced blinds, replaced toilet seats, replaced stove drip pans and left the property in better condition than it was when it was rented to me, they wanted to keep my entire deposit. Luckily the home owner is more level headed and not a crook so he told them to give it back to me. Illianna, Alisha, Monica and others are employees that continue to carry on the poor customer service and rental company history with Gonella. Gina and previous Asst manager Tina may be the only half way decent people to have worked there. I have to question that the owner of Gonella must be the same if this type of management has been allowed to continue for years. Renters, beware. They will mistreat you, violate your privacy and try to keep your deposit when you leave, and that's even when you are a good tenant and take care of the home. Don't rent from them, a cardboard box would be a better option. Owners, do yourself a favor and just be your own rental manager. Worst company to deal with!! Seriously the worst They deserve no stars at all. I called for a house and was told to apply and pay $80. Paid the application fees, then called them back, was told that we were approved and on top of the list. I was told that someone will give me a call within two day, never received a call so I called back to follow up and was told that we were second on the list now. I tried arguing but of course they are CARELESS. I was told that they'll let me know if the other person decides not to take the house within 24-48 hours. Again, never received a call. Extremely poor management of the property. When I signed the contract with them; I specifically said I would like to have visibility for tenant selection and expenses. That only hold for a year. After that, thousands were sucked out without giving details of the work. They just wanted the check, until then, they would stall on works. I eventually drove down to take a look; my then new home was totally messed up. I wished they sent me the picture of before the work. What ever vendor they used, it seems very unprofessional as well so I really wonder if they're getting a cut out of it. Don't believe their words too. The personal service given me by Tina and the staff at Gonella has been outstanding, and it has allowed me to be away from the property for months on end and not worry about it. It is impossible to control every aspect of rentals when vendors and contractors are involved. What I can honestly say is the team I have helping me at Gonella Property Management are knowledgeable, professional, and care about their clients, renters and landlords. They take care of all aspects of the rental process and manages repairs. They have a 24-hour hotline to call for emergencies, a very efficient system for rents and expenses, and the vendors they have sent to my place are knowledgeable, professional and quick. It's tough to manage properties and they do a really good job at it. I am very happy with my team at Gonella. They have taken care of some very difficult situations for me and didn't ask for any compensation at all for it. They helped a tenant with mental illness find the care and help they needed while they couldn't pay their own rent. They took care of the person for months with the care and gentleness needed in a sensitive situation like this. They ​received ZERO compensation for their care and efforts. This is the care and respect you can expect from the team at Gonella. I rented from Gonella for three years. Their customer service was always helpful and they were fast to follow through with any work orders I placed. If I had any questions they answered them politely; and if they didn't know someone almost always called me back. The only real problem I encountered with them was during move out. They nickeled and dimed me for EVERYTHING, even things that were there when I moved in (I have pictures). I put in a work order a couple weeks before I moved out and they refused to fix it because it was too close to my move out date. They told me they would just assess it during the inspection, meaning even though I attempted to fix it, I was still going to be charged for it afterwards. This is THE worst property management company EVER!!!! Do NOT rent from them!!!! I was a perfect tenant for four years, and when I vacated the property.....on November 9th, 2021......I have yet to see any of my $1275 deposit return. Every excuse in the book to not return monies. Home left in perfect condition.....? Normal wear and tear after four years. They are a step away from "slum" lord's. The staff is unfriendly, and will ignore your requests until they can't any more. Be VERY careful if you choose to rent from them. Don't be surprised if you get screwed over.......I believe that's what is keeping them afloat. Completely agree with the first reviewer. I am a property owner and had Gonella rent out my single family home. I received a call from the office in July from one of the employees. She told me the tenants complained about a leak in the roof. I asked her out of curiosity how that was discovered in July. She said that the tenants said they had complained at the beginning of the year, but she had only been there two months so she didn't know anything about it. Gonella repeatedly lied about this after the fact. They were notified of a problem and did nothing. They then gave me an exorbitant repair quote. They asked if I would like them to get me a second opinion and of course I said absolutely. I did not hear anything from them until OCTOBER. It took over two months to get a second quote? They then informed me that I better act quickly, but they refused to acknowledge their own negligence in the matter. Since we could not reach an immediate agreement, they unilaterally dropped me as a client in less than two weeks, BUT KEPT ALL MY MONEY. They still have it. These guys lie. Find someone else, but good luck doing that in Merced. I would find another community altogether if you are purchasing property. read more

If I could put no stars I would. This company from the start was very rude and unprofessional. The house wasn't cleaned nor were the carpets. I was told when my AC went out that due to living in California it was considered a luxury. I work in property management myself and I would never tell any of my tenants that, I would try my best to get the AC fixed ASAP or get them a portable AC unit. GONELLA property management has always been very professional managing my properties recently I found that I had a gutter problem on one of my homes and asked them to send someone to replace the gutters they were done in a reasonable amount of time the price was right and they look amazing. I really had no complaints until I moved out. They always were polite; they would take their time to fix things, but they would eventually fix them. I rented an upscale house from them that I kept immaculate. I always paid my rent well in advance. During pre-inspection before I moved out I was told that it was "the cleanest house ever". Yet they charged me for a late payment even though I had only paid extra to extend my lease due to unforeseen circumstances. I called and they admitted the error. Since I did not get the check during the next two weeks I called back and was told I would receive the check during the week that just passed. I still have not received the check for the "error", more than six weeks after I moved out. The property owner is willing to send me a check himself. So it is not the owner's fault but Gonella's. read more

We are reasonable and know we did not leave the place the same as the first day we moved in, but they are trying to get us to pay for normal wear and tear repairs. My wife and I rented a house through Gonella Property Management for two years. The process of actually renting the house was a huge pain. I think the whole property management business model of making someone pay an application fee before they even look at a property stinks!!! They all do it, at least everyone did when we looked to rent, so I am trying not to hold it against Gonella too much. I also understand that property management companies have to deal with a lot of challenging individuals. Once we finally jumped through all of the hoops things went pretty good. Three times we needed something repaired (garbage disposal, A/C, and hot water heater) and they were always very responsive and the repairs were done quickly. When we got ready to move it it took a little work to get them to schedule the pre-move out inspection, but it was well worth it. In the end I believe the house we moved out of was actually in better condition than we moved in. So they had just a few things for us to address before the final move out and we made sure everything was taken care. Today the move out refund check came and we got our full deposit back. read more

At first everything appeared to be going well and I didn't believe that people were rating this agency so low. However, once we moved out they let their true colors show. STUDENTS BEWARE! I have to seriously can say we choose the perfect company to rent from, I've come across several issues nothing to major! Because our house is In good condition but we've had minor issues and every time I've Called Lea always ALWAYS makes sure we get taken care of, if literally not that day within the week! Ive rented from different locations and this company by far has been beyond great! Always making sure by following up to ask if everything has been taken care of or if their is anything else they can help us with!!! Today I didn't feel our AC unit is working to its full potential so I made one phone call at 5:30pm and it's now 7:30pm and I personally just received a call from Andre who is going to come out and check our unit! I have been renting from gonella for 9 years and back when I first started dealing with them they were awesome, however now I am miserable and feel stuck. I have done all repairs myself on the home except for when the home flooded twice from the horrible sewer lines. I now get harraased by them with inspections and when they finally came in to put in state required monoxide detectors just recently even though the law passed a while ago they put them in the wrong place and am told that even though I have illness if I don't let them do the inspection they will just come in. Yearly inspections fine but all the time is just ridiculous. I love the home and I have put so much into it but I now am currently looking to move due to gonella. read more
