I stayed across the street at Wombats and nothing beats a bowl of PHO after a night of drinking and dancing! I got the chicken pho and my friend had the beef pho. The soup was so tasty, hot, and the noodles are the flat thick kinds so not the kinds I'm used to in LA. Nonetheless, it was still so good! Their Vietnamese coffee was REALLY strong and the pot of Jasmine tea we had was a pretty big size compared to what I was used to getting in Germany. I didn't have a chance to try the other Vietnamese places in Berlin but their pho definitely hit the spot. read more

The food was nice however as soon as we arrived they made us put our water bottle under the table and said we have to order drinks to get free tap water! We ordered drinks and asked for tap water as well seeing as it's 37degrees and the restaurant has no aircon. The glass of water was tiny so we asked for more tap water and they said we aren't allowed anymore tap water unless we want to pay!!! We Americans are simple people. We strongly believe in basic rights for everyone, including the right to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. And the right to drink a glass of water with our food. Unfortunately, this prison camp doesn't follow the same principles. I actually got kicked out... FOR DRINKING WATER. The conversation went as follows: Prison Guard: "Uhh... excuse me. Sir. Please don't drink your water bottle in restaurant." Me: "Okay, in that case I'll take a glass of tap water please." PG: "You can buy water." * Me: "No, I'm okay, I'd rather just drink my tap water then." PG: "No." Me: "So the only way I could drink anything in here is at $2 for .2 liters of tap water? Even though I just ordered food?" PG: "Yes." Me: "Did anyone tell you the war is over?" *at $2 for a glass container the size of a thimble, probably filled with tap water anyway Okay, so I didn't actually say the last part, but I was thinking it. I'm going to reminisce about this experience starting every story with "back when I was in 'Nam." On the plus side, this wasn't that bad because their service was godawful overall. I'd eaten here 3 times before (back when they still allowed water) and each time I'd end up standing up and searching the restaurant for my waiter after 15 minutes of not seeing them. I wasn't trying to be rude, I was just honestly concerned they'd gotten lost or fallen down somewhere. It was like a meal / search party expedition. But on the actual plus side, their food is delicious. The wonton soup was made with fresh vegetables and broth, the spring rolls are great, the crispy duck with curry sauce is as good as I've had anywhere, and their pho is perfect for the price. So I can't disregard it entirely, it is a great meal directly across from the wombats. I actually liked it better than that Monsieur Vuong place down the street which always has a line wrapped around the block. Summary: If you want good Vietnamese food and are okay being treated like a POW with your waiters occasionally running off for an hour to go browse reddit, this is the place to go. I myself will wait until the management changes here. This city is FULL of Vietnamese restaurants, there's no reason to put up with this service just because it's 10 feet closer to the hostel. **If you want good asian food without having to walk far, leave the hostel, turn right, then walk down the street a little - you'll pass a Korean Barbeque restaurant, a Ramen restaurant, and another Vietnamese place all within 2 blocks.** read more

Let me say one thing first: I go here a lot. It's not far from my place and it's my favorite little affordable Asian diner to visit. Here you will find a beautifully designed restaurant with a very affordable menu and friendly service. Inside the red walls and old wooden tables are well lit and tastefully decorated. At night you will forget you are in a budget restaurant as the candlelight plays off the Thai sculptures and flowers. The staff are all young, pretty, and kind. It can get full, especially since it's next to a recently renovated and popular hostel, but generally it isn't a problem to find a table here. I've never had to make reservations and I've never waited at all. Meals average around six euros. They are average sized, and if you are hungry it's recommended you get an appetizer, which run from two to four euros. Highly recommended are the summer rolls, which are some of the best in the city (2 rolls for 2.50, ask for rice vinegar instead of peanut sauce!) All the noodle dishes are delicious, and the soup (classic viatnamese 'pho') is very good. I've also heard the Mango Lassi is a favorite. Most people will go right ahead and recommend the wildly popular Monsieur Vuong (right down the street) to the budget-Asian minded eater, but if you don't like crowding next to tourists while the long line of people waiting to eat stare hungrily at your food, I highly recommend Good Morning Vietnam as a calm, romantic, and delicious alternative. read more

I came here for lunch today and went for one of the lunch specials and a Vietnamese Iced coffee. The main meal I had was a rice dish with Chicken/veg curry it was tasty and well presented. The meal was 5.90EUR and with the drink it came to just under 10EUR. As it was lunch time, the place was very busy but our food came very quickly. Overall, a nice place for lunch. read more

Food is just ok compared to numerous Vietnamese restaurant in Berlin. We've had better Vietnamese food for a much lower price. The service is furthermore irritating. We've ordered food and drinks, but just right after we finish the food, the bowl is taken away. That's ok. But when I finish my drink, my cup was also IMMEDIATELY taken away without asking. Just when my friend is drinking his tea, they came to ask if we want after-dinner coffee. twice in a roll !!!! Food came quickly, tons of options and friendly staff. I ordered a weekly special that had an avocado coconut curry sauce and came with chicken, but was easily substituted for tofu. Also I got a red mint berry drink that I enjoyed since it didn't have any added sugar. The whole meal was fantastic, perfect portion, the tofu was prepared perfectly and I was so thrilled to have a whole salad to get my veggie portion ontop. So many choices in Berlin when it comes to Vietnamese food! On a cold winter night I was up for a good pho and tried out this place. The interior decor is definitely not as appealing as at Monsieur Vong or @ district mot. The service is nice but nothing out of the extraordinary. The waitress didn't really make an effort to recommend anything. They do serve Vietnamese beer (saigon) and have tiger beer as well. Just one German beer on tap. We both ordered phos (there are only two options: chicken or beef). The broth is unspectacular the ingredients simple and the chicken pretty taste less. Rude servers and ridiculously protective of their water! Having just arrived in the city on a boiling hot 38 degree day we had bottles of water with us which upon entering the restaurant were told "it is not possible to have your water here", furthermore you can only be given a tiny mouthful glass size of tap water if you purchase another drink off the menu even if you're already ordering food!! Having finished our water in 1 mouthful and thirsty for more we were then told that you cannot be given more than 1 glass of free water per person...absolutely ridiculous! The food here was actually quite good and it was disappointing the poor attitude and service leaves you with a negative impression of the whole place! read more

During our visit to Berlin, we went to Good Morning Vietnam to get some pho. We were greeted by friendly waiters and though the cafe is a bit small, it's cozy with authentic asian decor. We ordered pho, which was really good. The dish was really good, and the waiter was at our table to ensure that everything was in order. We felt very welcome and the food was good. read more

Came here for a late afternoon lunch. It's a simple, no nonsense Vietnamese joint with a large menu, and you'll undoubtedly find something you'd like. Upsides. Tasty food: the shrimp nem, beef pho, and sesame tofu were all wonderfully spiced, and comforting. Was not a huge fan of the satay with mango sauce - the chicken itself was moist and well cooked but the sauce was pure puréed mango. Cute decor: lots of space, community style or intimate tables, and big windows! Downsides. They don't serve tap water: seems to irk many customers, us included. They have a pretty high minimum for cards, so if you're just paying for yourself you probably need cash. Last but not least- customer service. Our experience was that it seemed to be unaccommodating (e.g. water) and our waitress wasn't very friendly but no nightmare story here. There seems to be some inconsistency in their service, so I'd say give it a shot. Despite the lack of a warm welcome, I would still come back because the food is good at very reasonable prices. read more

i am giving 1 star not for food but for staff behavior. I was on Europe trip and stayed in berlin for few days. I went to this restaurant one day for lunch, as I walking all day I had a bottle of water with me. So when I sat down on a table a waitress came to me saying .. its not 'beautiful' to drink your own water here... well, whatever does that mean. but I was definitely not there to look more 'beautiful' than what I already am. I simply needed some food. I understand that across the Europe water is not served in restaurants but there are polite ways to say that. And I was talking in English so it was understood that I am tourist. Didn't go there again and don't recommend as well. read more

I liked this place so much, I brought an Italian friend who had never eaten Asian food in her life (potentially nothing other than Italian food, actuslly) She loved it so much she brought her Italian boyfriend to the place as soon as he flew over to visit her. I then took my German boyfriend for his first experience with Vietnamese food and he loved it as well. Reading other reviews, some readers have commented that the food is bland. This food here isn't any special. It's very standard and not really original Vietnamese food. For those who do not have any idea of good (Vietnamese) food, then it might be somehow fantastic. As a Vietnamese myself who has tasted a lot of different styles of cuisines I can assure that it's maybe worth for the atmosphere. I have eaten anything from junk food to microcuisine. I've been there three times. The 3rd time was the last time. The service is rude. The atsmosphere is nice though. It's rather packed with tourists so that the quality of the food does not need to be high. The menu is very simple and monotone. The prices are not exceptionally high, but considering the quality not that.In this area many Vietnamese restaurants have opened. Most of them are very mediocre. It's rather the atmosphere why people come and not the food. I have lived in this area since `93 so I know what I am talking about. Go for Spanish food. In Vietnam I would not even consider to go in such places like that. read more
