Decided to try something different on our last night in Berlin. Yelp pointed us to Dudu, which…read moredidn't disappoint. Outdoor seating was packed, but pretty much all the (long) tables inside were open. So if it's nice out and you want to sit outside, be prepared to wait. Since almost all the patrons were eating outside, service inside was somewhat slow. Menus were already on the tables, but it took some time to flag down a waiter and get one in English. Food came out in a timely manner, though. Before placing your order, be sure to check out specials on the chalk board! Dudu's menu mainly consisted of a mix of Vietnamese dishes and sushi. Decided to start with dumplings and the starter beef pho. Although both were good, I enjoyed the dumplings more. I liked how the dumpling wrapper wasn't too thick and that it was packed with pork. The dipping sauce went well with the dumplings and wasn't too sour or spicy. I liked how you can order a starter of the pho. It was the perfect size to get a taste of the dish, leaving room for other items on the menu. The small bowl was packed with noodles and beef shavings. The soup itself didn't have as much flavor as I would have liked it to, but it was still good. Our main meal consisted of a variety of rolls that we shared. The salmon avocado and tuna rolls were pretty good, although standard. The fish was fresh and the ratio of fish to fish was good. The crispy yellow roll, one of Dudu's special rolls, was just okay. The roll itself was deep fried and contained avocado and cucumber. Separate from the roll was diced spicy tuna that you were supposed to eat with the roll. If I knew it would came like this, I don't think I would have ordered it. I was over the actual roll pretty quickly, but really enjoyed the spicy tuna. I also tried some of C's "rice for kids", which was a small bowl of soup rice with chicken on top. He quickly ate all the chicken, but left most of the rice. Again, didn't know the rice would be rice mixed in a broth. You could tell the broth had ginger in it as the taste was pretty prominent. Not so sure this is a good idea for a kid's dish...the only kid's meal offered. Price of all the food was reasonable, although pricier than typical meals in Berlin.

The Vietnamese spring rolls were just OK. The sashimi and sushi were extremely fresh and delicious tasting. Very impressed. The rolls are generous, big portions. The chicken curry was OK. Could have used a little bit more heat. Overall really positive and enjoyable experience. Would definitely recommend and come back.

I read that it is a long wait to get in but I was able to walk right in and sit at the bar. My server was so happy and laughing she made things so comfortable. She put up with my poor Vietnamese language efforts especially since I am better in Tien Viet than in German. I ordered chicken pho and a beer. She laughed so hard when I ordered tiger beer and I'm still wondering why. Possibly because Germany is famous for good beer but I ordered the popular Asian brew. The Hanoi pho came out in seconds not minutes and the broth was amazing. I detected some lemongrass in it. There was not a pile of leaves to add to it as everything it needed to taste good was already there. The interior decoration was very nice and classy. I hope to return.

Our waitress showed us nothing but disdain from the moment we walked in the door. We asked for a minute to have our son decide what he would like to eat, which was received with a huff and rolled eyes. When we asked on of her compatriots for the bill he said he would send her by in a minute. When he asked her to get our bill she glared at him and then glared at us. All in all a mediocre disappointing experience.

For people with little patience - here my review: Great food served by really nice people for a slightly above average price which is really fair compared to the full experience. For those who have the endurance for a few more words, here a few insider tips: This place is famous for it's Gin selection and quality. If you ask me I recommend a small, light dinner before you leave the house, then meet up with friends, order a few "tapas" (5-9€ each) and drink gin... This is one of the best places in town to do so... Come here and have fun! P.S. If you ever see 2 guys using the pissoirs at the same time, PLEASE let me know... I just don't see it...

The mixed dumplings are very good as was the duck pipa - slices of tender, succulent duck meat still enveloped in a crispy skin - the best part. It comes with amazing pickled onions, raw cucumbers, Napa cabbage and what I would call a rice flour roll, light and puffy, commonly use for pork belly rolls in Korean/Asian fusion restaurants in the U.S. Some dishes have very nice heat, refreshing in a country that doesn't do much spicy food. They have one beer on tap, a pilsner, which I didn't recognize by name but enjoyed. The wine list is short but we had a good Pinot noir/ spätburgunder from the Ahr. The server was attentive, patient and friendly. Overall, not a life-changing experience but a relaxed, good option if you're in the hood.

I wanted to order the entire menu but restrained myself and just got the Tom Ka Kai soup and Prawn Katsu Burger. Both were wonderful! I slurped the soup down to the very last drop and almost ordered another one. The burger was light and fresh, with tons of great flavor. The basil lemonade was the cherry on top of my order, herbaceous and fizzy. I loved every sip! My husband ordered the Umami Burger and fries and was kind enough to share a couple bites. His items were good, but I liked mine way better. The restaurant itself is quaint and cute. You almost forget you're right in the middle of Alexanderplatz under the TV Tower and not tucked into some quiet side-street in some far off destination. It seems to be family run (I think we met father and son at the register and spotted mom cooking) and every employee we encountered was super kind and accommodating. Makes me wish I lived in Berlin instead of Italy so that we could visit more often! Wonder if they'd mail me some of that Tom Ka Kai soup? Hmmm...
