My father made the decision to prepay for everything - funeral home and cemetery before he died. He chose this one as he knew others who had bought plots here. Everything was to be pre-paid as he knew I lived out of state and do not have much money. This cemetery tries to get more money by not finishing things like the memorial plate dates. When my dad died earlier this year, I checked with both the cemetery and funeral home that I would not have to pay anything and they confirmed. My advice, do not trust this place! read more

I had a bench at the top of my deceased husband & my marker added in 2017 in the Boiling Springs, SC Memorial Park. In summer of 2023 it was hit by someone driving thru who had the decency to report it to Good Shepheard and I was told that her insurance would pay for it. I was told that they were ordering another one last year and all have had is the run around since. I have gone by several times and they are working on it. I was told that a manager had found out what the problem was and would call me but to this date I have not received that call. It's a real shame that you can't give zero stars because Good Shepherd doesn't deserve a single one. My understanding is that when my parents and grandparents purchased their plots here in the early 90's that Good Shepherd was a great cemetery. That is definitely not the case now. I purposely have waited a couple months to write this review to lessen the emotions. My father passed away in November 2020 and we quickly realized that Good Shepherd was going to make this situation even worse for us. During our first meeting it didn't go over well that we were going to be getting the marker from a different supplier - FYI people, you do not have to purchase these through the cemetery. You can get them at a much better price from other local companies. I was aware that there would be fees for opening and closing the grave, but I was expecting a couple hundred dollars, not $1500. I rationalized this as part of the fees that you just have to deal with. What my real issue is how we were treated. When two children are sitting there grieving their father, and his wife of 46 years is grieving, does it seem like the opportune time to make your sales pitch? To push us to buy YOUR marker and go ahead and pre pay for HER funeral costs? Do you think that's appropriate? When we left we got a phone call about 10 minutes later that my mother had one more piece of paper to sign, so my husband drove her back while the rest of us went home. Luckily he was with her as she was once again approached about buying their marker. It was an obvious attempt to take a run at her alone, but they failed. But then you just think to yourself, hey, I'm emotional, I'll take some time. But oh no, a week later shortly after he was buried, my mother receives a phone call from Chris that she needs to come in immediately to sign some paperwork. I immediately called Chris back and asked what kind of paperwork? With quite an attitude he told me it was a form ____ that she had to sign to close out her file. When I asked if I could pick it up and bring it back to her because she has trouble walking, he told me no, she had to do it. The next morning I had my husband take her because I just knew I wasn't going to be able to handle it. Guess what - THERE WAS NO PAPER TO BE SIGNED. She didn't sign a SINGLE thing. There was absolutely NO need for her to come in other than to hear yet another sales pitch. You're in the business of death and planning, I get it, and if you want to reach out a couple months later with pre planning offers, so be it, but ONE WEEK after she buried her husband of 46 years AND predicated on a LIE? Hell no. For a long time I tried to tell myself Chris was just a man doing his job, but you know what, if your job requires you to be immoral, then find another job. The lies, the sales pitches, the absolute disregard for the grieving family, and lets not forget that their parent company makes it damn near impossible to contact; the truth must be told on reviews. Also, lets add that after my best friend left a review describing what we had been through, their regional manager suddenly calls and tells us she will be coming by to bring us candles that they do for clients. Funny how those were never mentioned before. She brought them to my mother's house along with a fruit basket at ceramic turkey (this was around Thanksgiving). While she was very nice and respectful, it was too little too late. You get a bad review so suddenly you are going to smooth it over with some nice candles and a fruit basket? No. How about change your business practices instead. I beg you, if you do not already own a plot here, buy one somewhere else. Oh, I'm so glad I'm the first review because you people messed with the wrong one today. My best friend's dad was buried at this cemetery BARELY a week ago, and their representative, Chris, has been nothing but a manipulative, money-hungry, compassionless jerk. They tried to coerce my friend and her brother to pay for an over-priced gravesite marker and literally forced them to pay exorbitant opening and closing costs for his burial. Then, today, just a little over a week since my friend's father's funeral, Chris lured his grieving widow, back to the cemetery on the pretense of unfinished paperwork. There was in fact no paperwork. Chris decided that this was the perfect ruse to get my friend's mother to reconsider buying one of their gravesite markers, even though they already found a more affordable option, and have her try to pay for her opening and closing costs for her plot in advance. Who makes a grieving widow think about her own death and burial just a little over a week after her husband's funeral? Chris apparently does. Shame on you. read more
