The hike is 6 mile RT and has a 1000 feet of elevation gain, which makes it a pretty decent hike. The first portion of this is all trail, and the last portion is mostly sandstone scrambling, and one you reach the peak, if anyone in your group has webbing, there is class 4 scramble to the actual "hollow rock". (it's an easy climb, maybe 20 feet). Great views from the top, you can see the entire city, as well as portions of Black Velvet canyon, Windy Peak area. Bonus, Mountain Springs Saloon is just down the road, makes a nice place to stop after and grab a drink.

There were several reasons for this nature walk, but the primary purpose was to spot and photograph petroglyphs. Unfortunately, after walking 2 1/2 hours we didn't reach where the petroglyphs were located because we started our walk a bit too late in the day and time was against us. But on the next go round, we'll make the necessary adjustments and leave a bit earlier so we can find, photograph, touch and admire any and all petroglyphs that exist on this trail. I look oh so forward to our next visit and I'm sure I will be in awe once I bear witness to the splendor and beauty of the drawings/artwork left behind by the early settlers/indigenous people of this wonderful land. Word to the wise the Nevada weather can reach dangerously high temperature so be sure to bring plenty of water.

It's such a beautiful place , can't believe it dried up 8,000 years ago and we still get to see the beauty of this landmark. I stopped driving in further coz I didn't see any tire tracks. But now I know it's open to the public.

More Like the Frontier's Edge Trail…read more    Situated in the southwest corner of the Las Vegas valley where the Mountains Edge Community merges with the open desert is a 1.26 mile mult-use paved trail. It is the Mountains Edge Trail. To me, it is the shining star of the Mountains Edge Regional Park which has kept me coming back for more hikes. It was only til recently that this became a separate Yelp listing from the Mountains Edge Regional Park. Prior to my most recent experience here I had checked in at the Mountains Edge Regional Park when I hiked on this trail.   The Mountains Edge Trail is an oval shaped trail with the lengthy segments traveling east and west. It is roughly bounded by Mountains Edge Parkway to the north, Buffalo Drive to the east, Cactus Drive to the south, and Durango Drive to the west. The main trailhead is by the playground near the northeast corner of Mountains Edge Regional Park. This is a relatively flat paved trail. My preference is to hike the trail clockwise. Hiking on it clockwise from the vicinity of the playground, the trail approaches a gentle curve transitioning it from an eastbound to a southbound direction. Approaching the curve there is a view of a church and gardens. The trail connects directly to the meandering trails of the garden. Being that it is an oval shaped trail it soon changes from a southbound to a westbound direction. The lengthy westbound segment of the trail is my favorite. Although there are new homes replacing acres of the desert, there continues to be breathtaking views of the desert reaching towards the mountains and picturesque nature frontier contiguous to Red Rock Canyon. The sinuous trail brings out the best of this frontier's edge vista. These smooth curves transition the trail scenery so that trail users like me are not constantly facing west. Development in the park has also transitioned the trail vistas. What had been open desert in the center of the oval is now a soccer field complex and parking lot. In a sinuous fashion the trail continues to meander westbound where the soccer fields revert to open space (for now). After this long and scenic segment, the trail follows Durango Drive for a brief distance. It soon changes to eastbound where it doubles up as a walking path for Mountains Edge Parkway. Headed back towards the playground there is a grand entrance view of the new soccer fields. Here there is a cool soccer ball sculpture and an abundance of parking. This alleviates the parking shortage that I experienced first-hand during peak times in the park. East of the new soccer fields, Mountains Edge Trail branches away from Mountains Edge Parkway into the main trailhead at the playground.   I am very impressed with the cleanliness and condition of Mountains Edge Trail along with the namesake regional park. Normally It is common to find some graffiti on signing and fixtures along hiking trails. Especially along segments in undeveloped areas. Not here! On a scale from 1 to 5 on "condition and upkeep" I awaard it 5 stars.   I started out the review with the heading "Frontier's Edge."  There is still enough connected undeveloped land south of the Mountains Edge Trail to connect it to the picturesque desert reaching towards Red Rock Canyon that would create a desert panhandle. As an avid hiker I hope that the powers to be create permanent open space bridging the trail to the desert. This panhandle of open desert would also connect it to the nearby James Brown Trail. Essentially the Mountains Edge Trail would connect to the true mountain's edge of the Las Vegas valley creating a hiking destination and better quality of life. Every time I hike on the Mountains Edge Trail the questions are "Will this be the last time that I will see this picturesque desert vista from the Mountains Edge Trail?" "The next time I hike here, will it be a desert oasis surrounded by the next wave of development marching towards the mountains?"    Whether it joins a panhandle of desert connecting to the frontier by Red Rock or surrounded by the next wave of development I recommend Mountains Edge Trail. Now for the ultimate hiking experience in Mountains Edge I recommend hiking the 1.24 Mountains Edge Trail with Shoelace Mountain in the close-by Exploration Park. In conclusion I give Mountains Edge Trail my 4 Star approval.

The natural scenery on that trail was just beautiful...one word of caution beware of random"Land Mines" aka Horse Droppings...I was INCHES away from one while enjoying the view...could it be the thinner, cooler air up there??? I am a big fan of the Green Valley Ranch Walking Trail System. It is miles of attractively…read morelandscaped urban trails that connect the communities and parks throughout Green Valley Ranch. Bobtail Circle Park is a representation of the gorgeous Green Valley Ranch Trail system. When I have partook in my urban Green Valley Ranch hikes, eleven times I have passed through Bobtail Circle Park. It is located along the Amargosa Mile Marker Seven SpurTrail, which is a walking path that connects Amargosa Trail to Strawberry Hill Park and to Dos Esceules Park via Golden View Street. Bobtail Circle Park is a neighborhood park that is designed to serve the immediate neighborhood. The ramifications are that in similar fashion to Strawberry Hill Park down the spur trail, there are no restrooms. On account of zero parking spaces, motorists access this park by parking on the side of Bobtail Circle. The nearest parking lot is at Dos Esceules Park. For me, Bobtail Circle Park also serves as a component of the miles of Green Valley Ranch Walking trails. Just like the miles of connecting walking paths and parks, it is gorgeous. When I walk along the diminutive park, my eyes follow the landscaped wash to the east that I follow along the Amargosa Mile Marker Seven Spur Trail. Throughout the tiny park there is a canopy of mature trees that provide sufficient shade. This provides for a shaded spot to have a picnic at the picnic tables. At the northwest corner there is an open grass area. The focal points of the park are the playground and gazebo housing a picnic table and barbecue grill. It is managed by the Green Valley Ranch Community instead of Henderson. I am unsure if people outside the community are allowed to use the facilities. I would like to point out that although I have been to Bobtail Circle Park eleven times, I never checked in there because it was too close to my eleven Strawberry Hill Park Check-ins. I would also like to point out that I give Bobtail Circle Park four stars. I see it as a representation of the gorgeous Green Valley Ranch Walking Trail System.

The area is spectacularly clean. It was nice and quiet and overall very enjoyable. The Inspirada community is located in the southeastern part of the Las Vegas Valley within the city of Henderson, Nevada. It is a master-planned community situated in the southern part of the valley, offering a suburban lifestyle while still being close to the amenities of the larger Las Vegas area. Key Details City: Henderson, NV Region: Southeast Las Vegas Valley Proximity: Close to the I-15 freeway and the St. Rose Parkway, giving easy access to the Las Vegas Strip. Characteristics: Known for its parks, trails, schools, and community-focused atmosphere.

Rising above the Las Vegas Strip on the southern rim in Inspirada is a 2.2 acre overlook that…read moreprovides breathtaking views. It is the Inspirada Overlook (also called The Overlook at Inspirada).      One of the things I enjoy doing is touring Google Maps looking for new places. This is how I learned about the Inspirada Overlook. This morning it progressed from a virtual tour to real life when I parked at Anthem Highlands Shopping Center then partook in a walk through Inspirada that included the Inspirada Overlook.    This is a very small park that features a 2.5 desert garden with a gazebo structure. The diminutive walking paths lead to the gazebo structure and open grass space where the overlook is. Although the park is around five years old there was a plentitude of mature trees. Throughout the very short walkways to the overlook are plaques that mention interesting facts such as the exact lines of longitude it stands on, when Henderson was born, and other cool stuff. Above me on the trees, I heard the songs of birds. What I didn't hear was the song of dogs. This is a dog friendly park with a dog waste station.    I spent the most time at the open grass space overlook. This is an awesome spot to take in spectacular views of both Las Vegas and south Henderson. I will explain the view going in a clockwise starting from 12 o' clock at the north. At 12 o' clock (north) it looks down at a grand view of the Las Vegas Strip. From 1 o' clock to 3 o' clock  (northeast) it overlooks the northern neighborhoods of Anthem with the distant Sheep Mountain Range. From 3 o' clock to 5 o' clock (east) the view features Inspirada and the Anthem Highlands with Black Mountain and the surrounding mountains. From 6 o' clock to 7 o' clock (south) it takes in the mountains of the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. From 8 o' clock to 12 o' clock (west) in place of an overlook there are new homes going up. When I spent time here around eight in the morning, it wasn't the best time to visit. I believe that the best times to visit would be during sunrise or sundown when the sun puts on a majestic show over the Las Vegas Strip and mountains.     Although I arrived here by walking, there is a moderate size paved parking lot to the south. The fact that there is a parking lot leads me to the impression that this is more than a park for strictly Inspirada residents. There is the possibility that maybe one day in the future the City of Henderson will take over the deeds of the park from Inspirada and expand the amenities. There are currently zero benches or picnic tables.    The centerpiece gazebo structure with the Inspirada name on it is both a community landmark and marketing tool that Inspirada uses to sell new homes. When taking these two things into consideration, it seems evident that Inspirada will leave the open space overlooking the Las Vegas Strip undeveloped.    In the future I plan to return here. Preferably it would be during sunrise or sundown when the sun puts on a mesmerizing show over the Las Vegas Strip and mountains.
