It has been a while since I have bought something for work, and let's face it, not everyone works a job that requires fancy clothes. I had been out all day and been looking for thrift stores to hit up. The only one that I had been to in this area is a Goodwill, that is until I found this one. Fun thing about this spot is that it is housed in what used to be a Howard Johnson check in building. Still has the shape and all. It is a small shop, but it serves the purpose. Every piece in this shop appears to be handpicked. That was the one nice thing, even though I wasn't looking for something over the top, I found nice pieces that fit my need. Like many places, the men's section is rather sparse. Guess that just means that guys don't want to give up their clothes as much as women. That is basically the only reason I can't give this place five stars. I browsed the racks and found a few things that fit what I needed. For three pieces, I paid what I would have for one item new at any store around. I will definitely be back here, if only to browse. But I hope that if I do I will be able to find more steals.

However next to that piece on the rack is a piece of mall-store godawfulness that is more expensive than an ACTUAL DESIGNER ITEM. Also, the attitude shown toward browsing (even though I eventually made a significant purchase) was curt, bordering rude. Seriously? This is Ebensburg, not Brooklyn, not even Pittsburgh. I'm not trying to use my Black Card to snag a personal shopper on Christmas Eve at Saks. I'm just trying to sift through your miserable selection to find something priced to quality that is worth purchasing. Go to Goodwill.

Why that may be is because it does not look like a business. It sits on a road that looks like a driveway to houses, and the building itself looks like it might be a garage. Once in the parking lot you realize that it is indeed a business and that they are open for business. Like most thrift stores there is an area outside for donations, like a drop box, but this one directly goes inside the building. Simple setup on the inside. The place looks rather small, but I will explain that later. The floor where all the items for purchase are located feels cramped, and a bit unorganized. The aisles are rather small and definitely can become congested. Going to put this out there guys, there is not much clothing items here for you. There is a larger ladies section and children section. But don't let that dissuade you from coming here. On top of the clothing you will find household items, toys, games, and small appliances. The list could go on. Now, back to the point where it feels cramped. The building is rather large so you would think that would equate to a bigger inside, well it is a bigger inside because it shares a space. It shares the space with a food pantry that serves the area. What you buy in the store portion helps fund the food pantry and other services they offer. Great place as it also provides cash assistance which can help cover rent, mortgage, or utility bills.

And so, so inexpensively priced! I scored a white mid century leather ottoman for $4 (!!), 70s woven leather heeled sandals ($2.50), 3 vintage scarves ($0.25 each), a glass owl perfume bottle ($1.00), two gold mid century shop wall hangings ($0.25 each), flower power mod linens ($1.50) and an adorable vintage crewel needlepoint wall hanging.... All for under $12. The ladies working were kind enough to stay open for a little bit longer so I could shop. They were very friendly and said that the shop is struggling getting business so pleeeeease go visit so they can keep this amazing shop going! If you're used to overpriced thrift shops, this will be thrift heaven for you. Cash and checks only. They mentioned the entire store will be 50% off July 2nd - 5th 2013. Go go go!! :)

I have to concur with the one star reviews for this Salvation Army. There is nothing special about…read morethis location in the least. As soon as you walk in you are met with that harsh fluorescent light that makes this whole place feel dirtier. I know it is a Salvation Army, but do they just not clean them? Like, once Salvation Army takes over a spot it's like all maintenance goes out the window. Floors don't get scrubbed, walls get dented, there's always a musty smell. Then you have to try to get through their donations to find anything worth thrifting. Once you do, you need to make sure that the prices are reasonable. I searched through the clothing and gave up pretty quickly as I wasn't finding anything worth giving a second life to. I then went to the housewares section to see if I could find anything worthwhile and it felt like I was at a garage sale. I left after that.

There is ample parking behind the building and people seem to use the lot across the street as an overflow lot. Guess it's an appropriate use of a lot that doesn't have a use anymore. Everything inside seems to have a proper place for it until it is bought. There are tons of items to look through so either make sure you know what you are looking for or give yourself some time to look through everything. Make sure you also keep track of your kids if you bring them. They do have a toy section, but they also ask that you don't leave your children unattended in this area as it is not an area where they should go and play. It can be rather noisy in here as it is a busy place. I felt a little uneasy as there is a loft like area above that people that work here seem to have conversations. You end up unintentionally eavesdropping. But I would suppose they are used to that.

During my visit I witnessed a customer gently tell a young male employee that things were priced much too high. The customer asked how they come up with thier prices. The employee said "Ebay, but we can't Ebay everything or we'd be here all day." That is a direct quote. Apparently, running a thrift store is a genius way to be a reseller with 100 percent profits since items are donated. Also overheard a LOUD customer making a deal with the manager of the store to sell a painting on Ebay wherein she exclaimed "take a percentage and give me the rest." As for the goods, it's really a mix of things that should have gone in the dumpster at premium prices and mediocre goods also at premium prices. I picked up a bag and was immediately overcome by the smell of cat urine -- item priced at $8. Found a pair of elastic waistbanded shorts for $6. Upon removing the shorts from the hanger, I discovered the elastic was completely shot. It was completely stretched to the limit with no rebounding ability. Two examples of items that should have been disposed of immediately. They keep many items locked in display cases with price tags on many flipped upside down or out of sight. I'm not sure how this is condusive to doing business. Is this a thrift store or a Manhattan boutique? God forbid you ask someone to "show" you something. The employees take rudeness to unprecidented levels, especially the dark-haired old lady. And as if all this wasn't enough, the floors throughout are a serious trip-and-fall hazard. They are warped and dangerous if you are not familiar with the terrain. Yes, there are hills and valleys throughout the flooring that you cannot see. There is no signage indicating to watch your step, but this is understandable. Researching the asking price of donated items on Ebay is probably quite a time consuming process. No time to make a sign for customer safety. Remember God is watching you, ladies. Taking in free donations and pricing them Ebay style is definitely NOT Christian behavior. Many things in your store can actually be gotten cheaper in a big box store. I don't know God personally, but I am pretty sure he would frown upon your obvious greed.

Finds is definitely one of the most upscale consignment shops I've ever seen. The decor they have is exquisite, and you will always see antiques from near and far. However they only deal with home furnishings and home decor. If you are just looking for a bargain, this may not be your place to go. The way it is set up you actually feel like you are in a run of the mill furniture store. It is rather large inside and you might find something you didn't expect in here. Merchandise changes frequently, so coming back may be a different experience. Customer service is top notch here and basically cuts out the guess work. I had a question on whether they had an item or not and with the answer I got it saved me from browsing and become frustrated.
