I watched as staff rolled out large shopping carts and filled them with items that had the colored tags for the half off special for that day. Three employees were engaged in this. One was pulling orange tag (that days sale) items from each section, and wheeling the carts into the back so no one could get any orange tag items for half off that day. The other two looked like they were stocking new items, but they were simply putting items back they had pulled the day before so no one could get half off of those items. I found zero orange tag shoes, games, women's clothing, etc. I will contact corporate and ask if this is indeed how they do business. Add: prices are NOT thrift prices. They wanted $14 for a dirty no name blazer, for instance. Lots of items are just junk. This place used to be fun to shop at but now you won't get sales as well as seeing stuff like dirty, lidless storage bins for sale for $8. There are no dressing rooms, either. There are better thrift stores than this corporate scam.

I visited in July 2024 with a friend because she wanted to buy a dress for a party she was attending the next day so I drove her here. She ended up finding a dress that she liked. I wasn't planning on buying anything but I ended up getting a pair of red flats for $9.29. As expected, their shoe selection for my size, which is above a size 10, was limited so I was happy to find cute red flats that were my size. The store is quite large and very clean. Parking is convenient up the hill, and once you get the hang of the traffic flow, getting in and out is simple. As an art junk journaler who creates handmade books and Bible devotionals, this has become one of my favorite places for inspiration. I always find unique art supplies, craft materials, and new ideas. Their book section is huge--I rarely leave without a handful of great finds for just a few dollars. One day, I even stopped in when all the children's books were free! I also keep an eye out for storage containers and baskets, and I can almost always find one or two perfect pieces. They offer a small rewards system linked to your phone number, which is a nice bonus. What truly adds to the experience is the staff. The employees--many of them young--are always friendly, patient, and consistently kind in every interaction. They're quick to offer assistance and make the shopping experience even better. My favorite part of the store is the craft area--everything is color-coded, making it incredibly easy to browse. They also set up seasonal holiday sections, which I love. Beyond that, the store carries clothing for all ages, tools, wall art, and an ever-changing variety of furnishings and home goods. Always organized, always stocked, and always a winner in my book!

The Fairview Park shop is a nice combination of clothes and some great bric a brac. Located in a medium sized plaza the Discovery Shop is also medium sized, always clean and well organized and you can find some great finds. Each week they have a 50% off color and the last weekend of the month everything in the store is 50% off. At this store I have found some really good clothes finds, especially on the men's clearance rack where the cost is $1 per item. I have found suit jackets, shirts and pants, while the men's selection is not large, what they have is usually very good and high quality. I have noticed that this store has a much larger selection of women's clothes. The store usually has a nice small selection of dishes, kitchenware and art; they do have some really interesting items up near the register, they often have some pieces from Europe, Asia and Africa. The selection seems to change everytime I have visited, nothing seems to last long at this shop. As an example I found a really nice leather motorcycle bag for under $10. The Fairview Park Discovery Shop is a fun and diverse place to do some thrifting; not the biggest store, but they really do a great job of making sure that they are selling high quality items at great prices. Not the kind of thrift store you are going to spend hours at, but well worth a visit whenever you are in the area to check out what they have. Plus the proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society which is a very worthwhile charity.

The people working there are friendly and helpful, although it seems to be a bit understaffed. The Fairlawn Salvation Army thrift store used to be one of my favorites, then they eliminated some of the discount colors and then went to a system with most of the clothes being priced according to what they are, i.e. pants and shirts are $4.99 and there is one color that is half price (although on Wednesdays everything except one color are half price). On my most recent visit they have backtracked a bit so that most of the brick a brack and shoes are individually priced. There are still some good values, however the selection seems to be not as good and it can be confusing what certain things cost. The advantage of the current system is that if you find a high quality piece of clothing you do get it for a good price. The non-clothing selection has definitely decreased, the selection is limited and there are not a lot of interesting items. In the past I have found some really nice items, but now it seems like most of the stuff is nothing really special. Overall a pretty good thrift store, but not worth a trip just for thus store.
