I went to make a donation of my daughters clothes, books and toys she grew out of. Steven was the one who helped me and said that even though they're not supposed to accept toys he'd take care of everything for me! It was nice he took the time to make sure I left my other items as well, since I was going to just take everything somewhere else if they couldn't take it all. Thanks Steven!! read more

Pull into the spacious parking lot, drive right up to the donation area where the staff will point you to the drop-off area, hook you up with a receipt and send you on your way. The shopping experience was okay. However at the checkout despite of 50 % off on yellow tagged items, lady quoted a full price. Upon reminding her she let me take the items on discount! Also few other items we picked did not have the correct price tags. An items tagged .99 cents was actually $10! The thing which was more offensive was when the same lady started inquiring why I had 2 jackets with me ( I was wearing a casual coat and had another wind cheater in my hand for cold breezy day). I replied casually that we were at the pier & needed an extra. After walking out I felt offended but did not want to engage in any conversation at that point, as I was with my child who needed my attention. I feel it was none of her business to ask why I carried two jackets. It was not only unprofessional but also rude. She sounded suspicious that I did not pay for an item. This was between 4:00-4:45 pm on 2nd Jan 2017. She was a black women at the first checkout counter. I hope the administration can educate the staff about basic code of conduct & being polite. Perhaps they can be more straight forward by asking ' Mam are you also buying that jacket. ' rather than asking ' why do you have two jackets?' I hope they pay attention to this review and address the concern. read more

Man oh man do I love this place. They have a parking lot, nice staff and are cleaner than most thrift stores I've been in. I also think there's some new deal between Target and goodwill where the clearance items that don't sale at Target end up here. I've found some great deals on brand new closeout stuff from Target- or Tarquetta as Joshua would say! I got a cute pair of brown peep-toe flats- brand new for like $4.99. I've also snagged other cool goodies from here like photo frames, vases, and other assorted home decor items. I'm not big into buying clothes from thrift stores, but of the ones I've visited, I might trust their selection the most. Yay Goodwill, your will is so...good! read more

Just took items to be donated to the location on San Pablo. There were 4 gentlemen unloading a large truck. I asked if this was where the donations go- they said yes- and I could just put them over there- and pointed to a spot on the concrete. Didn't help me unload the 2 large totes and 4 boxes and large area rug. Didn't say thanks, didn't ask if I wanted a receipt...nothing. Very different than other Goodwills I have been to- where they go out of their way to help you. Won't be donating at this location again. read more

Don't bother coming here to donate unless you enjoy dealing with extremely rude people. I came with my first car load of items and the person would shout at us if it wasn't an eligible item to donate. No sort of greeting or any interaction, aside from grunts and points. I returned about 30 minutes prior to closing, when the truck was still being loaded. Again the lady yelled at me, this time they were closed apparently. I pleaded with her to take the quality chair and 2 bags of clothing, but she just continued to yell that they were closed. I don't expect to be treated that well or anything, but I definitely don't need to be disrespected while donating items. Don't worry Goodwill, there are other places that would be happy to take my donations.... I'll go there from now on. read more

The women who work at the back, where you drop off your precious treasures, are having a bad day EVERY day. I suppose I might be upset if I worked at Goodwill before retirement also. Perhaps it's cool to shop here, but donating is definitely a no. Go to University Ave in Berkeley. They're much more appreciative of your donations. read more

When I turned 30, I decided that it was finally time to part with my race car bed and I found myself in need of a bed frame. The Berkeley Goodwill did not have any available, but this location had them brand new and boxed for under $40 (full size). The two ladies working were super friendly too. BONUS. read more

May be an okay place to shop, but the donation drop-off is terrible. I've had the same experience as other posters - couldn't donate because the truck was there, couldn't donate because they weren't taking housewares that week, they couldn't anticipate what they might take or not take at a later date. This is the age of the internet! It should be possible to let people know what time donations are accepted and what goods are being accepted. The staff acted as though they would be doing us a big favor to take our stuff; they showed no consideration for the fact that we'd driven across town to make donations. This place is great. I recently moved here from the Sacramento area, and what a difference these Goodwills are from each other. The selection is better than Ross. It's assorted by color and article type. The house hold section is smaller than others I've been to. This place is clean, clean, clean. No treasures here,i agree with other reviews everything supposedly send out to ECOMMERCE.Destroying the foot traffic they had for years.Its becoming a drop off location and that's it.of course all the good stuff disappears and i was told the rest hits the eCommerce.So they put outrages prices on products to compensate the foot traffic they lost and for example ,a shoe with a hole for $24.95 torn shirt $12.95 no antiques a TV that's doesn't start $59.They say you can return it but of course they don't give money back just exchange for another garbage.Its sad a place that supposed to help people its becoming ruthless.Be extra careful on this one and don't donate either. read more

Extremely rude staff, specifically the donation acceptance guy. Went in around 5 pm, well before the 7 pm closing time, and politely asked the donation person where he wanted me to put my small stack of items to donate. He didn't even stand up from his perch against the wall and told me "Read the sign" pretty aggressively. I was confused since it read "Donation station" and pointed to a table, so I asked if the table was ok. He then told me to "Read the sign." So blatantly rude. I said I did and read what it said to him. He told me that "it says we're closed". Nowhere on the sign did it say that, unless the other side had a handwritten note or something but it was already dark and I had no idea why he'd still be out there with all the donation carts looking like he's waiting for donations... I said that I thought it was open until 7 pm and he said "well I guess you need to read the sign a little closer." Now I was annoyed and said "fine" and left. I accidentally dropped one of my items on the way back and he started loudly laughing at my back. I didn't expect stellar service but I did expect at least someone with a maturity level above a 5 year old.. Seems like there are several complaints about this same donation acceptance guy... why is he still employed? read more

The donation person at this site is a complete joke. If you have to deal with the older guy in the parking lot for donations, he's surly, unfriendly, tells you what to do and doesn't actually help you do anything. I'm sure this company hires reprobates out of prison, but there's a fine line between good customer service and being an outright jerk. The people who answer the phones also tell you incorrect information and they don't really have a good person to complain to. All they really have to do is accept reusable items for resale and they can't even do that. If Goodwill has a bunch of tools like this working for them, they need to close up shop or starting hiring competent people. I personally am a manager for a business and I've seen rude service, this guy took the cake and seriously needs to be fired. read more

I would give this store negative stars if I could. I have lived in the neighborhood for years and have attempted to donate nice, nearly new clothes, home goods, and furniture on many occasions and have gotten hassled by the employees and treated rudely at the donation center every time. It seems that workers randomly make up rules at whim about the number of items they can receive per person or when they are randomly closed and not accepting donations even though it's during normal operating hours. This past weekend I attempted to donate a bookshelf and armoire, both in practically brand new condition, at 2 pm on a Sunday and there was a crudely handwritten sign (barely legible) that they were temporarily not receiving donations. When I said I brought the bulky items all this way and could I leave them, one of the workers was inexcusably rude to me and snapped "can't you READ?" And several other employees just stared at me and told me to go away and come back in 30-45 min. Furniture is not easy to lug around and they should accept donations at the posted times. I took my furniture to Urban Ore instead. I have more items to donate but am going to throw them in the trash rather than support this establishment. I refuse to shop at this store or support with my donations. Rather than being grateful for free donations of nice items, the employees are rude and unprofessional and turn away donations. In terms of stuff, not the best store. I really love donating and tend to drop items off about once every other month. Designer clothes, shoes, handbags, quilts, etc. I've found a couple good piece for Halloween costumes and would hope that they would have better furniture pieces and accessories, but yes, it's very hit or miss which makes me wonder if they take donations off-site to process them and then bring the crap back to this store. Just saying. Great mission though and I love the organization itself as they do great work for the mentally disabled, formerly incarcerated and others needing a helping hand, not a hand out. read more

The last time I was browsing here, a staff member overheard me talking about an item that was was not discounted from its original retail value and immediately (and happily!) repriced it. It's nicely organized and well run as far as thrift stores go. I got a nice vintage chandelier here for well under $10 that I absolutely love. read more

This is, by far, my favorite Goodwill store. It's organized by color! Every once in a while, when I need a couple of white blouses to work catering gigs in- and don't want to spend a fortune on a blouse someone will inevitably spill wine on- I head over to this Goodwill, and set myself free. On my last visit, on the aforementioned white blouse hunt- I scored a new, tags still on Banana Republic blouse for $3.99. I left singing. I've had great luck there- and I really appreciate the organization. Parking lot is a plus. read more

This is not a "get a costume over Halloween" review and never go back. I am a regular customer of this place. Meaning at least once a week I go to shop there. Here is why. I have found nice, almost new items in the women's section. Nice shoes as well and purses and some furniture items. The prices are too high now and I do not shop there as often I go into Berkeley to Magic Johnsons place on University, the furniture and clothes are cheaper. The staff is helpful, but I don't like the way some are treated.........they need to figure out a furniture delivery system even if its just a referral source. My advice is drop the prices down, it is goodwill after all and not Walmart. read more

The funny thing is, I always go here trying to find specific kitchenware that I want, but I never find what I'm looking for and instead buy other things instead. Don't even bother coming to this location. I like thrifting at Goodwill and other thrift stores for pots, pans and other home goods. The customer service is horrible here. I've come to this store a few times, and each time the lady cashier, light complexioned with the long braids to the side, would not speak when a customer walks in. Like, I get you may not like your job cuz it does not pay you well, and the only skills you have are thrift store cashiering. But at least pretend to like it. Especially when a paying customer comes in. each time , she will just look me up and down as if I'm there to steal. The straw that broke the camel's back was today, coming from my workout at City Sports, I decided to browse for more skillets, glasses and cutlery. I found a nice cast iron skillet with the price tag if $1.99. I think, SCORE! Take my items up to the same cashier, who said nothing to me. Like where are your customer service skills?? Oh. Yeah. This is just Goodwill, not Williams Sonoma. She then takes the skillet, walks to the back room, still did not say anything to me , or if there was a problem. Comes back out with a new price sticker of $9.99. I tell her that's not the price that was on the skillet. You just changed the price. She says "Ain't no way that price is $1.99." I just walk out. I'm not gonna argue with a low paying, thrift store working ,attitude having, miserable at her life cashier. I would rather spend that price on a brand new skillet. So off to Target I go, where at least the cashier's are much friendlier. read more

An OK thrift store. The Target returns are over priced. Lots of Clothes and shoes. I have found some jems sometimes, but mostly I come away empty handed. Very hit or miss. Good selection for Jeans but at $6 to $9. Going to goodwills for awhile, all are asking a higher price than most thrift stores. Go when they have their weekend clothing sales. I think this store it great for finding costume items, but go way before halloween. The donation people are sometimes rude, and they dont take some items. Over all I stop in from time to time and look for clothes. read more

This has became my all time favorite goodwill to come to. At first I wasn't having any luck in this store but the manager came, asked me if I needed any help and she was so wonderful showing me around the store, asking me what I was looking for. She went the extra mile for me. I will never shop at another goodwill location only this one. It's hard to find nice people in retail. But this manager was beyond lovely and very knowledgeable about everything In the store. I was only planning on spending $35 but when I left I spent $106. I couldn't believe all the great things I found with the managers help. I couldn't pass up the great deals here.
