Today I got $48 worth of $1, $2 and $3 paperbacks. She will be thrilled. We shop at a lot of Goodwill stores and thrift shops. This store is well laid out and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's worth a visit.

Slim pickings, and the racks were less than half full. I understand completely that Goodwill's business model is based on donations, but man, wouldn't you think with everyone cleaning out their houses during the pandemic that this join would be filled with second hand treasures. IDK fam, I'm not from the area, and this area may be a weird one that I'm not fully aware of, but man was I disappointed in the selection. It seemed like they had more random new stuff (overstock) than second hand finds. Anywho, I found a cool polar bear sweater that needs a bit of work for this holiday season, but I cannot wait to add to my "ugly sweater" collection.

Vivaldi's 'Winter' plays in my head as I step inside and the Russian Nutcracker dolls stare a warm blankness of welcome back at me - and I begin to observe things more closely as I go - to the end of the rainbow. Norwegian cup sets and German decorative plates are set up in front of flowing paintings of cherry blossoms, oils of creepy kids and alternative art canvases and it darn near broke my heart to leave the French prints behind. Look up to see candelabras and left to see a antique ice bucket - all of this I adore. Manual hand mixers and beaters next to flour and sugar silos, enamel coffee pots and Pyrex tanned glass crockery. My arms were filling up so I bought two bags and went hither and tither and placed two egg cups inside and a Ralph Lauren roll-up mat with pillow. Between the hand blown blue and green glass galore the large pewter population, frosted glass of polar bears and Mickey Mouse - I had to have it all, but I live on the road and I shant - much to my sadness my rainbow was shortened on this day.

I went to this Salvation Army location on a whim with some friends on New Years Eve and I'm so…read morehappy I did! 50% off all clothing purchases that day! What a steal! Walked out with some fantastic additions to my wardrobe. Racks upon racks to peruse. Everything seemed to be organized by color and type (even the housewares section!). By size would have been ideal as well but I guess finding something that draws your eye is made that much more exciting when you find it is your size as well. I went with the intent of just browsing but left with several new pairs of workout leggings and a dress for that evening. The dress (pictured) cost only $4.50!!! What!! The staff were very helpful and they seemed to have plenty of hands on deck for the sale. People manning the changing area and working the registers kept the flow of patrons moving. The rows between the racks were a bit narrow but people were generally accommodating and made room for each other. With some time and patience, you can score some bargains here. Lots of brand names. Clothing seemed to be in decent shape.

I was about to give this ReStore branch a merely fair 3-star review, but I decided that my reason…read morewasn't really fair so I added a star. I will say why below. Anyway, we are in the process of expanding our living space and will need a few additional sticks of furniture, so we drove to Bangor to check it out as part of our periodic trip to "the big city." Their items are in one large warehouse-looking space. They had a good variety of items: furniture, housewares, tools and building supplies, and so on. They had a lot of new tools and painting supplies. Not sure why - items they didn't use for one of their house builds, maybe? The tables and bureaus we checked out looked a bit knocked about for the prices they were asking, but we are used to thrift store or similar sources, and prices are higher everywhere these days in our current economy. We will probably check back at some point if we don't fill our needs elsewhere. We bought a few smaller items, however, with prices that were more in line with what we expected. The "unfair" reasons I mentioned for almost rating it lower was twofold. We lived in Florida for several years by mistake (because of the hot summers and the local politics), but there was a ReStore we really like there and went to often. There was a showroom area made up of several rooms containing separate types of items. There was also a partially covered outside area where there was more furniture and building materials. With no snow or frigid temperatures they can get away with that. The second reason I was less impressed had to do with the entire strip mall. There is no restroom in any of the ten or so businesses in this strip mall. So if it takes you an hour or more to get there like it does for us, you may need to stop somewhere else first if you need a pit stop. But it is all for a good cause and certainly worth a return trip if we need to.

And during my most recent visit to this branch of Goodwill, they had more selection in men's clothing than in the recent past. But still, I have to admit the clothing prices surprised and dismayed me. $10 each for used t-shirts and sweat pants? I had found new sweat pants online for that price and free shipping, but thought I would check Goodwill. Oh well. Then ai found some at the Sally army thrift store for under $4 each and bought three pair. So if looking for particular non-clothing items, Inwill keep Goodwill as an option. For my clothes, not so much.
