I always go in with high hopes, and occasionally I'm rewarded with an amazing find, such as the absolute cutest, black-and-white beaded capri sweatsuit I've ever seen. I splurged on that one 2 years ago, and I've just been so happy with it. Beautifully made, and so unique. The problem is, their prices are very high, even for basic items. Expect to pay at least $50 for each piece of clothing, and usually over $100. Case in point, yesterday, near the door, there was a rack of gorgeous dresses with tie-died skirts. In any other boutique, this would cost maybe, at the highest, $40 or so, probably less. At Piccolino, they were in the $120 range. These are *sundresses* - nothing fancy. There's just no way I'm paying that, no matter how cute it is. The prices just seem unnecessarily inflated. Accessories have also been disappointing lately. At the old location, accessories were really the focus, given the smaller size of that location. Many appeared to be handmade, or at least very high quality, and clearly they were carefully selected to set just the right tone for the store. In recent years, the accessories appear to be just an afterthought - overpriced, poor quality, and uninteresting. Piccolino is much like a formerly cute cottage: a place that used to be tended to lovingly, but over the years has fallen into a state of sad disrepair, a place with so much wasted potential. This is a place that used to be one of those unique little 2nd St. Lewes gems that now is just as overpriced and generic as any other mainstream boutique in any other small town. I still go when I am in Lewes, hoping for the Piccolino of old, but so far, no luck.

The store has definitely grown in size and selection over the years. I first started shopping there in my early 20s and at first the store offered lots of accessories and cute "going out" pieces. Now, in my early 30s - the boutique offers lots more in its bigger space. I have so many things to choose from when I shop there - jewelry for fun and everyday wear, clothes for work, dresses for weddings, pieces for everything from the beach to a snow day, and cute things for my 1 year old daughter. I have purchased more quality handbags, clutches, HOBO wallets/bags, and UGGS than I'd ever tell my husband. Everything you find at Piccolino is quality merchandise, the owner is the sweetest person you could meet, and the ever present "guard" dog Lucy will make your day when you stop into this charming boutique!

Unfortunately, my experience during this visit has completely changed the way I feel about your business. I am a pancreatic cancer survivor, and as a result, I occasionally experience sudden stomach issues that are completely unpredictable and beyond my control. When this happens, having immediate access to a restroom is not a convenience--it can be an absolute necessity. During my visit, I was experiencing such an emergency. I approached the employees at the register and, despite feeling extremely embarrassed and vulnerable, explained my situation and respectfully asked if I could please use the store's restroom. I understood that your store policy is the restroom is not for public use, and I would not have asked if I were not experiencing a genuine emergency. I was refused. I was told that the store had previously allowed customers to use the restroom and that on some occasions, employees were left with a mess to clean up. I understood that those experiences may have been frustrating, but I was standing there asking for help during a medical-related emergency. I assured the employees that I was not going to abuse the privilege, yet I was still told no and had to walk to the next building desperately looking for a restroom. I cannot adequately express how humiliating and upsetting that experience was. It was difficult enough to have to ask for help in such a vulnerable situation, but being refused when I was clearly in distress was incredibly disappointing. Businesses certainly have the right to establish policies, but I hope you will consider whether there should be some discretion for genuine emergencies--particularly when someone explains that they are dealing with a medical condition. A little compassion in that moment would have made an enormous difference. I have been a loyal customer and someone who has recommended your store to friends and family. Sadly, after this experience, I will no longer be visiting The Brush Factory, nor will I be recommending it to others. I sincerely hope you reconsider how situations like this are handled in the future. No customer should have to feel ashamed or humiliated for asking for help when they are experiencing an unexpected medical emergency.

I ended up buying 4 bags worth and I got quite a bit too. I wish more thrift stores in the area did this. I stopped in the Longneck Blooming Boutique a few weeks ago. They have a great selection of…read moreclothing and shoes. Then I saw these adorable purses in a glass case. The company who makes the bags is from London. All kinds of sizes and unique designs! One of the ladies who worked there explained the company and the different designs. The Lewes Blooming Boutique had a bigger selection of this line (Vendula). I went to the Lewes Blooming Boutique and they did have a bigger selection of these cute bags. The owner was there and she told me the bag I was interested in would be arriving at her Lewes store in the next week . I gave them my contact information and they called me the following week to tell me the bag I was interested in had come in! The owner, the people who work at both Longneck and the Lewes store are all helpful and kind. I love shopping local and enjoy great customer service. I'm enjoying my fun bag and recommend this boutique!
