A growing school district with a beautiful administration building…read more Students are obviously the focus of this school district as the walls are lined with their praises and new schools are always being built. It's really exciting to be a part of such changes. It's especially amazing to experience such changes from the aspect of a young student, a community member, and an employee!

Today, my child was sent home from school due to an issue with his facial hair. I was initially…read moreunder the impression that the school's focus was on education, not appearance. However, I was informed that he was required to trim his facial hair, which not only contradicts our religious beliefs but also infringes upon the First Amendment rights of religious freedom that every religious American has in public schools. Policies should not be altered based on the perceived future of a generation. Instead, schools should prioritize more pressing concerns. While attire is understandable, facial hair removal is an extreme measure that should not be imposed on individuals. It is disrespectful to the values we uphold when the system designed to support our children's success is instructing them to remove their facial hair. This policy appears biased, as I have observed faculty and staff with facial hair and numerous board members who also have facial hair. Therefore, I intend to address this matter with the board of trustees on September 8, 2026, at 6:00 PM.

I graduated from the Chinquapin School in 2006 (this marks 20 years today). The directors at the…read moretime were Bill and Kathy Heinzerling. They were the directors at Chinquapin for about 30 years. The intial idea was to provide quality education for low-income students like myself at the time. Similiarly, to the affluent schools like St. John's School in the Upper Kirby area in Houston. In fact, the founders of the school were Bob and Maxine Moore who intially worked for St. John's at the time and decided to open The Chinquapin school in 1969. The Chinquapin School was a safe haven for me when home life was complete chaos. My English teachers at the time saw a lot of potential in me and pushed me to write and excel in my writing and academics. I am the first woman to graduate high school in my family. I am first woman in my family to graduate college. I am the first teacher in my family. Currently, I teach English I at Yes Prep Public Schools (I have been awarded by the state because of my STAAR scores). I have read some of the recent reviews on here. And clearly based on those reviews some things have changed due to the leadership and the culture in recent years. However, I have enrolled my son here and this will be his second year at The Chinquapin School. He absolutely loves it. The school now has a new director, I believe her name is Chelsea Korth.

if I could give it negative stars I would. i could write a whole book on how this school was living…read moreheck. I sent my daughter there in 2022 and she also as living there during the week since they offer that. Im barley now writing this review after she opened up about why she left. I was also confused on why she never explained but now It all makes since. lets start off with the principal of that year I'm not sure if she still is there, but all I know is that she was African American, my bad. so she was also my daughters teacher. idk if they were short on staff idk and idc anymore. well she was eating in class one day and she told me the table was too. she said it was a small chocolate bar and she ate it real quick, to later be held back after class because she cant sneak food in. now my daughter is the type to stand up for herself and she said she was hungry and why cant she eat a snack its not even distracting. shes told me little small things that the principal would pick and Nick at. like c'mon that's stupid. my daughter got the weirdest vibes from the dorm person the lady who stays with them and like is in charge of that too. I've read reviews on how its a cult it most def is. they over work the children imo . if you didn't know in the afternoon there's no janitors, the children clean aftershool and everytime she came home on the weekends she was sleeping all Saturday and Sunday and would complain how physically exhausted she was. like no janitors cmon also dumb asf. I also read some reviews about gays, yes all true. now idc about all that, but they def allowed and were open to that stuff. my daughter would tell me some stuff that would happen , but not to her. and about teachers crossing boundaries is def true too. my daughter is a nice person shes ok in grades , but shes herself shes talkative. I was shocked when she would come home crying or call me at night from her dorm to pick her up. I know she hasn't told everything, but I'm writing was she has. so I would describe this school as a jail for bad kids that'll straighten them up real quick. don't send your kids if you truly care about them mentally. like I said its a lot. I moved her to public school and cmon y'all js send them somewhere close she was better in public than this hell of a school. also the school was ghetto asffffffff like imma be so fr there was days with no ac and constant stuff that def was a violation if there was an inspection actually matter fact someone call them rn I bet you that school would close down asap. if anyone says anything good about the school they prob were paid or blind and deaf. its a freakinnnnnnnnn cult. I hope my daughter soon opens up about that school more until then all i can say is that the school js wants ur kids to stay but not for the right reasons and whoever graduated there was def forced to. I gave my daughter the choice to leave and she did asap. anywho I wish anyone who's still there a bug good luck and anyone who's also had a horrible experience a sorry as well.
