This pains me to write this review. I've been a Gorant lover my entire life. I grew up in the Youngstown area and this has been the go-to for me. I have loved Gorant so much that my family ships me my favorite chocolate since I live out of state. My favorite is the Gorant French Mint. NOT ANYMORE! They've changed this recipe since new ownership. Not the same balance of mint (hardly noticeable) and the chocolate is just okay not decadent like it used to be. The yum-yums are at least a quarter smaller than they were which is very disappointing. I'm sorry to say that they've lost a loyal, life-long customer. My friend came from Virginia and her first shopping trip was to the Gorant Candy Store. We both bought a lot of Easter Candy. To our great disappointment, we realized that the taste and texture was no longer the same!! Our kids did not even finish their cherished peanut butter/caramel Easter eggs. We confronted the people working there, and we were told, that indeed the chocolate has changed. Wow, we were shocked. We talked to different people about this, and everybody agreed that something was different. We are so sorry but we will no longer shop at the Gorant Candy Store. read more

I've shopped at Gorant for years and always gotten good product. About three or four years ago, I ordered Easter Eggs to be shipped to Arizona. Although I paid in excess of $45 for the candy, the shipment never got there, and I was told I would be reimbursed for the purchase and freight charges. That never happened. After several more years of buying Easter candy there, I started putting it in the freezer until May when our son came home from AZ for a few weeks. It was always perfect. Last year we were in town after our first purchase and decided to take advantage of the after Easter Sale. That was a mistake. We chose several items, were very happy with the prices, and proceeded to be treated very rudely by the checkout girl. We paid, took the candy home and put it in the freezer. When we finally opened that candy a month or so later, it was grainy and gritty and soon found it's place in the garbage. That was the sale (old) product. I've frozen chocolate before and never had that experience. I believe that the "on sale product" must have been in a freezer somewhere since the last Easter, or else it had been on the shelf for years. I never bothered to notify the business because I had kept up a dialog for a couple months about the supposed truck wreck refund or replace of merchandise that never made it to Arizona. That refund never happened or was ever acknowledged again. As a good, faithful customer for YEARS, I can't bring myself to return to your shop after paying for product that never was delivered and buying sale stuff in good faith, only to have it be unedible, while being treated like shit by your nasty little sales girl. read more

Although the chocolate is generally good, this place looks like a Scooby Doo ghost town. Candy cases literally have 50% space in them with just a little piles and trays of chocolate here and there. Most of the store has been taken over with things like dispenser on jellybeans and local popcorn company products. Very very very disappointing. So disappointed with the quality this year. Every year the eggs get smaller yet more expensive. I bought a salted caramel large egg; they had a buy-one-get-one-half-off "sale." When I cut into it today, it was only half-filled with caramel and half hollow. Your candy is outrageously priced for the quantity and quality of the product. I am so sad to say that I may have placed my last order. I have been loving Gorant candy since I was very young. My grandmother used to give me the meltaway egg every year for Easter, and as I got older and moved out of Ohio I continued to order for myself, and then later for my kids. Gorant has always been my favorite chocolate. After the new ownership, many items are no longer available. At Christmas, I was hoping to order the individually wrapped chocolates but they were not available. At Valentine's Day, there was not much of a selection of anything except chocolate covered strawberries. Now at Easter, my favorite foil wrapped eggs, coconut, aren't offered and if I want any of the foil wrapped eggs that are available, I have to buy 6 of the same kind. And I was looking at the Easter basket (only 1 option) to send to my daughter at Miami University but it is $68 for pre-made things that she mostly wouldn't like. I did order a almond meltaway egg but it now comes in only one size and is much more expensive than it was last year. Very disappointed in the selection and in the extremely high prices. Excellent chocolate with wide variety available for Valentines Day. Staff was very helpful and courteous. I'd definitely shop here again.

Loved the chocolate here so much and have for years but i do have a few issues with this store. I enjoyed shopping and looking around but i did think some of the items were over price. Such as the pound of chocolate for $25. It also took long to check out. I do really enjoy the chocolate though! read more

Youngstown born. Love the new store! Love the staff. Best Easter eggs in the world. I wish they were open longer hours but I understand.
