Experienced dental patient, here... This was my 3rd root canal in the last 40 or so years - all associated from one front tooth that broke as a child. I've looked over the images here in yelp and they are exactly what to expect to see when you enter the office. The team is warm and friendly... and Dr Barkley is an amazing provider. His 3 dimensional Xray technology exceeds anything I've ever seen, which is another reason why my dentist suggested a referral to his office. Knowing I was going to need a root canal or an extraction, I was also impressed how quickly his office was able to get me in. The cold (or warm) packs... the essential oils made both of my visits to his office even more comfortable. He prepared me with exactly what to expect about any stick, pressure or pinch. The entire process was seamless, but above all - QUICK. As an anxious patient, I was calm from the moment I entered the place to the time I left. Should you ever need a root canal... or if you need an opinion - this guy is tops. If you are out of town, he's worth the trip. He took the time to listen to me and answer my questions, but also ask what additional questions I had. After my treatment, he called to check on me. Beyond his skill, what doesn't show in any review is his character. I highly recommend Dr. Gordon Barkley for the most pleasant pain free root canal experience any one could ever imagine having! He explained every detail he was doing and what I would possibly feel and for how long, I did not feel any pain ever! I only had to take pain meds the first day! And....The Dr. himself called me the next day to see how I was doing and left me a message to remind me if I had any questions to call him! WOW! He just is simply the best at this and I am grateful Peoria has him! I got an appointment within a week and knew I was lucky because they are a very busy office. I was told he would do the consult and if he can save the tooth with a root canal he would do it then which is again extremely convenient to get it all done in one appointment and that is exactly what happened. The office is the most relaxing atmosphere with perfect music selection! I was so impressed with the details they offer to help patients relax and to feel special. The relaxing fragrances on the paper bib and hot towels to freshen up with afterwards was impressive! Office staff is outstanding with kindness as well. I can not recommend Dr. Barkley enough, I've been bragging nonstop to my friends and family about his care. I left his office feeling genuine care and compassion, a truly uplifting experience. I had a surgery done when I was just 16 and long story short, the dentist really messed up. At 16 I was left looking beaten and bruised, the recovery and bruising were beyond any pain I've ever experience. It left me in pain for nearly ten years with a half missing front tooth still missing. Dr. Barkley signed me up for the same set of procedures and surgeries and he could tell by the look on my face I was mortified. However, he assured me an experience with him would be much more pleasant. I can not believe the difference in his practice. He had me in and out within an hour, I felt no pain, no bruising or swelling occurred after surgery either. He even went above and beyond by surprising me with a fully restored tooth, I have not stopper smiling since my surgery on Tuesday and my friends and family have complimented me endlessly. I live just outside of Peoria Illinois. my general dentist, Dr Burton and staff referred me to Dr Barkley for a root canal and I heard all the great stories Dr Burton's patients told about this super nice endodontic office, of course I was nervous and all worked up when I arrived. Everyone from the second I open their door was so friendly and sincerely concerned about my comfort, immediately I was offered aromatherapy to help calm me, it worked! I felt kind of silly, absolutely nothing to be nervous about! overall great experience, felt like I was among friends, Connie was so reassuring, even held my hand because she knew I was nervous. Anna made me feel comfortable about being nervous. I was so happy my general dentist referred me to Dr Barkley, I believe he is beyond talented. I appreciated the follow up call and was given his cell number in case I felt uncomfortable about anything after my visit. Hearing the dreaded words "You need a root canal," from my dentist was not what I was hoping for. He recommended Dr. Barkley. He and his staff made it easy! I have terrible trouble getting x-rays. So Dr. Barkley held the piece in my mouth where it needed to go so I didn't have to bite down to hold it in place, while the hygienist pushed the button to take the picture. Something that simple made it much easier on me. The added touch of the essential oil spritz to the paper bib and the hot moist cloth to clean your face after the procedure are all part of the "Barkley experience!" He was great about informing me of each step, and continually asked if I was ok. The whole experience was quick and efficient and believe it or not.... pleasant! I highly recommend going to Dr. Barkley. He and his friendly welcoming staff do everything possible to make you comfortable. Two weeks ago I was referred to Dr. Barkley for a tooth abscess and needed a root canal. It was late in the afternoon, his office was closing soon but he agreed to see me that day anyways. Dr. Barkley and his staff kept their office open a couple hours late and drained the abscess and fixed the tooth that day. His staff was very comforting and wonderful. Dr. Barkley was very professional and explained the procedure to me step by step to what he was doing. I went back today for him to finish the root canal. Once again Dr. Barkley and his staff were all wonderful. As a fellow healthcare professional, I can appreciate the way they treat their patients and the knowledge they all have. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing any special dental work. After the numbing was complete, the root canal procedure was completely painless on both occurances. I had to have a root canal rather suddenly and was referred to Dr. Barkley by my dentist. I was in a lot of pain and was very anxious about the procedure. Root canals are one of those things that most people groan about and are so worried of having to do. I can honestly say that Dr. Barkley and staff were amazing. They put me at ease and were so caring through the procedure. Dr. let me know what was going on as he was doing the root canal and was very caring. If you are like me and are reading review after review because you are anxious about a root canal don't be. I 110% recommend Dr. Barkley and staff. I walked out of the office thinking "what was I afraid of?" because the staff and Dr. were so great and the root canal was so easy, just like an extended filling. Dr. Barkley's practice promotes, " patient experience is the heart of our practice . " Well, I just had a root canal done this morning. The experience you will get is absolutely unbelievable. The staff jumps through hoops to comfort and please you. The apron around your neck is scented to a scent you choose. After the procedure you get a warm small towel for your face and hands. Now, that is comfort! When Dr. Barkley is at my side performing the procedure I felt like I was laying in a HOT bath. He is so professional and caring I could of slept through the procedure. No REALLY! Tells you exactly what he is doing inside your mouth. And his hands are SOFT inside your mouth. This man has so much charisma I would have jumped off a bridge, if he wanted me to do so. While I'd like to not add yet another positive review, because the doctor and his team already look pretty busy - ha ha - the truth must be told! At first, I was almost booted out, because my tooth may have been too far gone for a root canal. But I was super glad Dr. Barkley gave me the odds and didn't make the final decision. When I decided to go for it, the ladies who helped out were as pampering and attentive as if it was a day spa, and the endodontist (that's what they're called, right?) was pretty much determined that patients wouldn't feel a moment of pain. Both visits were over in a heartbeat, and I'm alive to tell about them. :o) If you're stuck with a tooth or gum infection or whatever, you won't regret getting it treated here (my family dentist actually wouldn't allow me to go anywhere else!). read more

I am someone who has had a ton to dental work done but HATES every second of it due to anxiety. I can honestly say this office is the best! From the moment I called to schedule an appointment I felt welcomed and cared for. The receptionist and clinical assistants were sweet, helpful, and accommodating. Dr. Barkley was very kind, patient, and understanding of my anxiety and put me at ease. I had a complex issue and called the office twice with questions after my root canal. Both times they got me in the same day for a follow-up and I was not charged a visit fee. I wish this office also offered general dentistry services so that I would never have to go anywhere else! Professional, skilled and empathetic. I was a nervous patient walking in. The staff, especially Jessica, was empathetic and respectful. Dr Barkley was excellent. He always kept me informed what was going on. They continued to take Xrays throughout the process. They have the latest technology. One unexpected extra was a calming aromatherapy option. I chose the rose scent, which gave me a pleasant distraction during the complicated procedure. I was in the chair for less than an hour. Now, 3 hours later, the local anesthetic has worn off, and so far I am not experiencing any pain! So - especially considering the dread I felt beforehand - this experience was made as pleasant as possible by the staff of Barkley Endodontics. read more

We were vacationing in Illinois when my wife was stricken with severe pain in her teeth and jaw. We visited urgent care and a dentist's office, neither of which was able to figure out the problem. Our home dentist in Arizona searched about and found Dr. Barkley in Peoria. It being something of an emergency, Dr. Barkley got us into his office the next day. The office itself was very cozy and calm and Dr. Barkley's staff were far kinder than we had come to expect given the previous dental office we had visited. I just went here for a root canal today and to say it was painless is an understatement!!! I walked in and my first thought was "this place is adorable!" It smelled amazing! Not like a dentist office at all!! The staff was so friendly and made sure I was totally comfortable! Dr. Barkley told me everything he was going to do before he did it. When I was all done they gave me a hot aroma therapy towel to wipe off my face and hands!!! I told them the only thing that would have made it more relaxing was a warm blanket!!! I never thought I would ever say I was relaxed during a root canal, but I was!!! This is a great place!! I will define recommend them to anyone who needs a root canal!!!! read more

I was referred to Dr. Barkley by my dentist for a root canal. I don't do well with dental procedures due to past experiences that were pretty terrible. So I didn't expect this to go well either. But Dr. Barkley and his staff were wonderful. They explained everything that was going to happen before, during and even showed me what they had done after the root canal and they calmed all my fears. He is very skilled and made sure I was comfortable during the procedure. And talking to the staff afterward about follow up care was great. They are very nice. Dr. Barkley and his staff are great! I showed up today very nervous and anxious, as this was my first root canal. The receptionist, Brenda, reassured me eveyeveryt would be fine. She offered me the use of essential oils during my procedure. Morgan, the dental assistant, came and got me. She took some x-rays of the area. She was very reassuring as well. Dr. Barkley then came in. He talked me through any concerns I had. He then started the procedure and told me about each step. I DID NOT FEEL A THING! I was very surprised! I was referred to Dr. Barkley for a root canal two weeks after my dentist set a crown. I was hurting for those two weeks. Anyway, Dr. Barkley was very kind and efficient and the numbing I got had to go in the roof of my mouth....not fun. BUT he did it well and hardly hurt at all. Just felt pressure. He was very reassuring and told me to let him know if I felt any pain during the procedure. The staff is very friendly, kind and concerned. I was given Dr. Barkley's personal phone number if I needed help after hours. If I had any teeth left that needed root canals, I would go back to Dr. Barkley hands down! read more

When it comes to anything dental I am a ball of nerves, mainly because all my past experiences were pretty bad. Although, when I walked into his office, I was immediately greeted by the nicest receptionists who had the utmost faith that Dr. Barkley would do a great job and that I had nothing to worry about. I was referred to Dr. Barkley's office for a root canal by my regular dentist. Great referral. Dr. Barkley and his staff were so professional and competent. The modern touches and equipment gave me an instant feeling of confidence in the work to come and I was not disappointed. After my session the pain was gone instantly, the numbness wore off later that day and I was back to eating pain free the next day.
