I was visiting from out of town and was curious about the surrounding area near where I was lodging. I stumbled upon this and decided to check it out starting from the top of Glen Trail (a pretty easy walk), then crossing the street and walking down to the dam. I'm sure it is much more scenic during literally any other season than winter since there was overcast and the river was literally grey, but walking around was really relaxing, especially if you enjoy looking at the rock formations along the path. When you reach the dam, there's a little info on the types of rocks that make up Cuyahoga Falls as well as history about the dam. I didn't have time to venture past the dam, but I imagine the trails were just as well kept and easy to follow as the ones I traveled on.

My husband and I spent the day in this metro park and it did not disappoint! We first hiked the 1.9 mile, out-and-back Glen Trail, which provided a colorful fall view of the Cuyahoga River on one side and splendid sandstone rock formations on the other. The trail is hard packed soil and gets quite narrow at times. One must watch their footing as there are tree roots and numerous large rocks on the path. There are several boardwalk areas built around rock formations and over rocky areas that would otherwise be impassable. I would rate this trail as moderate due to navigating the rocks in places. Due to some steep drop-offs I do not feel this would be good hike for children. There is a paved parking area for this trail and 2 others. Once parked, look across the street, that is where the trailhead is located. We also walked the 0.6 mile Overlook Trail loop. This trailhead is located in a paved parking area, and the flat, paved trail is an easy walk that ends at a board-walk-type observation deck. This trail would be considered wheel-chair friendly. The view of Cuyahoga Valley and River from the observation deck is spectacular. Both trails have beautifully-maintained bathroom facilities and doggie stations that provide 'Mutt-Mitts' for picking up your dog's waste. Dogs are welcome if leashed. Be sure to check before arranging your hikes, as some trails in the park system are not dog friendly!

Beautiful, scenic and captivating describes this place very well. I came here while I was on vacation. All in all, this place is definitely not a long route but there's definitely alot of great things to see for the low low price of FREE! well maintained boardwalks, a fancy scenic exit to the residential area too! More trails nearby that'll keep you walking along the Cuyahoga River for hours to come. Definitely reccomend!

Tony and I visited Gorge Metro Park in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on Saturday June 22nd. The park was free to enjoy. We took the path to Mary Campbell Cave and then went to the Dam Path to see the waterfall.

Nice clean trails. The parking lot was good size and had a few picnic tables, but the garbage cans were locked.

I've only done the Gorges Trail, but it has always been a pleasant little hike. It's about 2 miles roundtrip and along the Cuyahoga River. You'll see the old damn and Mary Campbell Cave. There's a lower and upper section and I would say all of it was relatively easy to hike, but it depends on your fitness and experience level. The paths can be clear or primitive.

This is a review of the Highbridge Trail, Gorge Metro Park. A stunning pic of an overlook on Natural Ohio's Instagram page attracted me to this trail. What Natural Ohio forgot to tell it's Instagram followers is that the place from which the picture was taken is not accessible, at least legally accessible, from the trail. So you can imagine how disappointed I was when I got to the spot on the trail where I was supposed to ascend to get an amazing overlook view of the valley. Not only was I disappointed by the inaccessibility of overlook, no fault to the Gorge Metro Park, but I was also disappointed by the trail. The path of the trail follows the path of rustic power lines that, for me, are an eye soar. Add the gravel path to the power lines and it feels like I was walking along a service road, not in a park. If that wasn't enough, there was an unpleasant smell coming from something nearby (the Cuyahoga River, a skunk, trash? I don't know). Unpleasant visuals and smells put a damper on my park experience. I think the worst park is how the sounds of the Cuyahoga River tempt you from the trail saying, "It's beautiful down hear. The gentle, rustling water is peaceful." The only saving grace to the Highbridge Trail is the shaded trail you can descend to via 100 wooded steps. The vibrant greens of the trees and the sound of the river and birds experienced along this short trail made the 3 mile hike better than horrible.

Great stop on the way from Pittsburgh to Cleveland. I was surprised by the dam flow. The trails are beautiful with the fall leaves and well maintained. We also hiked the Glen trail which is along the river and had nice views and interesting rock structures.

My family has lived in West Akron for nearly 9 year and have only recently started spending time in the Metro Parks. The Gorge trail is a great, easy hike with great views of rock, water and nature. The picnic areas are clean and inviting, too, although we haven't used them ourselves. I highly recommend spending a weekend afternoon checking this little gem out.

I love the gorge! The only thing I'd say is that there's a lot parts blocked off, maybe for a safety hazard; but for me I'm the type of person who likes to explore and get lost on my own adventure. The gorge is beautiful.

I went all the time as a kid and still remember it 18 years later. Real impactful stuff for kids to learn and experience true nature!

Pollinators (bees, butterflies, moths, etc) are an essential part of the ecosystem. They allow native plants to survive and are important in food crop production. To help fight the decline in pollinators, Cuyahoga Falls planted this butterfly garden at the entrance of High Bridge Glens Park. It has a cute, butterfly themed rod iron entryway. Again, this garden is small, but if you catch it in bloom, I imagine it's magical. I did spot a baby monarch and that made me so happy! I loved the two signs on the property explaining what types of butterflies and flowers you might see. This would be a wonderful place to bring kids and help instill an appreciation for protecting nature. However, because this spot is small, keep that in mind during the pandemic, as it's not a space I'd care to share with anyone at all. I want to live in a world where our pollinators, particularly bees and butterflies, aren't at such a high risk of extinction. Great job to the City of Cuyahoga Falls!

There is no charge to get in. The paved road around the lake has been split into a one-way driving/biking road and a with an adjacent walking lane. There is a Hike/bike trail called The Freedom Trail that borders this park. Metro Parks Summit County is going to add a connector trail between them in 2026. The Freedom Trail in this area is a rail trail, so it is pretty flat. There is an area called Tallmadge Meadows that to me is a separate park, because the two areas have very different prior ownership and history, but Metro Parks considers them to be the same park. The parking for Tallmadge Meadows is right around the corner from South River Rd. on South Main St. (Rt 91). There is also a trailhead in Munroe Falls for the Summit County Bike and Hike Trail. It is about a ¼ mile North of South River Rd and runs along the Cuyahoga River. I used to be a Firefighter/EMT in Munroe Falls and it was not unusual for us to get called out to the "Metro Park" and have to ask, "which one"? All 3 of these are great parks and I consider myself luck to live in between them.
