This park was well rated with a perfect prior to my tour at Castle Noel. . Summit Metro Parks; were clean, scenic and well maintained . Trail markers , paved trails, even a bi monthly quaterly magazine, listing all sorts of events. This was my first visit to an Ohio park to explore, and will defintly check out other locations in the near future. The vistor center staff were friendly ; the center itself was marvelous with variety of things to explore,the tree exhibit, the bird feeding area, kids area , turtles and the akorn gift shop. The gift shop shaped in a Maple leaf, in my opinion was genuis , simple addition to center for kids and nature lovers. Fall will be approaching soon; be sure to hike and enjoy the beauty of nature with exercise and fresh air. read more

Its beautiful here. The animals even feel safe enough to come up to you when ur sitting on the ground relaxing. Its interesting, i walked past a rabbit and it didn't run it just kept eating its grass as i was walking past it to head to the entrance to go home. Beautiful park. The visitor center is big and cozy with a variety of displays including live or mounted animals. There's even checkers/chess. There are three paths along ponds and streams, and a bridge over a ravine. One of the paths connects to a trail from a neighboring park. There's a garden with a pretty fountain. Lots of wild irises growing along the trail, too. Lots to see and do. read more

We love this little park. We visit in every Season to see the changing foliage. We especially enjoy the summer and spring when the herb garden begins to grow. The waterfall and pond can be meditative. This little park has both paved and unpaved wooded paths for all ages and capabilities. The Visitor Center's staff are always pleasant. John and I both love Summit County Park System and frequent it often along with a Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area. read more

Beautiful park! We saw a bunch of folks feeling birds and squirrels. Seemed like locals knew to bring bird seed. A nice gentleman gave us some and the birds ate right out of our hands. We saw a ton a families enjoying the wildlife and outdoors. Everything was clean and very well maintained. We went for a bit of a hike and everything was so pretty and peaceful. The folks inside the visitors center were very friendly. There are cool exhibits inside, even for adults to check out. Glad we stopped here! read more

I've loved this place since I was under 7 years old. I visited here first on a field trip and 20 years later, I have been visiting every year. This place is very well managed, and it feels like a sanctuary for all animals. Snakes, deer, chipmunks, birds galore. I love it! read more

The Nature Realm is one of Summit County's hidden gems. Tucked away on the top of the Smith Road hill, this park is a perfect place to get away and enjoy nature at its best. The park features: several hiking trails, a couple of ponds, a suspension bridge that takes you over a ravine, some really unique weeping bushes, an herb garden, plenty of picnic benches, modern bathrooms, and to top it off - an underground indoor nature center. Although I believe the nature center is closed on Mondays. This is a perfect place to take a date, or your kids. You'll find a lot of people who come here like to feed the Chickadees. If you're not familiar with the concept, bring some bird food (sunflower seeds) with you to the park, stand near some shrubs and hold out your hand, Chickadees will actually land on your and take the food. It's a really cool experience if you've never tried it. Don't worry about them pooping on you, I've fed well over a 1,000 birds and it's never happened. One thing that does annoy me sometimes is the joggers. There are PLENTY of other places to go jogging at, Sand Run Park is 5 minutes away, go there to jog. The nature realm is meant for people to unwind and experience nature at its best. Joggers seem to scare off a lot of the wild life. If you do come here, try visiting when it's not busy. I did that a few weeks ago and I came across a family of turkeys! It was pretty cool. Other visits I got to see up close an owl, a hawk, mallards, and a beaver. If you're not familiar with the nature realm but you like the outdoors, definitely make it a point to come here sometime! read more

This is such a hidden oasis. I come here with my son to feed birds. You will not be disappointed when you come! So many little trails that take you around, the nature center is pretty cool, and the scenery is gorgeous. I know they have guides that will take you around to feed birds, but we just bring our own little bag and wait patiently for them. When you're finished, DO NOT THROW YOUR EXTRA SEED ON THE GROUND! The seeds could end up rotting before an animal picks it up and they may get sick. They do also have a bin for left over seed on the way back through the trails. read more

One of my favorite places to take a walk through nature. They aren't open just yet but I've been inside before. Definitely worth taking your kids to see the reptile exhibit along with the area to bird watch. I love the store where you can buy almost anything nature related. My mom loved the cardinal socks I bought her from here. If you've never been I highly recommend going. read more

F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm is an absolute DELIGHT! Yet another hidden gem tucked away in Akron! Located at 1828 Smith road just off of W Market St. this beautiful park has much much much to offer. A little history shall we.... F.A Seiberling helped form the Akron Metropolitan Park District and was a member of the Board Of Park Commissioners. Seiberling donated more than 400 acres to expand Sand Run, in 1964 Summit Metro Parks bought land owned by Seiberling and bingo bango, we got ourselves The Nature Realm! One of the first things you'll see at the park is the 10,000 square foot renovated visitors center. The center is an awesome place that my kids have enjoyed countless times! The center has live native animals(snakes included),seasonal exhibits, a kids area, a gift shop AND there's a naturalist on duty to answer any questions you may have. Out behind the center is a beautiful covered outdoor fireplace with a deck overlooking Seneca Pond. Next to the center is a herb and rock garden with plants and herbs that have identification so you can sound like a genuine botanical genius when your kids ask "what's that dad"? Then ask again and again and again( you know the routine). The park has 3 trails with ratings from 1-2 so no excuses people! you can walk em all, besides, why in the world would you not want to see all the beautiful amenities this park has waiting for you! There is seating scattered throughout the park so you can sit down and just take it all in or talk about that really cool Great Blue Heron that just landed by the pond! The park is 104 acres so take your time and enjoy it! Don't be surprised if you see a deer or two, we have seen many deer here and they don't seem to mind people. Cheers! read more

As far as parks go, the Nature Realm is 5 stars. It's well preserved, beautiful, and I honestly can't believe it's free since there's so much to see. You can go there for a short hike, peaceful walk, or view the flora, fresh herbs, and small wildlife that call this little area home. It truly is a hidden gem and a reason to come to Akron. Even if you have a friend that's not really into nature, the degree to which it's been preserved I'd even call it nature "lite". There's park benches and areas for small groups to sit together. This is one of my favorite parks to visit. I've been going there since I was a child, and continue to go now as an adult. I love feeding the chickadees, you can bring in your own seed or buy some at the nature realm center for only 50 cents. Stand still with seed in your hand and they'll come up to you. The center is really kid friendly, very educational. The trails are beautiful, I love going to echo pond and sitting on the deck. Hands down one of my favorite places of all times. read more

I can see that the Nature Realm has a lot to offer people who have good walking ability. For those of us who don't, just getting to the visitor center from the parking lot is a bit of a challenge. I stopped today to see their window on wildlife where there are bird feeders outside the window. I have a suggestion, though. With all the lighted displays on the opposite wall, watching the birds or trying to photograph them is a challenge because of all the reflections on the window. read more

We took my mother, 22 month old and myself along w my husband. Great time! We fed the wild chickadees which was pretty amazing. Make sure to sit on the bench that's tucked away by the pond. We had plenty of birds come eat seed out of our hand along w quite a few chipmunks. We all enjoyed ourselves and didn't even get to see 1/3 of the park. Will definitely be back when we visit Ohio. Plus everyone from the workers to other visitors were quite friendly. read more

If you can work about the odd hours, definitely stop in if you have any interest in the outdoors. The volunteers and staff are very friendly and eager to share the multitude of programs the park offers, or just take a hike on one of the easy-going trails (through the Seneca trail, you can access Sand Run Metro Park if you want more of a challenge). read more
