Brother had surgery here and no one knew what the other was doing and was little help with thinking through recovery. The security guards who do the "information" know nothing about the hospital! One guard was on her phone and wasn't helpful at all. One of the entrances closes at 5 pm and the sign says to go through the emergency room entrance. When I did, I had another guard tell me that it's the front entrance and the sign needs to be updated! As a primary caregiver, I felt ill-prepared to take care of my brother. Not many of my questions were answered! I left with more than I brought. Don't get me started on the food! I got better food from my elementary cafeteria. No one should have to eat like that! Get your stuff together!

They put her in a wheelchair, gave her oxygen and put her back in the waiting area for several more hours, then she was taken to an ER exam room with only an uncomfortable exam table in it and left until 5 am the next morning. It took numerous nurses MANY tries to get an IV started so they could do the CAT Scan and finally around 8 pm she got the scan done. By the time I had to go home there were no results and no word on when she would get a room. I returned to the ER at around 7:30 am and she was still in the ER, but had been finally put in a more comfortable bed. They had not fed her even though we told them she had not eaten anything, upon my return at 7:30 I brought her a chicken sandwich otherwise she still would not have eaten anything but a cold turkey sandwich. She had nothing to drink until I requested it and had not been given meds she needed. I left at 10 am to get some clothes for her and she was still in the ER with no estimate of when she would get a room. When I asked, they just told me when a room was available it would pop up on the computer, but they had no idea how much longer it would be and could not or would not check. It is my understanding there are 30 exam rooms in the ER, and this hospital has about 350 beds but due to staffing issues they are not all available. Unfortunately, the patients are the ones who pay for the shortage. I must update this review. Although it took way too long, once my wife got a room, the treatment and staff greatly improved. They were able to find the correct diagnosis that other doctors missed and now hopefully she will get the help she desperately needs. I will do further updates if necessary. Thank you to the floor personnel.

My husband was a patient at Duke Medical Center 2018 -2020 for liver disease-He was very sick ,and…read moredeveloped malnutrition ,but only scheduled to see his Dr there a Hepatologist,every six months - -Which was way too long between visits we felt as sick as he was-Later in his illness it was changed to Three months-During this time he started bleeding rectally and after further tests was found to have a recital ulcer-The bleeding continued ,and he was told by a radiologist at Duke following scan and x rays for this that he needed to see a surgeon-His Dr at Duke -Dr Carl Berg scheduled him a surgical visit, but it was scheduled weeks away-In the meantime ,he was getting worse ,and by the time he finally was close to seeing the surgeon ,it was too late -He never made it to the surgeons office-He became sicker at home-I had to call 911 as he developed very high fever during the night - He was admitted to our local hospital-& had infection in his blood-He had developed osteomyelitis (infection in his pelvis bone) and sepsis , in his blood-From the rectal ulcer found months and months before-He died a few weeks later at home under hospice care-I cannot help but think the Dr at Duke who was treating him is responsible for this in some way by not taking care of this early on! Drs at Duke Med are very capable, but have extremely too many patients and don't see them often enough to even know them-I'll never go back there -Just my opinion -We went there to have the best care ,but we never got it-
