In addition to these core benefits, Kumon has had many other satellite or "meta" benefits. For instance, the passages my daughter read in Kumon higher level reading exposed her to many interesting subjects outside of academics. Regular practice of the Kumon method also helped her develop singleminded focus upon the task/subject at hand. She does not speak English at all so she was told to take the first level for students like her. We spent about $1150 which included 6 books they asked us to buy. This is what happened My girlfriend said the instructor spent hours talking and that she only used 2 out of the six books they told us to buy, she was stressed out and frustrated the entire 6 weeks, that is not teaching, that is not what I paid for. We reached out to the owner and he told me that she was not a kid that could speak for herself, unfortunately she does not speak the language yet thus she asked me to assist her, I did but it seems as though he ignored us. In sum, we have asked in both languages to get a 50% refund and so far the owner ignores the request. My girlfriend said they told her the owner offered for her to retake the course at no charge, that in itself implies they acknowledged that something went wrong. She said there was no way she will go through that bad experience again. Perhaps their method is very good, seems like the instructor did not follow it. It's been a year now that Olivia is enrolled under the direct supervision of Ms. Swain. We get monthly feedbacks both from instructor and Director herself. I haven't seen anyone committed to education and business as much as Ms. Swain. She wears a proud head on her shoulders and works zealously on every kid enrolled at her center. She knows the progress and pitfalls of every single kid at the back of her hand proving her commitment to her students. She arranges personal or telephonic meetings with parents constantly as per their convenience and remains on top of it. I have seen a tremendous change in my kid academically and Olivia is way ahead of her peers, in fact, two grade levels higher precisely. Anyone can argue that it's about the structure of Kumon program and the worksheets that help attain target, but in reality, but it takes dedication to make the child excel and widen their horizon on an individual scale, which is delivered at Westchase center. When the worksheets get monotonous, they introduce board games, sight word bingo, and other accessories to achieve targets. The teacher selection at Westchase center is unparalleled. They exactly know when to pamper and when to tighten the reigns. The Kumon program is excellent, so is the administration at Kumon Westchase. So i started looking at other businesses in my area that I had experience with. I usually only post reviews if the service was stellar or horrible. I saw that Sugar Creek Montessori had a really bad score. So I'm thinking, "yep! They're still horrible!" I took my daughter to that location when she was 4 years old. She's in college now so it was a very long time ago. I decided to share my very low opinion of this location. My previous review endorsed the 1-2 star rating they currently have. When I took my Daughter to this location we had a horrible experience & we were charged over $150 for 15 minutes of their time. I told the administrators that we would not be attending classes there within 10 minutes of arrival. In my opinion the school was unorganized, dirty, & they were more interested in filling the roster than helping understand what would benefit our family & my daughter's education. I posted that they kept my supply fee (which they absolutely did) for classes that we did not attend. Our experience was a one star or negative star experience. A few days after my post I was contacted by their admin office so that they could research my financial claim & refund our money. I was a little miffed at first because now that we have wonderful platforms to share our experiences (good & bad) NOW they will refund my money that never should've been kept in the first place? Very convenient. After several messages back & forth we are at an impasse & it's clear this is not the same owner that kept our money & supply fee for services not rendered & for classes my daughter did not attend. I now have the financial support provided by current SC Montessori management to go back to our bank & investígate if the records they have are correct or if they were falsified. So my review is this: This location has had and still has a very rough road ahead of them trying to correct the previous owner neglect & bad business practices. I believe in second chances. If my daughter still needed a preschool or if I had a very intelligent 4 year old, I would definitely try this Montessory location again. We originally tried this location because my daughter was very advanced & was ready for Kindergarten. Unfortunately with the public school rule about September birthdays it makes it very difficult to place your children in an environment that they can continue to learn, be challenged, & eventually skip a grade so they can re-join their friends in your zoned elementary school at a later date. I attended Montessori when I was younger & loved it. I have many fond memories of time there. I suggested the new owners place a sign at their location saying, "under new management" or reach out to local Mom's Clubs because it is very hard to overcome the type of damage the previous owners created. I suggest trying this location especially if you're interested in eventually having your child skip a grade. When I complete the research with our bank and confirm the previous owners did not keep over $200 of our money for services not received I will update this review & hopefully be able to sing the praises of the current owners trying to correct past indiscretions. If nothing else they did spend a lot of time going through our history to try & find the errors. I wish there was a 2 1/2 star because right now we're still on the fence with this business.
