At Grace Harbor, our daughter went for a little over 2 years and son for 6 months. This review comes after careful consideration with respect the school and church. We have seen changes with leadership, communication, policies, teachers, and general day-to-day flow. There are great teachers who you know truly care, love, nurture, protect, advocate, and educate a child about Christ's love! Even if you're not a believer, the teacher's actions will radiate Him. Childcare is neither easy nor cheap. Shepherding a child, no matter what age, takes a person's time, mind, hand, and resources. A parent should truly make a sound decision, with that as a backdrop, prior to enrolling anywhere. Please do your due diligence and explore other schools to find the right fit for you and your family. I pray for Grace Harbor to excel and serve the community even if drastic changes need to be made. Grace Harbor has been such a blessing for our family. It has truly been the best place for our son. He is always excited to go to daycare and absolutely adores his teachers. If you are looking for true fellowship and a place to call your home church, then Grace Harbor is the church for you :) I have nothing to say about the school portion of the church, as my daughter neve attended. But as far as the church portion goes, we really loved attending here :) We were treated like family and to this day I am still friends with many of the members we met there :) I see pastor Fred from time to time at our Chiropractor and he ALWAYS gives us the biggest and best hugs :) I was sad to have moved out of the area for a while, which was the reason for our leaving the church. I am still on the church prayer email list and am happy to be able to "Attend" online when I am able to :) The church services themselves are smaller (less then 150) so it really feels like family and you don't get "lost in the crowd". read more

I am so happy that we found Grace Harbor Church and School! It has been a blessing! Everyone is like family! They are warm, caring, and considerate individuals. When our son was an infant he went to a much pricier, commercial daycare. The director treated our child without compassion. It was horrible. I wish we would have found Grace Harbor sooner. My son came to Grace Harbor early in Elementary school and I was worried because he had learning issues and Speech issues and My son was already years Behind the other students...., But by the Grace of God and Amazing Teachers and Smaller Class sizes Grace Harbor Not only brought my son up to his current Grade level, but they showed him just what he was capable of and Just what he could do. My Boy went on to High School as an A-B student (when he wasn't being Lazy Like all Teens LOL), and is now Graduating Community Collage with his AA, and was given a Transfer to Cal-State for his Bachelors/Masters Degree. I honestly Do not know how different his life would be if he was thrown into Public Elementary School, how lost in the shuffle he would have gotten.. My son has been enrolled at Grace Harbor Church and School since kindergarten. He is now in second grade and couldn't be happier!! He has a diagnose of Autism. When he first started Kindergarten here, he was non-verbal and not willing to social. With the help of his teachers and friends (the children here are just as Amazing as the school), he has made huge progress in his learning, and is now talking and interacting with his friends. He is just a happy little boy there! Everyday we are so grateful for this wonderful school!! Grace Harbor Church and School is a small school yet has a lot to offer. The loving Christian environment, very small class size (my son's class currently has only 5 students, thus a lot of 1:1 attention), affordable tuition (cost less than CDC), PE and Spanish class, interesting STEAM programs, and homework assistance after school. This is our Home away from Home. My children absolutely love Grace Harbor!!! Their staff takes wonderful care of all the children as if they were their own. I have one child in Preschool and another child in Elementary School here and neither one of them want to leave when I pick them up. As far as the Preschool goes, my son has been here since he was an infant and he is now in the Pre-K class. They offer 2 snacks, morning and afternoon. Their nap is about an hour and a half, but my son doesn't always sleep so he can lay on his mat for quiet time. By the way, mats are new and clean. The Preschool teachers are very loving and structured, but flexible when needed. They offer a variety of educational materials as well as crafts and fun day such as crazy hair day. As far as the Elementary goes, I can't say enough good things about their program. My daughter has been here since Preschool and has gone through K, 1st and 2nd Grade here. This school really has it all! School is from 8:30am to 3:00pm and there are no minimum days. Grace Harbor offers more educational days than the TUSD, that's right... no furlough days over here! After school homework lab is available. Class sizes are small and manageable, perfect for my child's needs. Tuition is VERY inexpensive and the Elementary School is about equivalent to what you would pay for after school care. Don't pass by this school without taking a tour! Came specifically to visit pastor Fred & Dawn Snider, my former youth pastors and mentors. So you're probably think my review is bias. But honestly, this is what I experienced. My worship experience was rich and deep. The people were incredibly friendly. The fellowship was sweet and sincere which is obviously a reflection of the shepherds. My husband and I absolutely love it at Grace Harbor. We came across this school because it's close to our home and we read a lot of really good reviews on their page. My son just wrapped up his first year there and is attending summer camp this year. He's made a lot of friends and the staff is absolutely wonderful! Horrible customer service. I called today 11/8/17 at 12:50pm, and "Mariah" answered. I explained to her that I had called last week to get information on their preschool program. The woman that had answered the phone stated that the director would call me with the information. However, she never called. Not only was "Mariah" rude and unprofessional, but she sounded like a 14 or 15 year old. Her speech was slurred and every other word was "um". Grace Harbor Church and School is a small, Christian school that really cares about the kids. All of the kids are greeted by name in the morning. Due to the small class size, the kids really get great 1:1 attention. They offer Spanish, Music, Steam, PE and homework lab ( a time for those kids that stay for after school care can complete their homework and can get additional help if needed. All of this is provided for about the same as you would pay for CDC for just the afterneed care. Also, the kids normally test higher in the standardized testing than the norm in most, if not all, subjects. My son is now in 3rd grade and has been here since he was 2 1/2 years old. read more

With careful consideration and constant searching of prominent "Christ Centered" Preschools, my children have been attending GHCS for over a year now and our family is extremely satisfied with our decision. The teachers, school administrators, aides and staff are very knowledgeable in early childhood development. The staff knows every parent and caters to every childs individual developmental and educational structural needs. Both of my children excelled greatly in the first few months of attending and it's all because of the dedicated and hardworking teachers. The staff believes in strong transparency and proper parent/teacher communication. Parents are constantly notified of behavioral challenges, accomplishments of their child, upcoming events to volunteer and participate in and are given day to day reports of each child's progress. There has NEVER been a time where my concerns haven't been taken seriously or the staff didn't take into consideration. The school is truly founded on LOVE for the children and the well being of their education. I am always impressed with the material my child is learning, far beyond and advanced than other ordinary preschools. Like most children, my littlest took some time to warm up since the environment was new to her. She had a hard time with drop offs, but the teachers always made her feel comfortable. Now, at morning drop offs, my children don't even look back at me and tackle their teachers with great big hugs. ALL of the teachers take the time to get to know EVERY child and EVERY parent. We LOVE and APPRECIATE the staff at GHCS for all they do for our family. We are nothing but pleased and thankful to have found such a wonderful school and church! read more

If I could give this 0 stars, I would. My 4 year old daughter began her attendance at Grace Harbor on June 18th, 2018 for the summer camp/ TK program. From the first day of school on, there had been several issues. Danielle (director assistant) failed to be present the day she and I scheduled an appointment to drop off the completed registration packet. I was told she would give me a call regarding the next steps after the registration packet was turned in - she failed to do so. When we arrived on the first day of school, Danielle was alarmed by us being there as she did not remember who we were, did not know what class my daughter would be in, and didn't even remember her name. In addition, I had issues with the finance department for Danielle's lack of communication, lapse of memory and disorganization. They forgot to charge me the initial $215 tuition for the first week my daughter attended Grace Harbor and decided to withdraw the funds on a Wednesday without my consent. 8th day in, on Thursday June 28th, 2018 I received a phone call from Danielle. She advised my daughter INTENTIONALLY poured water on a brand new 2 month old computer. She went on to say it was destruction of property and the director of Grace Harbor would be giving me a call in regards to any repercussions we would face. Of course I had several questions, questions she didn't seem to know the answer to until I picked up my daughter and Ms. Jennifer filled me in. Ms. Jennifer informed me she had gone on her break and a male teacher was covering for her, supervising the students. My daughter asked for water, this male teacher had filled up my daughter's water bottle and gave it to her to drink. I do not understand why our four-year-old toddler was given water from this male teacher when an electronic device was in her possession. This could have been prevented as accidents do happen. When we asked Ms. Jennifer who witnessed this incident she advised it was a student sitting next to her. Where was this male teacher when this took place? In addition, if this computer was plugged in one of the students, my daughter or that student sitting next to her, could have been electrocuted. This could have ended tragically and Grace Harbor Christian School's reputation of being open since 1980 would have come to end. Lastly, being a private school where electronic devices are being used for educational purposes and having many infants, toddlers and young children present, I do believe it is imperative all devices should have had a protective cover as incidents of this nature may arise. I received a contradicting upsetting letter from the director Ms. Downing at Grace Harbor that stated "We at Grace Harbor understand that accidents happen and children have big feelings and share those feelings differently." It then goes on to state, "As per our handbook, we do take any destruction of property seriously and hope to come together as a team to ensure an incident such as this will not happen again." How is it destruction of property if one, it was an accident and two, it happened due to lack of common sense and lack of supervision. I immediately pulled my daughter out of Grace Harbor due to negligence, carelessness, disorganization, lapse of memory, lack of knowledge, lack of attention to details and lack of supervision. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO GRACE HARBOR CHRISTIAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL. read more

This is an amazing school that puts the needs of the child first. The small class sizes, dedicated teaching staff and excellent scholastic program ensure that my kids are reaching their full potential. Both of my kids have been here since they were 6 months old and the oldest is now finishing 2nd grade. They both absolutely love this school and most days don't even want to leave when I come to pick up. We are so grateful to have found Grace Harbor. Our daughter has been at Grace for over a year and I cannot say enough about the staff, the program and the partnership with the church that they have. When we started our littlest in preschool it was an adjustment. She dramatically cried every day at drop off for months. Everyone accepted the challenge so graciously and made amazing efforts to help her transition to a drop off with no tears and sobbing. My older son attended an amazing Christian based school that we absolutely loved but sadly the school he attended closed down and when it was time to send our younger son to preschool we knew we had to find a school with a similar foundation and philosophy, it was a tough search and we looked at a number of schools and then we found Grace Harbor Christian school. My younger son has now been coming here since he was 2 and sadly this is our last year. We love this school, it is warm and welcoming and you feel like everyone knows not just your child but your family as a whole. The Director Christine has been an absolutely breath of fresh air, the school is more organized and I love that she communicates everything that is going on in the school with the parents on a regular basis, she has an open door policy and is happy to sit down and discuss any thoughts. concerns or ideas you might have and treats every family with warmth and kindness, I feel like she truly has had my child's best interest at heart. I would highly recommend this school to anyone who is looking for a place for their child, you will be happy knowing you are leaving your child in the capable hands of a great Director who has built an amazing team of teachers and carers to take care of our babies. My son went to Grace Harbor School for 6 years . The staff is great they care for your kids like their own. I like the small class size it helps create that one and aspect. And it helps the kids out in their curriculum. The Administration as well as the teachers communicate with parents on daily basis. I loved that he got to Chapel once a week. Now that my son is a Senior in High School, my grandson now attends the preschool. I would have not chosen any other school for him. This school may be small, but theirs lot's of love and caring. After not being able to enroll our kids late in the school year at other places, we enrolled our daughter and son here in April 2016. The place was outdated, but otherwise ok. Staff and the director all seemed very nice and eager to help. They were to start Monday (April 11), but got sick over the weekend and didn't start until April 14, 2016 (Thursday). Everything was fine until the following Tuesday (April 19). I went to pick up our kids late afternoon and was told our son (3yr) wasn't acting right all day, didn't want to play and complained of stomach pain. The teacher said there was no fever. I picked him up since he was in so much pain. When we got home, I took his temperature and there WAS a fever. We asked him if the teacher checked his temperature with a thermometer and he said no. Our daughter then told us that he wouldn't play all day only laid down on the bench during recess. She even said that other kids saw him laying down and tried to sit on his head for fun and he didn't do anything, so she had to tell them to stop. This alarmed us, as this is definitely not typical behavior for any kid, nor was it even close to the school's description of "not acting right". When we dropped him off, he was seemingly fine, but when we picked him up, his health had declined tremendously, with a fever, stomach ache and didn't want to be touched. We knew something wasn't right and wanted to take him to urgent care or the emergency room, but he didn't want to go, saying that he just needed to use the bathroom. After going to the bathroom, we didn't see any usual sign of a stomach virus but noticed that he had pain walking and urinating. Our plan was to take him to his pediatrician the following day. We tended to him all night and saw him restlessly asleep in pain. At around 5 AM, he finally said he wanted to see the doctor (what 3-year old wants to see the doctor!!!???). We rushed to CHOC and after speaking to the front desk, they rushed him to the rear, took his vitals, and drew his blood and then the doctor examined him. The doctor suspected appendicitis and after receiving the lab results indicating that his WBC numbers were almost twice of someone having appendicitis, he suspected that it had ruptured. After hearing my account of our son's prior day, he agreed that there is no way that any experienced daycare would not have called us. After being admitted and many inconclusive tests, the surgical team decided to operate to determine what was causing the infection. It turned out to be a mesenteric cyst (very rare stomach tumor). I contacted the school to let them know that our son would not be returning for some time as he is in the hospital. I also spoke to one of the staff (as the director wasn't available) and asked why we were not called when they observed that our child was not exhibiting typical behavior (this is what is stated in the handbook). She responded that she did not know why and that she wasn't aware THAT was one of the items listed! I told her that I want her relay my message to the director and that I want to know that they are doing something to ensure their own staff follows their procedures so that no other child would suffer longer than necessary. She said that she would relay the message and that Christine would follow up with me. I didn't hear back for a week so I called again. The director's response was that she never got the message to follow up with us on their procedures. All the while, she never admitted fault for the school, only said that she was sorry our son had to go through this and she understands our pain and being upset as it's natural. She said that our son hadn't been with them long enough for them to decide that it wasn't normal behavior. REALLY? Had they called us early in the day, we would have taken him to his pediatrician, who would have sent us to the ER. Instead, they kept him all day and didn't tell us the full story of how he was behaving and how his health deteriorated throughout the day. THEY DIDN'T FOLLOW THEIR OWN GUIDELINES! No way we were sending our kids back there again. After speaking with their billing person, she indicated that she was very sorry to hear that, but they needed 2-weeks' notice! I explained that they were only there for 4 days and the issue with their policy. She said she would bring it up with their committee and get back to us. She called back and said that the school would wave 1 week of pay for our son, but our daughter would have pay the full 2 weeks. So we attended 4 days of school for $1500, but it's not about the money. If it were, we would have sought counsel and taken legal action (in fact, there was a line of lawyers waiting for us). It's about trust for those in charge of the well being of our kids. read more

My daughter went to Grace Harbor for many years and she excelled. The staff is caring and she got the personal attention she needed. I continue to volunteer there to help out because I love the atmosphere so I can attest the care and attention is still present. When she went on to middle school she was ahead in most subjects due to the great education she got at Grace Harbor. The school may be small, but they have big hearts. I recently enrolled my son here because it had Great reviews. My family and I were moving from another town and needed to find a place for my son. My mother actually toured for us and thought it would be a great supportive school. We explained that our son was speech delayed and on the smaller side. We do not expect him to be treated any differently but it does take extra patience to figure out what he needs/wants. We ended up pulling him out of this place after the first week. What a cold disheartened school. After a few days of my husband dropping him off, he needed me to go and witness and validate what he was seeing. As soon as we pulled up my son would start to sob and cry out "I no like". For a little boy who cant speak, I know that had to be really tough for him. I held him as we walked in (still sobbing) and not one person came up to console him or me. His teacher walked right past him barely acknowledged me and kept walking. For a Christian school, they are really awful to the children, they truly get no love here all they want is your money. We pulled him that night and got him into a amazing school! That he loves. Last note: After paying the initial fees and deposits and giving a two weeks notice we ended up paying close $1000 for services for a week! Total rip off! Don't go here. We absolutely love Grace Harbor!!! The education and the price can't be beat!!! They are 3 months all the way up to 5th Grade! If you are looking for a preschool or private school for your child I highly recommend you take a look at Grace Harbor. My son is in the infant program and he loves it!! The staff is so nice and you can see they have such a strong love for every child. The infant teachers as well as all the teachers I have meet are amazing and truly love their job! Everything is very clean! All toys are cleaned 2-3 times a day. I really love how each infant is on their own schedule and each child has a daily log that they fill out every day to let you know what happened. Although my son is son young he learns a lot there. I will never forget up until the first day of school we could never get him to sleep in his crib, he would only sleep in the swing. After 1 day of going to school we have not had a problem with him sleeping in the crib since! Which makes Mommy and Daddy very happy!! read more

I have been around this school for over 10 years. My kids both are growing up at the school. As one of those very 'specific' type parents (I am a CPA and auditor who analyzes everything in great detail) I couldn't be more at ease while my kids are there. Ms. Gina is my favorite. She was instrumental in my children's up bringing. I would question ANYONE who questions her methods. She keeps her room spotless and cares for every baby as if they were her own. I don't know how she does it but she is the baby whisper. The babies listen to her, learn simple sign language from her and learn manners. I was always sad to see my children graduate her class. EVERY teacher there treats the kids as needed: with love, while teaching them how to be good people. All the children there love the school and teachers. I have been to many events and field trips and the interactions are priceless. The school is small but that only means personal attention to EVERY child and their needs to be successful students and people. If there was an opportunity to give six stars, I would. The staff is amazing and our daughter, along with all of her new friends there, are ALL happy during drop off and pick up times. Every parent knows how hard it is to leave your child in someone else's care. When I take my son to school everyday I have never once had to worry if he was being well taken care of. The teachers, staff and directors of this school are family to us. From day one they treated my son like their own. The class room environment is warm and inviting. My son has thrived and will be very well prepared for kindergarten next year. My husband and I both work full time and so our son is in their care all day and at most after school care facilities the kids are not being taught all day long. At Grace Harbor, my son is learning all day. The ratio of students to teachers can't be beat and it is so wonderful that my son can tell his teachers he loves them and be affectionate without getting into trouble like he would at a public school. My daughter has been going to this school since the day after she turned 1 year old and is now almost 3. In looking at many schools this wasn't a school that had the best look it is an older school and is in need of some superficial updates but its not that its the STAFF that makes a school. What I can appreciate is that I get random pictures and messages of my baby from time to time showing just how well she is doing and for a teacher to take their time to do this is amazing to me. When I have an issue I discuss it and it gets handled in a timely manner. Its so easy for people to criticize by computer and unless your child has been there and you have had one on one interaction with the STAFF you shouldn't be allowed to comment. Mariah is young but not that young and she is a very loving and sweet teacher she is who you want your kids with and maybe her speech sounded bad based on being grilled on the phone. I could care less how the teachers sound when covering phones I like the hands on getting in the dirt and playing with them. My daughter loves every teacher she has had and she has been with almost all of them at some point. She of course has her favs but the point is she is loved by these teachers she is known by them all when she walks in and out all teachers greet her and say goodbye with love not annoyance.
