I was very pleasantly surprised when we stopped in for lunch! We are new to the Wilmington area so I always trust my fellow yelpers. First, we were greeted right away and shown to our table. Our service throughout the meal was outstanding. The restaurant is located in a strip mall and the windows are covered with art making it look more like a take out than a sit down. Do not let that deter you, it is very nice and there are many tables inside. Our server was great at recommendations and even brought us a sample of the soup that the kitchen made that morning. We sampled several dishes, and they were all authentic, fresh, and delicious. I was really impressed with all of the different tastes. I have never really tried Honduran dishes and now I want all of that time back! SO GOOD! Yeah, we're happy. Stopped in the morning for some food and left completely smiling. We hit the lunch special and I had the Pollo Horneado- absolutely perfection. Chicken fell right off the bone into the rice and I loved every delicious morsel of it. Husband opted for the Desayuno and had eggs with maduros with queso fresco and fresh cut avocado. We started off with the plantains which were so fresh and hot and served with a zesty thousand island. You have to pair this lunch with a bottled actual real Coke. From the inattentive waitress and hostess that acted like we were a burden the moment we walked in, to the oily chips and salsa that we were charged for to the entrees that were largely cold, under seasoned, bland or salt bombs... Let me tell you...if you want authentic Honduran and Mexican food with robust flavors... THIS IS THE PLACE! As per usual, on my first visit to a new place, I ordered several different items to get a feel for what they can do. I went with friends so we were able to try a variety of dishes. For starters, we ordered queso dip, yuca fritas and chips and salsa. I first want to highlight the chips. These were homemade chips fried to order. They paired perfectly with their queso and salsa. The salsa is not your traditional red tomato based salsa. It looks like salsa verde but the flavor is different. Regardless, it was very good! The yuca fritas were phenomenal! Served with guacamole, lime slices and a type of chipotle crema dipping sauce. The guacamole was different as well. We are used to a thick and chunky guacamole, but this was light and easy to dip. Your chip wouldn't break in it! Two friends ordered ACP, which they said was very good. Served with fried plantains on the side. The third friend ordered the steak quesadilla. She said it was likely the best steak she had ever had. Well seasoned and very tender. She even thought it could top True Blue. Fourth friend ordered the quesabirria. I also ordered the quesabirria and a baleada pollo. The quesabirria was wonderful. Full of flavor. The baleada was also good. I'm glad I ordered it because I was able to dip it in the remaining dipping jus from the quesabirria! My husband and I were in Wilmington and looking for something different to eat; we found it here. When we arrived Joe welcomed us and also was our waiter. He was very helpful and answered our questions regarding the menu and items in the dishes. This was our first time eating Honduran food. Joe brought chips and salsa to the table. He brought each of us our own cup of salsa, it was different from what we are used to but tasted good my husband had seconds. The salsa was green and not real thick. We were there during lunch my husband chose the seafood soup and I the chicken enchiladas. I ordered 3 and could only eat 2. There was no picture of the enchiladas so when they arrived I was surprised the enchiladas were not rolled and filled with chicken. They were flat (what my American style brain would call a tostada) but they looked and tasted delicious and piled with chicken. The seafood soup that my husband ordered had crawfish, mussels, shrimp, calamari, imitation crab and real snow crab along with some other veggies. Soup came with rice and tortillas on the side. He enjoyed the soup stated the serving size was a huge. He could not finish it all but he ate all the seafood. Ambiance is what I would call a local dive with authentic Honduran food. One of the things I love about Yelp (and being a Yelp Elite) is discovering new places to eat (as well as a myriad of other services) and then sharing with others such wonders. Today was no exception as I neglected to have anything ready to cook for supper, so I went to Yelp to find out what was available in the area. Honestly, the name, Gracias a Dios (Thanks to God) intrigued me, and then how it advertises authentic Honduran cuisine made it more so as within one week, that nation has been slammed by two Category 4 hurricanes (please pray for the people there). Reading past patrons' reviews had my juices flowing, and we decided that we just had to go there and try it out ourselves. As we pulled up in front of the restaurant, we noticed two Hispanic couples going in and entering; we discovered we were the only Norte' Americanos (gringos) there; that got me excited about the cuisine's authenticity. Our waiter, Felipe,' was with us quickly and answered the questions we had about the menu, took our orders and left some of the usual chips and salsa with us to whet the appetite. While the chips were pretty much standard, the salsa was not! A little soupy, but the flavor was extraordinary with a perfect amount of bite. The taste had me craving for more and looking forward to what was to come. On the menu, there is listed "Famous Honduran Plates," and that is where our focus was to make our choices. Kathy ordered the Pollo con tajadas while I chose the Carne Asada Catracha. The photos do not do justice, but until they invent some way to share the aroma and flavor of food online, this will have to do. The Pollo con tajadas consisted of Fried chicken served on a bed of fried rice green plantains with cabbage, drizzled with pickled onions, and Honduran dressing. We share back and forth so I can tell you that the chicken, while a little bit tough, was delicious; the sauce was smooth without any bite to speak of, allowing the chicken's flavor to stand out. When the submarine I was on visited Rosevelt Roads in Puerto Rico, several of us went into San Juan. One of the memories (that can be shared in public) was street vendors selling the fried plantains. The idea of frying sliced plantains was a new one for me, but the vendor wisely gave out free samples, and all of us bought a bag to eat as we explored the city. The flavor of the fried plantains brought that memory back and just added to the experience. My Carne Asada Catracha consisted of Grilled beef strips served with refried beans, a slice of avocado, Honduran cheese, and your choice of rice, fried plantains, or tortillas. I chose the plantains, of course, and thoroughly enjoyed them. As with the chicken, the beef strips were a bit tough, but the flavor was glorious! I had asked Felipe' for some hot sauce, and he asked me if I was sure (didn't want the gringo to burn himself up). The salsa was paste-like in consistency and had a nice bite to it (more like BITE). I asked Felipe for some to take home with me, and he seemed a bit surprised that I would want more. He did provide me with some that I will try with some eggs tomorrow. As the after images show, we did enjoy the food and will be going back soon to start working on the menu. An excellent meal with great service and a comfortable setting made this not only memorable but one that bears repeating over and over. The service was 5/5; as was proper, the wait staff had face masks on, so no need to order takeout; go on and sit down and enjoy the experience of this place. The food was 4.5/5; the only negative being both the chicken and beef was a bit tough. Easy to overlook, however, with the taste of Honduras that we experienced. Overall, real close to a 5/5 (maybe a 4.8/5?). All-in-all, this is one place that I will keep on a shortlist of businesses in town to enjoy again. read more

This little place is hidden in Wilmington and I'm so glad I found it! The food is VERY authentic and they definitely met my expectations. Amazing Honduran food!!! The owner was extremely friendly and came up to us to ask how the food was. Portions are big and the prices are worth it! The only thing I'd say i didn't like is that the owner was not wearing a mask and then big group of people came in and they were not wearing mask either, I think covid 19 rules need to be reinforced more! We are visiting from out of town and decided to try Honduran cuisine. It was excellent! Really enjoyed the food and service.

We knew we were in trouble when we walked into the room and there were two people at the restaurant at the register and no customers on a Friday night around 6:30 pm. We were told to seat ourselves so we did. Then we were asked if we wanted something to drink. My husband ordered a beer, my son wanted a Horchata which was on the menu and was told they didn't have it so he ordered a coke and it came frozen. I ordered a frozen margarita which took over 15 minutes to get and it was made In the back, not at the bar in view and tasted terrible. The server came back and then told our son he could have a Horchata. So he said ok and when he got it he could not recognize the flavor. Then we ordered the queso appetizer. Listen carefully, this is my only compliment. The tortilla dipping chips appeared to be homemade. We then ordered dinner. Our son ordered the carne asada steak, my husband ordered the pork carnitas and was told they didn't have it. I ordered a vegetarian empanada with potato, onion and cheese in a flour tortilla. Then the server came back to tell my husband he could get the pork carnitas. Here is the entree review, the carne esadada steak looked like over done leather and there were two large pieces and they gave him only two tortillas. The refried beans tasted like they had cocoa in them or some spice we had never encountered in refried beans. My empanada crust looked pretty and homemade and tasted great. The filling however was sweet potato and a surprise and was very bland, inedible. I ate the crust. The salad with it was edible and my refried Beans were not great either. My husbands pork carnitas had the texture of beef jerky but beef jerky has more moisture! Not only was this meal terrible, it was expensive and the service was ridiculously slow since we were the only ones there the entire time. My husband had to go to the register to pay because they were so slow. I honestly think they do not care about having any business at all. Maybe they do something Else on the side because in my opinion it is shocking they are even open. This may sound cruel but they earned every bit of this review. Subpar is the word that comes to mind. * The server was inattentive & appeared annoyed the entire time. She brought 4 glasses of water to the table; there were 5 of us. Our server did not give us plates or silverware when the appetizers arrived. When we asked for plates, she brought us 1 plate. * The chips were oily & tasted stale. The salsa & queso it came with tasted awful. * Everyone's dish tasted gross & we all left about 3/4 of the meal on our plates. * Don't order the seafood soup. It tasted like really bad clam chowder (minus the clams), it had shrimp, 3 crab claws, & a full piece of tilapia in the soup. Just weird & really, really bad. * Please don't order the fajitas! I had the shrimp, chicken, & steak fajitas. The shrimp & rice were the only things edible. The refried beans were made with red beans & they were extremely dry. The steak & chicken were super thin strips of over cooked & over-seasoned pieces of tough, dry meat. * My husband's steak was thin, dry, & extremely overcooked. Overcooked like a leather shoe. * Finally, when we ask for the bill, our server waved us over to the register & there was something on the bill that we never received. * Look at your bill; we were charged a 20% gratuity. I had no problem leaving a minimum 15% tip, even for awful service, but I would hate to have accidentally given an additional 15% gratuity because I failed to notice that 20% was already included on the bill.
