We had another great visit here on a Tuesday night. The restaurant was very busy! Taco Tuesday is a thing no matter who you are. Service is still so great even in the dinner rush, the staff here is very attentive and food comes out fast. Tequila Comida is truly a well oiled machine. I have been here several times now, and everything is consistent and delicious. The service is great, and the restaurant is very clean. I can't say enough good things about them. This place is impeccable. The staff are some of the friendliest in the biz. My wife ordered the shrimp tacos and they were amazing. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the rice and beans were awesome. I ordered the chimichanga with a side of their mole( made in house and some of the best I've ever tasted.) the manager (sorry I forgot your name, brother) was very attentive and professional. Don't judge a book by its cover. Hidden in the back corner of the parking lot, but the inside decor is nice and staff are very are friendly. You can tell as soon as you walk in, the food is authentic! Our waitress brought us chips and salsa and the salsa was fresh and flavorful. Had a nice kick to it. First, we got the Chicken Flautas, which were out-of-this-world delicious. Fresh, crispy, and flavorful; some of the best taquitos I've ever had. Then, our entrees came and they were fantastic. I ordered the Quesa-Birria. Birria was savory and smooth; the brisket inside the tortillas melts in your mouth! We come here every time we go to Wilmington/Carolina Beach because we're never disappointed. Our favorites are the brisket chimichanga and enchiladas suizas. Sooo delicious! Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. A gentleman came by and asked how everything was as we were finishing. He appeared to be a manager/owner; he did the same with many others. My boyfriend and I wanted a warm, delicious filling lunch, and we remembered enjoying a meal here awhile ago, so we came back. The staff here were all super nice, and it wasn't a super crowded time (1:30pm). We were still able to order off the lunch menu specials which was perfect! I've been here now three times! I went once with a family member, once with a coworker, and once with a group of people. Every time I have had great service. I love the way the restaurant looks on the inside, it is so clean and so cutely decorated. The staff are very kind, quick, and efficient. All of the food I have had has been great as well. I wouldn't say it's the best food I've ever had of the specialty, but it does the trick, especially being in Monkey Junction. I will say that I think their alcohol game is a little subpar. The one time I ordered a margarita which was off the menu (no prices) I got my tab later and found out it was over $20. I didn't ask for any quality liquor and I certainly didn't even taste the alcohol in my drink. That wasn't cool for me, but I paid it anyway since I didn't ask in advance. Another time I went and somebody tried to order a non-alcoholic beer and they ended up getting a juice. Well, Jarritos. Lol. Basically, how I feel about this place is that I will never suggest to go here and if somebody else suggest it, I will try and sway them away. That being said, if I end up having to be here for some reason, it will be just fine and I know that I will leave having had a good tasting meal (with a dent in my wallet larger than I'd hope but...) and an overall good time. read more

I said I'd return so here goes. The weather was favorable and sat outside. Same level of friendly attentive service with fresh Chips and sala brought to table right after being seated. I could not pass on the Enchiladas Mole Publano; sooo good. The margarita flight sample was fun and nicely presented and all were tasty and different. The flautas app was very good and enough to share with four. The red drum baked in banana leaf provided a nice presentation. It was moist and tasty though the side salad had no dressing and would have preferred refried beans over the rice. Our table shared the molten chocolate cake and ice cream; sooo good and a must! Good & Drinks were delicious! Our food came quickly and they have a nice large menu of different items to choose from. My only negative was we sat on the patio which is beautiful by the way but there seemed to be tons of bugs flying around. There was a chiminea on the patio which looked to have some brush / water in it so I am wondering if that was the culprit. Regardless I we will definitely be back but maybe sit inside or further way from the chiminea next time. read more

We love coming to our neighborhood Mexican restaurant. We have never had a bad experience. The strawberry margarita was on special and was really good with bits of strawberries inside! My fiancé ordered the Lunch chimichanga and loved it, the lunch portions are large. I ordered the lunch chicken enchiladas and they were so yummy. I recommend the mole! The server was very friendly and funny. Everything was perfectly timed and I loved seeing the servers working together. We visited this establishment on Sunday, 7 September. We purchased a home in Spring Lake about a month earlier and decided to come over to the coast for a visit. We Googled "waterfront restaurants" and Tequila popped up. So we took a nice walk down the waterfront and arrived at Tequila. We were warmly greeted and offered a choice of indoor/outdoor. We chose their beautiful deck. Sophia came to our table almost immediately with a welcoming smile and asked for our drink order (we were thirsty from the walk, so how perfect was that). Returned with our drinks and took our food order and was extremely knowledgeable and patient with our questions. She continued to offer excellent service throughout the meal..............and a DELICIOUS meal it was!!!! She was a SUPERSTAR for this establishment the whole time we were there. When we have visitors and return to the coast, which is only a two hour drive, we will definitely bring people to this lovely restaurant when taking them to the coast. Ate here on $2 taco Tuesday at 6pm. It was very busy, but luckily, they allowed me to make a reservation ahead of time. The interior decor was nice- pretty lights, wood architecture, barrel lids on the walls, and Christmas decor. A sanitizer bottle was available by the front door. Staff wearing masks and there was adequate spacing. They had complimentary fresh and warm tortilla chips served with red and tomatillo salsas. The salsas were good- loved that the red salsa had a hint of spiciness. The $2 taco special only applies to grilled chicken, chicken tinga, steak, brisket, and al pastor. I loved that each taco came with 2 homemade tortillas-just what I'm used to from back home in Cali. The tacos were topped with generous portions of diced white onion and cilantro. I tried all of the meats except the grilled chicken. A chili lime seasoning sauce was topped on all of the meats except for the chicken tinga. The chicken tinga had a green sauce. Thankfully, they were able to honor my request to remove the pineapple from the Al pastor. Yes, I don't think it's right for pineapple to be in savory dishes and that goes for pineapple pizza too! Anyway, all of the meats had good flavor, but my favorite was the al pastor. The only thing I wish it had, as well as the steak, was more charred crunchy bits because those are the best parts. The brisket could have been shredded better. The chicken tinga was cooked in a tomato sauce- it was tender and moist. 3 tacos were filling enough for me. If you like spicy sauces, you have to ask them for their house chili sauce. Their chili sauce is the real deal and will give you heat. Also tried the Michelada, which is a beer based bloody mary that comes in either a regular (20oz) or large size (32oz) beer jug. You can choose the beer you want. Our waiter recommended Negra Modelo beer, which we got. The Michelada was good. My husband, who is a bloody mary aficionado, loved it. Our friend also thought highly of it. This is a good place to come for taco Tuesday specials. Our waiter was great- friendly and attentive. There was only one annoying thing during our meal and that was 2 moths flying around our heads. COME. HERE! As an original Californian, I can't find many Mexican restaurants that remind me of CA. This place was great. The staff are so nice and friendly (that is a big plus!). The salsa was pretty basic for salsa, but I'm sure if I asked them for something more spicy, they would have brought something out for me. The strawberry mojito is a in a big glass - so refreshing! The carne asada tacos were amazing. They make their own corn tortillas and the salsa on top of the meat was SO good. I would definitely come back again! My family and I had a wonderful experience here! We were greeted warmly and led into the dining area which was lit with lots of rustic lights and really fun, colorful decor. Our six year old loved the kids menu coloring sheet which was so cute! Our server was so kind and charming! He told us he was from Ecuador and taught us some phrases :) He made us feel like family. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the octopus appetizer, my husband and oldest had tacos and the little one had chicken and rice. Everything had so much flavor and was really beautifully presented on the plates. My (very theatrical) youngest got up to show our server how she can dance and he danced a little with her :) The whole ride home we all kept saying what a lovely experience it was and we are so looking forward to coming back! read more

When the salsa is bad, then you know the food is bad. The salsa had no flavor and the chips were stale. I ordered the brisket nachos and it was flavorless. The cook did not know that you should probably season the meal with salt. My husband ordered the ceviche sampler and is was not good either. Also our waiter, Vincent was very rude. When my husband asked a question about the ceviche, when the menu did not specify what type of seafood was included he responded with, "how could you make a chicken sandwich without chicken?" He also would get easily distracted by other customers mid order and we would have to repeat ourselves. read more

Word around town has it that this is one of the top dogs for Mexican food in the area! While I'm a real stickler for fresh over the border, quality Mexican goodness, this earned a pretty high ranking on Dani scale of true, authentic excellence. My colleague and I met here on a Monday evening for dinner. There was no wait, plenty of staff, and a margarita deal that was hard to pass up. They started us out some pretty standard chips and, both red and green, salsas, complimentary. She informed us with the specials, broke my heart with the limited beer list options, and came back to check on us just the right amount of times. We ordered family style, trying the swordfish tacos, chicken empanadas, and citrusy ceviche. All came at the same time and with plenty to fill us up. I'm not a big fried food person by any means, so I was very hesitant to order the empanadas but as that first bite of mildly spicy, heavily seasoned chicken entered my mouth, all judgement and prior bias deceased. Damn that was some good chicken! And the black beans and rice pilaf that came with it were the perfect variation of texture, flavor and consistency. I would highly recommend the chicken empanada meal! The ceviche was my second favorite - not too chewy, perfectly citrusy and a solid portion for 2-3 people. And the swordfish tacos were interesting; worth trying for the experience but not something I'd order again. To be fair, after taking a bite of that chicken, then biting in the swordfish, I think the flavor was just drained based on the strength of chicken's seasoning. So maybe if you got that meal alone and sprinkled some lime juice on it it'd be better? I enjoyed the modern environment of the restaurant and somewhat spacious seating, given the building's layout. Our waitress was pretty attentive and the food came out in standard time. It's not the most ambient or romantic venue in Wilmington but it's got better Mexican food than most I've tasted in NC and prices that won't totally break the bank. I hope to be back and try more, preferably something on the burrito and tequila menu! read more

Food is so-so but the worst thing was the loud, obnoxious music. It drove us crazy!! The food is ok. Not even the chips and salsa are good. That's a basic staple for a Mexican restaurant and it's rare to find chips and salsa that aren't that great. The salsa is bland and the chips are brown and toasty from being over-fried. Not the greatest and it's not really Mexican food. It's not Tex-Mex, southwest Mexican (I'm from El Paso, TX.) I guess it's more like Mexican food from the interior region. Weird flavors. Going on vacation to the beach is fun, but adding a super expensive over-hyped chain style seafood restaurant isn't my style. I wanted something more local and focused on great food, and this place hit all the marks. Luckily this place was only two minutes away from our hotel stay. We had two hungry kids with us so that was a plus. We were seated immediately (we had choice of inside or outside), and both were available. We chose outside and while it was facing the parking lot I didn't mind. My oldest liked the flags hanging above and said it reminded her of the Pixar movie Coco. I started with a Mango-nada margarita and it was absolutely fantastic. I'm big on a solid salt-rim and this drink hit the spot. The chips and salsa delivered to our table was great while we waited for our food. I wanted seafood, but something a little different than just fried fish so I got the ceviche trio. Absolutely fantastic! I thought I wouldn't be full after but I was stuffed after eating all 3. I went with the salsa rojo, salsa verde, and salsa tropical, and loved each one. If you are very sensitive to heat I would advise you to order something else, but if you like just a little bit of heat you will love it. My youngest ordered the kids quesadilla, but fussed over the lettuce on the inside. I normally don't see lettuce inside a quesadilla, but I wasn't going to send it back because she's being picky. I told her just to take out the few pieces in there, and then she ate most of it. She had fries as a side, and as far as fries go they were pretty darn good. Super crispy on the outside, fluffy and creamy on the inside...pretty sure my husband ate most of them when she wasn't looking. My oldest got the beef tacos with lettuce expecting it to be ground beef, but instead it was shredded. Once again I refuse to send back food because my kid is being picky so I ended up eating hers because I didn't want it to go to waste. She fell in love with the rice though, and probably could have had two plates full if I had let her. Service was solid and also had a manager check on us to make sure we were happy with everything. Love all the Los Portales locations, but this is my favorite! The decor is so fun, the service is always quick and friendly, and the food is delicious! It's easy to totally fill up on their chips and salsa because they're so tasty, but be sure to leave room for a mojito or margarita and any of their appetizers or entrees. We've never gone wrong here, but I love the chicken empanadas and my husband's go to is the Mole Pipian de Cerdo. read more
