I contacted grade power hoping I could get my first grader back on track after a summer she fell behind just a smidge and to also somewhat rule out being dyslexic. They had good reviews and the owners seem invested in helping our family. They convinced me that it was absolutely necessary to spend 299.00 on an assessment so they could start to see where my daughter was academically and see if she did in fact poses characteristics of dyslexia, so I scheduled the assessment and my 6 year old spent two hours doing it. It took all Saturday morning. After that they needed to basically grade it and then call me back. They called me and said I needed to physically come in (which is hard with another preschooler and newborn) but finally made it in a week later for them to show me what looked like a bogus explanation of a myriad of their own standards of intellect. The results were summed up as; she was a little behind in some type of reading (it was VERY u specific and used a LOT of language that didn't explain anything) and then asked at the end of their 20min explanation that offered no real answers they said she was too young to be tested for any dyslexic qualities (????). They then told me my SIX YEAR OLD must come 60min per day 3 days per week at 59/hr (um excuse me?). I asked if she could come once per week or in smaller sessions because first, it was wayyyy too long for a 6 year old to commit to, and secondly COMPLETELY unaffordable!! (708.00??? Per month!) long story short, NOTHING productive came from this experience and I hired a private tutor from my daughters school at a fraction of the cost which has caught her up to the stuff she was behind in and more. I really hope this serves as a warning to those considering these services for younger kids and for the owners who offered no reasonable solutions for our family despite me conveying what they told me I must do was not possible for us. read more

Being new to the tutoring scenario, I assumed tutors were to have teaching credentials, as I assume my doctor went to medical school and passed the boards. Well, that's not the case in Grade Power in Palm Harbor. After 6 weeks of seeing no improvement in my child's performance, I posed the question. I couldn't believe my ears to learn that their philosophy was it was not necessary to have any credentials and that the teaching exam was really hard. I was also told that no tutoring places have licensed teachers. That's not the case. Not only are other places cheaper than Grade Power, all their tutors are also teachers and are trained in dealing with ADHD. My advice to you is to ask a lot of questions and shop around because I found that Grade Power was nothing more than a really expensive daycare. I would rate them a zero. read more

If you look at my profile, I don't rate things on yelp. I really don't think it matters if you know whether I think a burger is one or five stars. This, however, is much more important than any restaurant review could ever be. GradePower, and more importantly the individuals who work at GradePower, sincerely care about these children and their success.
