I recently attended the 2025 Subscape and was impressed by their ability to offer a free show at such a quality venue. I can't say enough great things about this place. I do want to give a special shout out to the doorman who who informed me that they were at capacity, but ultimately allowed me to enter after I waited for 20 minutes as he confirmed that their staff was able to allow another person in as people started to leave. I mean how can you pass by the mirrored egg or the golden hand and not think to find out what type of dope art is hidden inside. With so many unique pieces to look at I took my time leisurely strolling through the two buildings for the museum. Welcomed by a half naked mannequin with wings floating in the center of the stairs, you can't help but be intrigued to learn more about the artists work. There was so much to take in with every turn. I especially liked the homage to the staples of Baltimore's culture in the second building. And we can't forget about the gift shop that I literally could've spent hours in just rummaging through all the eclectic finds. I'm happy I finally bit the bullet to visit the American Visionary Art Musuem, and I look forward to a return visit to see all the things I missed.

One part of a frame came in not meeting their standards and the did not just use it but got the part replaced. Day, the manager, helped us pick the frame out for an oil painting my mother did in the 70s. The painting always seemed pale and washed out. When I came to pick it up. Day's suggestion had transformed the painting into someting dramatic and bold. Really wonderful as that painting has been part of my life for 50 years and is like a new one! The posters we had done were all mounted with exacting precision. Crystal and Day insisted on wrapping the art in protective foam. Their store is small and wonderfully cluttered. They are very nice folk. Great neighborhood business. Glad we went to them.

My favorite ones are of the Inner Harbor from Federal Hill and some of the streets and buildings like the Natty Boh symbol. I often make sure my run path takes me right past the gallery so I can stop in for a peak and admire some of the pieces I could hang on my wall one day. There are a myriad of scenes from touristy shots (The harbor from Fed Hill) to shots from east Baltimore (row homes, corner bars) to dogs, cats, a select few of Fenway (in MA), Philly, and NY? Beware they are dog people at the gallery and will often have Super Lou and another dog around. The dogs are friendly and love to play with customers so stop by and browse, pet the dogs, and chat with the owner.

I love coming in here just for the history alone and checking out some of the old artwork. I've bought a few prints from here including some throwback Baltimore Inner Harbor prints from the 80s and some old WWI USA propaganda sayings that are really cool. They can also frame there and they weren't kidding when they say then can usually beat prices of most professional framing shops.
