Scam artists who sell garbage at a price well beyond what items are worth. Rude service, absolutely not worth your time or money.

I have learned that auctions are really freaking fun! WOW! What a great experience!…read more I discovered Rick's while I was walking towards East Village. It's a warehouse looking building near Confluence Way which is for the most part never open. However on Wednesday nights at 5 PM something magic happens. The doors open, the bidders get their numbers and the auction begins! Bidders have an opportunity to see the items up for auction beforehand which sprawl in piles around the room. From what I can gather the majority of the items are from closed estates. Dead people's treasure, or just someone's crap? Who am I to judge? I just like a good deal on neat stuff! I picked up some Stampede dollars from 1982 which are in mint condition. Nobody bid against my measly $10 and I felt like I had emerged victorious! I also picked up a marble top side table with brass base for the same price. No one could defeat my immense bidding skills! In all seriousness I think I'll come here with $40 in my wallet every other week. It's a heck of a lot of fun! Things that I didn't bid on but thought were cool: - An electric train set that went for $150 - An electric guitar with whammy for just over $100 - A WWII dagger that went for uner $20 - A really old fold up Kodak camera with accordion old timey lens for $17.50 (I was super tempted) - An arc welder for $40 - A handheld snowblower (roughly the size of a weed wacker) for $2.50 The auction lasts for roughly an hour and a half and they have a hot dog stand for coffee and snacks. Pro tip: Nobody bloody well bids on the furniture! It's really good furniture! You could seriously furnish an entire house for like.... $100. No lie.

An awful experience. I put in an absentee bid because I was not sure I could make it to the…read moreWednesday auction in time. As it turned out, I did make it and watched as Rick awarded the item to another bidder despite my absentee bid being much higher! When I protested and pointed out that I had an absentee bid much higher, he said "Sit down and shut up or get out!" What an arrogant a**hole!

I participated online auction under the terms of the auction "as is" with the description of the item to be reliable. Going in person to preview items when bidding at distance is not a realistic option. Listing had two air compressors with no mention of JUNK condition. After pickup, both items are non-functional, missing parts and likely salvage condition. At a minimum, listing should include that compressors were not working or needing repairs. My experience with other auction services (especially online) is that they identify status of items as NEW/FUNCTIONAL-TESTED/NON-FUNCTIONAL/SALVAGE and you can bid appropriately. Remote auction bidders should not use an auction that allows listing of non-functioning equipment without disclaimers in the listing while putting all risk onto the buyer. Better yet, don't take my word for it - review Wild Rose's terms in the first 8 parts, they have 12 sentences saying you must satisfy yourself on the condition of items, the auction house does not guarantee any claims or products and there is no recourse for the buyer regardless. If you can't travel to physically inspect items under these terms or trust the auction house to qualify the condition of the item, distance bidding is an extremely risky proposition here. Adjust your bidding values appropriately or reserve your online business for auctions with greater care for the customer.

I purchased an item in a single lot on december 23. The item was listed as appears to be missing…read moretwo parts, the faceplate and worm. In the picture the face plate was clwarly not missing. The worm is not a part on the machine in any way. After bidding on the lot, winning it and purchasing it. We arrived to pick it up. Well loadung the items i had won in all the lots. The auctioneer heard a clunk from the machine i had purchased. He than opened the lid and found a bynch of parts that were included in the lot as they were part of the machine. Assuming they were the parts he listed as missing, he decided to remove the parts from the machine, including over 18 parts... far from two, rendering the machine useless. He than adnitted bluntly in message to him as i confrinted him of what i had seen from across the lot, as i couldnt address it that day cause he left somewhere inside and i was on a short time limit. My passenger and assistant confirmed to me what i thought i saw, so after addressing it over message. The owner and auctioneer admitted to removing the parts and stated he was selling them personally to a different customer he had that needed the part. After catching him in lying about how the parts got into the machine and why he removed them. He decided to stop replying as he has probably already sold the parts. He sells parts and items from the auction that sellers putting it in his hands do not know about at his otger "store" ice cold equipment canada. He claims to be a realestate agent selling seacans from the yard amd also operates what he claims is a UVC medical clinic from his auction warehouse, under the doctors names of sam, samantha and sammy. This guy is a legit scam artist and its time to take it to the news!

It's a bit of a religious thing for me, the search for an awesome auction for one thing or another…read more Back in Montreal, there were auctions, but they were fundamentally terrible with minimum floor bidding pricing very close to the actual value in a store... but here in Calgary, this place can yield a ton of surprises! I'm talking about Reid's Auction, an odd little bunker and yard across from the old UFA supply yard in the SW. It's really not much to look at, but when you get inside, there's rows and rows of tables full of items of all sorts depending on the theme of the week. You get to walk around and examine the goods the day before or (usually the Monday for Tuesday night auctions, or Friday for Saturday day auctions) and then decide if you want to bid at Auction time. As for how to do it? Walk in with a driver's licence or some sort of id to get a number. Then follow the crowd to make a bid. Wait... don't bid right away, and if there's no bids, the auctioneer will drop the price. Once it hits a level you are willing to start with, make your bid and be prepared to fight other for it. And be prepared to fight, because you never know who wants it too. Just remember to NOT go over what you're comfortable with, because I've seen way too many people bid too much for old stuff. Oh, and there's an additional 15% added on when you pay, the fee to the auction house. Over the years, I've picked up a case of Tetley tea for $3, a large box of Christmas wreaths for $5, some various brand-new furniture for less than $20, LCD computer monitors for less than $10 and all sorts of other stuff for waaaay less than I would have ever paid in a store. And every week, there's usually a theme, sometimes interesting like the lost and found stuff from Greyhound, or a restaurant or bar closure, or the Government of Alberta trying to get rid of old surplus and so on. It's worth taking a look at the site every so often to see what's coming up. It might give you a few interesting Xmas ideas! Good luck bidding! #31 of Yelp's 30-Day Review Challenge
