They treated the bride and groom and party so well and I was so happy that they often went out of their way to help the wedding go off without a hitch. My tee time was later in the afternoon so I planned on eating lunch at the pub but it didn't open up until 1pm...on a Friday? They had a small place around the corner of the range that had hot dogs as the only warm food choice and snacks. After the round I went to check out the pub. The atmosphere was cool with a bunch of TV's and live music. I went with the bartender's recommendation of the pizza and was disappointed. It took way too long and the pizza wasn't worth the wait. Not enough sauce, taste or cooked crispy enough. Plenty of better and more reasonable choices for dinner in the area. Two light beers and personal pizza was $30.

My wife and I arrived around 7:45am and the pro shop was empty. I guess they open at 8, because the pro shop attendant showed up at 8:05am. This morning, a Monday (Columbus Day), we had the course to ourselves until a couple of others showed up around 8:45. There is an open driving range (un-fenced). The golf cart we were assigned SUCKED! Gas powered, loud, and gave us whiplash every time we pressed on the accelerator pedal, no matter how gently we pressed. The course was FULL of sticker weeds throughout. Parking was ok and the greens were in decent shape. This is a good course for the beginner who's looking to golf cheap.

Decided to try this course because of its par 6 3rd hole. Three of us showed up on a Sunday because…read moreit was a rare Texas mild weather day (around 82 degrees). There were very few people on the course. The cost was $20 per person and included a cart. There was no dress code required. Parking sucked - no protection from a nearby hole (the 9th). Not many bunkers, but there were ravines and water hazards on probably 12 of the 18 holes (it's actually a 9-hole course that you play twice for 18). This day the mosquitos were BRUTAL! So if you play during mosquito season, make sure to bring some mosquito repellent. The fairways are fairly wide, but several holes are close together, and if you've never been here before (like us), it's hard to tell which flag/green you're supposed to be hitting at. Lots of hard pan and deep rough if you don't hit 'em straight. For $20, I'd play this course again. But I may make one of my buddies drive THEIR car next time. :D

However, we went back this year and found the course is under new ownership. They are doing a great deal of work to improve the facility. Not only for the golf course, but they also have began serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Allso, it is one of the few places in Merkel that has a first rate bar. They have juke box, and two big screen TV's on the wall for sporting events, and such after golf. It will be interesting to see how much better it gets the next time I am in the area. It is well worth the stop, and not very far off of the interstate.
