Shopping for a very specific anime gift for a teen friend I knew I went to the right place when Mr. Wayne himself gave me a very detailed tour of his wares. This world today is far more complex than it was back in my Batman and Robin days, so I was very happy to get the assistance. They have every price point and virtually every character. While it is packed with product, it is the kind of store that every corner you look at you find something fun. Great service, good prices and a very broad assortment= hours of fun every visit!

That's mostly because the prices are terrible--worse than eBay and Facebook marketplace scalpers. Case in point: there's a pokemon illustrated set that just came out. It's $17. You can still get lucky at retailers and it'll be restocked. Here, just 2 days after launch, they're selling for $50. Just nuts. I guess it's clear this isn't a "card shop," it's a scalpers storefront. Don't go here looking for Lorcana--guessing the margins are too low. Except for their singles, which they sell for $2-4....crazy pricing for Lorcana. Anyways, i won't be back. Will have to continue my search for a card shop that's ethical and somewhat reasonable. --------- Edit in response to business reply: 1) i agree conversation could go a long way. But when your pricing on a brand new Pokémon set (which doesn't have a set market yet) is already 3x MSRP, what productive conversation can happen? It's just a straight up gouge. I'm not naive to expect to get everything at MSRP, but i think 3x markup 2 days post launch is unreasonable. 2) i did ask about Lorcana. I was told you "don't carry much" and "didn't have any right now." 3) you seem to be implying that you're aware prices are high and can then be negotiated lower. If that's how you want to do it that's your prerogative, just understand that's offputting for new customers. It's hard to want to establish a relationship and have a conversation when the first impression is being taken advantage of. And when your response to pricing questions is "well the hobby is thriving!" I don't think that's off base.

Interesting collection of used books and vinyls. There are new volumes of books and plenty of used…read morebooks and magazines. The staff will look up books to buy new for 20% off, too, if they are still in publication. The gentleman behind the desk showed us some special editions of some books. Although we could not buy them, it was really interesting to see. Good selection and genres are well marked so you will be able to find science or science fiction books.

These guys had prints that I haven't been able to locate at other shops, and everything was extremely well organized. Books were in great condition, and the staff were so kind and helpful. Very much a "reader's" comic shop, but they have tables set up for your D&D game or Magic or really whatever your fancy is. Best of all, the prices are fair, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better value in the area. I'll definitely be back. I would die for more time to dig through their back issues.

First, their store credit policy makes no sense: you can't use it on "premium" items, which defeats the purpose of having store credit at all. On top of that, when I sold them some premium Magic: The Gathering cards, the prices I was given were for the wrong versions. Because I had my three kids with me at the time, I didn't notice until later, but it felt dishonest and not worth the argument. What bothered me most, though, was how they treated me as a newer customer. I stood waiting for about 15 minutes with my kids while staff ignored me to casually chat and eat with tournament patrons who weren't even doing business at the time. They had recognized me, but still dismissed me while I was clearly trying to complete a transaction. It made me feel like my time -- and my business -- weren't valued. Most of the staff were nice, but the older bald gentleman was rude and dismissive, which really stood out. Between the poor credit rules, the card pricing issue, and the way I was treated as a customer, I can't recommend Thunder Comics. If they want to encourage more sales and playtime in their store, they should focus more on being fair, welcoming, and attentive -- especially to new customers

Pricing is always super reasonable, you can negotiate prices and find many hidden gems. You'll even get a couple of bucks knocked off, super nice guys! Always great to walk in, have a talk, and keep adding on to my collection. Another positive is it is right off the prairie path which is super nice, especially cause I bike every now and then. Having been in comics for 40 years, I'm tired of seeing shop owners who lack customer service. I'm…read morean experienced collector and know how to handle comics so I don't appreciate being told I can't open them to check for condition. Even though he was willing to open them for me, I tend to buy dozens at a time and could potentially be at the register for 30 min while he opens them for me. I'm not looking for perfect customer service but there's a way to talk to people. He wasn't rude but had the personality of a rock. I'm in my 50's and don't appreciate being treated like a child. Put up signage if you don't want people to open the books. And how about a break it or buy it policy? Even though I handle the books better than most store owners, if I damage the book while examining it, I'll pay for it. You already got cameras on me so what's the problem. I won't be back. (Replying to the owner's reply: A better response would have been, "I'm sorry for the inconvenience and misunderstanding. I'll take your thoughts into consideration and strive to create a better experience for my customers. I appreciate your visiting my store and I hope that you have a more positive experience if you ever return." Now THAT would win my business.

I was visiting from out of state and stumbled upon Amazing Fantasy which I had never heard of…read morethough their legacy is rich and long in Chicagoland. For a smaller store, I really was impressed by the amount of back bins there were and even found some gems! And the prices were really good. The proprietor, Brock, was welcoming, helpful, insightful and a pleasure to chit chat with. He made me feel at home and took care of me. He's a very fair and generous guy! I was impressed with their huge selection of graphic novels. We only had a couple minutes because we had an appointment to get to, but we thought it was a great place to shop. We decided to buy a mystery graphic novel (it was wrapped up and so it was a surprise) before we left. We will be back!

We went in for a $4 comic and got so much more! They have great books for kids- not just comics…read more They've got golden books, graphic novels, regular novels, and all sorts of good stuff. My kids had a blast and are still reading and rereading weeks later. Plus, they put you on a list when there's something you want, whether it's out of stock or a series. You get a text when it's in and they hold it for a week. Super cool. There's lots for adults, too- it's not a store just for kids but we really appreciated the section. :)
