What an amazing place! I've been numerous times now and I will keep coming back. Service is outstanding and the two guys are very helpful and very positive. I'm a sports card and memorabilia fan, especially vintage and baseball and the selection is very large and widespread. Pricing is always super reasonable, you can negotiate prices and find many hidden gems. You'll even get a couple of bucks knocked off, super nice guys! Always great to walk in, have a talk, and keep adding on to my collection. Another positive is it is right off the prairie path which is super nice, especially cause I bike every now and then. Bought new and old comics. Then I find out when paying for the books, they DON'T take credit cards. I asked why don't you put a sign in the door? He said that someone tore it off! Sooo.. The best part about this shop os its close to a great walking trail, and moore bewing. It is an oldschool comic shop in the fact that there are a lot of unorganized back issues. The problem is that it is not very inviting. If you want to pick up something modern from the racks it seems like a nice place. I saw from the outside of the store that they stock comics and baseball cards. OK. In addition to the usual boxes of comics (really packed in - store is all of 800 square feet), they have old issues of MAD Magazine (technically a comic but not usually found in stores - selection of issues dating back to the 1970s); vinyl records; pulp comics all the way back to the 1930s!; and a wide assortment of monster magazines- probably the best collection I've seen since in a store in Illinois (Cinefantastique; Famous Monsters of Filmland - stuff I usually have to go to a mini-con to find). Interesting selection of vintage comics (notably old Disney and Classics Illustrated). There are a couple of busts and statues and if this wasn't enough, there are more boxes of graphic novels (50% cover price) by one of the windows. And they stock Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo, which no one stocks. Definitely worth talking with the owner; asked if he had a particular issue of Mad and he went and got it in the back, and threw in a couple of tidbits about Villa Park history. read more

Box after box of old comics, double stacked, and there's even more behind the counter. They can usually be counted on when other stores sell out of new stuff, too. So I finally came here today. Its a good place. They have a ton of comics new and old. Its a small place and its old but I think that makes the place a lot cooler and homely I guess. Its kind of like the old style comic book stores. Anyways, besides comics they have baseball trading cards and action figures. For comics they have more of the older ones in the long boxes on tables and newer ones on the shelves. But like I said before they have a lot so you kind of have to go searching. I stopped by here today while looking for something to do on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Once you open the door you know immediately what type of business you've walked into. COMICS. That unmistakable smell of old comics is just wonderful, and something you dont find very often any more. The store manages to pack a billion items in a tiny space. Everywhere you look there is multiple layers of cool stuff to dig through. The owners are super nice, and you dont feel unwelcome. If you miss the, I dont know, "Classic" old school comic shops, this is one of the best left standing. It isn't pretty. It isn't lot of neon and flash. What it IS is a classic awesome throw-back comic store. A little about what they have. Comics. Comics. Comics. Old, new, rare, common. You want your list filled? Bring it here. Went to this place biking with friends from the praire path in summer of 83-85. Owner always had the chicago Cubs games watching Harry carry broadcast. Owner always had his elderly mommy with an old black and white TV set. went there a couple of years ago and owner is still there with his elderly mommy still watching the Cubs games on a color TV set. great place if you are a kid and like to collect cards and comics. Very friendly owners. Helpful and easy to talk to. Owner remembers customers and will keep an eye out for comics he thinks you'll enjoy. The one down side is they thend to sell out of newer stuff rather quickly, but you can count on them for back issues of pretty much anything. read more

This place is great! The two brothers and mother that are always in there are extremely nice. They are also very knowledgeable and passionate about comics. The manager took a list of comic books that I am trying to track down and has been helping me find them when he comes across them. They also put together sets of back issues from time to time and sell them for a reasonable price. The only bad thing I have to say is that they only accept cash which can be inconvenient but it is not really that big of a deal. Just plan ahead and get some cash before heading in. For a comic book geek this was basically heaven. I was originally going there for some new comics but when I saw how it had tons of old comics I knew had to look through them ! Even though it's messy it made me feel in one those old comic book shops. By the way if you're looking for the hours it's like this: On Sundays,Mondays, and Tuesdays they're closed. Unicorn is a great store where it's easy to spend $$. Owner Terry is knowledgeable about his inventory and keeps just about everything in easy reach. He will even move boxes around to make it easier for you to browse. The store sells both new and used comics. They also stock some collectibles. A quirky thing, the TV is always on in the store and members of Terry's family seem to be pretty big fans of classic TV. If you're into classic comics, the humor kind, this is your place. Unicorn stocks tons of Disney, Looney Tunes, Richie Rich, etc. At most stores, these humor comics take a back seat to the superheroes, but Terry stocks a generous number of them. Pricing is fair and reasonable. The store is cash only, so stop at the ATM first and then park in front of the restored train station/museum for your visit to Unicorn. I recently visited family in Chicago and stumbled across Unicorn Comics. I really can't say enough about how awesome this place is. It has the set up of something you would see in a really cool Indy movie and the selection that will impress the highest level of collector. Best place to go for old and new comics! I stumbled on it when the comic shop I usually go to was not participating in free comic book day. I must say I believe I have been converted to Unicorn. I always feel welcome and the owner is so helpful. I was looking for some Teen Titans comics, and he was kind enough to pull down every box of Teen Titian's he had.
