The Grammy museum, definitely a hidden, out in the open, gem if you've never been. I really didn't know what to expect with it before going in, but it exceeded whatever expectations I may have had. The museum is multiple floors high, so you'll have plenty to see and do. Is it a tribute to music and Grammy winners past and present? Yes, but it is also so much more. So many interactice areas from playing musical instruments, to learning how mixing work and making beats, to getting inside the booth, doing voice acting or dropping a freestyle, the interactive elements are numerous. Plus seeing, in person, the outfits Grammy winners of the past write, from Michael Jackson to Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish, so much to experience. IMMERSIVE! 4.0 This was our first visit to the GRAMMY Museum, despite its opening in 2008 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the GRAMMY Awards. Located right next to The Novo and around the corner from the JW Marriott, this wonderful museum takes you on a long, well-traveled journey down memory lane (depending on how old you are) through the history of musical fame. Because we stayed at The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles, we received two complimentary passes to the museum as part of the hotel's resort fee. The passes could be used anytime during business hours. The museum is closed on Tuesdays. The four-story museum is relatively compact. Since we had a flight home to catch, we made a very quick tour of the exhibits and were in and out in about an hour and a half. The museum features permanent, ongoing exhibits as well as "latest exhibits." Be sure to check the website for current offerings and updates. I especially enjoyed the wonderful display of vintage guitars, the rows of red-carpet outfits, and the Mono to Immersive Experience room. It's a stacked museum, so it's best to start at the top and then head downwards; this makes sure you see and experience everything they have to on display. My wife and I had a wonderful time coming to the Grammy Museum today to visit Selena exhibit before it's gone. This was the last weekend it would be there so I brought the tickets ahead of time online and arrived an hour early before the door open. I parked at the LA Live parking garage nearby, the price was reasonable per hour. There was a line already but it wasn't too bad. The staff here are great and will give you recommendations on how to start your tour. We went straight to the elevator to go to the 4th floor to see Selena stuff because she's my wife idol. My wife had the biggest smile seeing her idol dress and some history. We also looked at Michael Jackson and Sublime exhibit too. read more

What a small but well put together museum! It was really neat seeing actual Grammys from artists young and old and outfits they wore to the Grammys. What brought me here was the Michael Jackson exhibit (which was really just a section of wall that had 3-4 items of clothing). That in itself was worth the trip (though it may or may not still be there depending on when you read this review). I highly recommend visiting the website to see what exhibits are currently showing since coming into this area can be chaotic. Heads up, if you park across the street at the garage where people going to the Staples Center probably park, it's expensive! You may wanna look for cheaper alternatives. read more

How many times I have passed the Grammy museum and thought I'd love to visit here oneday, well the day finally came! Me and the hubby came around 1:30 on a Friday afternoon and parked at LA live for $10. Tickets were about $22-23 a piece. Staff was friendly. It's about 4 levels and so we started at the top and worked our way down. During the time we went it was the Selena exhibit on the 4th level. To see how she is still so loved was amazing to be around. I loved how interactive the museum is ( you can make a small demo, play guitar, drums). I loved seeing the different costumes ones have worn during the Grammys and some of the live performances on screen. It it a little older Musuem and possibly in need of an upgrade soon but I really enjoyed myself! read more

I went to the Grammy museum with a friend of mine, we both like and appreciate good music and decided to go to Los Angeles to visit this five story museum. It was pretty good. We were here for only two hours though. I learned about the death of Selena in 1995, never heard of her in my life, but apparently she passed away and was a wonderful Mexican singer. The price to get in for me was about $20 and the parking nearby was the same price $20. Not really happy about that, the experience was unique a lot of different Grammy award winning artists were there. You could play instruments and read the different stories behind the Grammy winners in music like Michael Jackson, Selena, Barry white, Taylor swift and others. The last floor has a balcony that overlooks Los Angeles, so that's a nice view. The bad thing is it's open from 11am to 5pm which doesn't give much time in general but also, not much to do. But for $20 it was a nice experience. The artistry and the video room with Selena were nice. read more

What cool little museum! I wasn't sure what to expect, but they had a lot of interactive exhibits and sound booths where you could experience what recording in a real studio might be like. They also have a keyboard and a drum set that you could play. When we went, they had a section dedicated to Selina in an area that seems to rotate themes. They had several outfits artists have worn to the Grammys and, of course, a tribute to Michael Jackson. The coolest was "Musical Crossroads," where you could select a decade or a style of music from over 100 years ago and listen to various artists. 2 pairs of headphones were provided at almost every exhibit so that two people could experience the same thing. I wish I lived closer because they have some great programs I would love to see. We were going to go up to the small coffee shop on the top floor, but couldn't figure out how to get up there! The 5th-floor button didn't work in the elevator, so we went and got something around L.A. Live. I suggest you check the calendar for other events in the area. It can get a little crazy during major concerts and you may want to rethink your timing. read more

I LOVED coming here today. We came for a field trip and the kids had a BALL. There's so much to do, see and read. They had the dopest interactive area where kids got to make music, learn about beats and instruments, learn about music in all areas : video games, movies, theater, etc. and I LOVED the immersive room with the various sound systems over the years. Visited the GRAMMY Museum at L.A. Live with BB on Christmas Eve to see the Luther Vandross exhibit that I'd been seeing online. Since it was Christmas Eve, the museum closed early at 3 PM. We arrived around 2 PM but still had enough time to see everything -- twice. We were able to see the Luther Vandross exhibit, which is located on the third floor. While it was special to experience, it definitely should have been larger to properly honor such an extraordinary artist. The exhibit includes big-screen clips of his performances, wardrobe pieces from a couple of concerts, his Grammys displayed on the wall, and some of his handwritten lyrics. On the second floor, we spent time in the music labs, which were fun and interactive. There are booths where you can record your own song in the genre of your choice, which added a hands-on element to the visit. The top floor had several standout displays. The hip-hop exhibit was especially fun -- sitting inside a booth to experience how hip hop and rap are meant to be heard with subwoofers, amps, and speakers was both cute and entertaining. There were also displays featuring Bruno Mars' Prince-inspired drums, Elvis' shirt, several of Janet Jackson's outfits, and many other pieces. The crowd was minimal, likely due to the rainstorm and the holiday. While I enjoyed the visit, for the price of admission, I wish there had been more exhibits to see and more interactive elements overall. Great museum covering pop culture from the last century and more; rare and unique artifacts, memorabilia, actual wardrobe used by artists, the evolution of the Grammy Award; hands on exhibits for children and those young at heart. We came to see the Selena exhibit, amazing to see such an iconic set of pieces from a world renowned artist that influenced so many younger artists and generations. What could have made it better? The organization of the way the exhibition was set up. It was placed in the fourth floor of the museum and I would argue it could have had a larger section of museum to accommodate all the visitors. Alas, the signage was poor about there being a queue line required to see her exhibition. Not clear when we first got to that floor. Horrible planning on the museum's part, especially regarding the new Selena exhibit. And let me start with it will take you 2 mins to see the exhibit. It's in a roundabout and not much stuff to see. Continuing on...... If you're planning to come, go during the week, arrive very early, and honestly wait two to three weeks before even trying. Tickets are sold without any assigned time slots or date controls, which is baffling for a high-demand exhibit. When we arrived, the line wrapped all the way around the block. After waiting, staff then told people they should consider coming back another day because of the crowd size. That's unacceptable when tickets have already been sold. This wasn't a crowd issue--it was a poor setup and lack of planning. If you're going to host a major exhibit, basic crowd control and timed entry should be standard. Very disappointing experience due to logistics alone. read more

There is a lot of video footage of great Grammy performances over the years which we enjoyed very much. Some of the current exhibits included one on Selena, the Tex Mex singer and photo retrospective by Blakesberg as well as the indie grunge band Sublime. So cool learning about the history and evolution of music and the Grammys. On the sidewalk there are little records with a few of that year's winners. Checked out this museum a few weeks ago. I've been here once before in 2014 for the Taylor Swift 1989 exhibit which was a lot of fun. Coming back, it couldn't be more different. Admission is $22.50 per adult with a $5 off your validation ticket if you park in their designated parking structure. The exhibits were fun to walk through. Also love that there's a rooftop cafe overlooking the skyline. Small museum, but its got its charm. As a local, I rarely take advantage of all LA has to offer. The Grammy museum was a fun way to spend a couple of hours reading up on the history of some of the Grammy winners and listening to some tunes. The museum is located in LA live, the entrance is facing figuroa in between Fixens soul Kitchen and flemings. The museum was much bigger than I expected. I suggest you start on the top floor which is the outdoor rooftop on the fifth floor. There you can grab a bite and something to drink, they do have some alcoholic options as well. There is a semi nice view as all. The Museum is very modern and has a ton of activities for both adults and children. You can go into studio rooms and try free styling rap, or playing a musical instrument, recording your own song and they give you an option to download it onto your phone. You can also try mixing music with a drum machine, etc. like you are a music producer. You can easily spend a few hours here. If you or your friends enjoy all things, music or fashion, I definitely check this place out. They do have a few Grammy dresses and suits on display... Like Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, and Chappell Roan. I believe LA live offers valid parking but it's a bit pricey, $10 for two hours. I'm lucky enough to be able to take the metro into downtown so I would suggest doing that if it's an option. Afterwards, there's plenty of places to have a meal or a drink. read more

I visited the GRAMMY Museum on 12.8.205 after hours to see The Struts in the 200 seat Clive Davis Theater. What a cool event! The first part was a chat with the lads from the UK moderated by music journalist Lyndsey Parker, then they performed a five song acoustic set. And the best part, tickets were reasonably priced at around $50 each, not several hundred like you might expect from such an up close and personal event. As for the museum itself, to be fair, I did not spend any time there. But the staff was friendly and well organized, and the small gift shop was cute. Honestly, this small venue event format is really impressive. Nice job GRAMMY Museum. You are definitely on my radar now. It is also great that the museum is part of a larger entertainment complex (L.A. Live), so parking is easy, though pricey at $40, and there are plenty of options for food and drinks. As for The Struts, they were a blast. Engaging, charming, fun, and incredibly talented. Five stars. I loved this inventive use of the museum. read more

This was my first time at the Grammy museum. I was there for the audio Sonic playground installation featuring Ableton live, Side Brain, and Moldover. The museum is an awesome space. It is clean, modern and truly an inviting, welcoming space. It's close enough to public transportation that I was able to get the train and walk. The sonic playground is an awesome hands on exhibit. There were people there of all ages learning about and playing with technology related to djing, sampling, singing and creating electronic music. Side Brain and Moldover demonstrated the software, Ableton live, which is the heart of the creation of this exhibit. Mingling with the stars. This is the vibe of the aptly named Grammy Museum. From the moment I entered the elevator, I felt like I was being transported to another world. The rooftop area where the reception was being held was open and spacious and exuded luxury. The service was impeccable. Waiters walked around with scrumptious pastries and appetizers constantly so you were never without options. The open bar area was also conveniently located so that you did not have to walk far to get a drink. The table set up was also very nice. Despite the large crowd of people, there was always a place to sit comfortably. And the view! It was so nice to be able to see and take pictures of DTLA unobscured. I could easily spend the whole day here! If you're a fan of music--or especially of Taylor Swift--the GRAMMY Museum is a must-visit. What a wonderful place with endless memorabilia. Located at la live near Olympic and Figueroa is an unassuming museum with many treasures. Sorry, but this museum is in a sad state... I would only recommend for the greatest of Grammy/music fans. You start on the top floor and work you way down. They have a few Grammy artifacts to check out. They have a few photograph collections of various artists. They have a few stations which are in various states of (dis)repair. They do have a lot of screens projecting past Grammy performances. I guess that is neat, even if I could probably take them all in via YouTube. Slow playing it all, I was in and out in about an hour. The Grammy Museum is a great place to learn about music history. We visited with free tickets that our hotel offered. There was a collection of red carpet outfits and it was interesting to stroll through the museum and learn about artists new and old. The sound playground was a cool exhibit where you could go into a sound studio, play instruments, and experience making music yourself. Arrived at noon on Memorial Day. Parking across the street was a little over ten dollars and was practically next to the front door. But the city wasn't busy today so that lot might be full on a usual basis. It was a perfect day at the museum. There was only about 50 people in the entire building including staff. Very inexpensive. $45 for two adults and free for anyone under 17. Plenty to do here. You can record rap songs, voice over commercials, mix music, play instruments with synths, the list goes on. Plenty of knowledge to be consumed about music and the history of it going back over 100 years. It's a great place for anyone to enjoy. The cafe at the top floor had no solid foods though. Just chips, candy, soda, beer and wine. I was pretty hungry and I was really hoping for a sandwich. Other than that our visit was great. Friendly staff, super clean facility and inexpensive. I can imagine the younger crowd would enjoy spending time on that aspect. We liked the history and displays. It had been around 10 years since the last time I had visited the Grammy Museum and since my sister really wanted to see it for the first time, we paid it a visit. My sister loves music and musicians and goes into deep dives into all of it. I, however, enjoy music, but not to the same extent. Even then, I still appreciated being able to see the Grammy awards up close, from all angles, and even see how it has evolved over the years. For the most part, it looks the same, but details like the crank on the side disappearing completely in the latest versions, to the base changing from plain wood to a shiny lacquered red, makes you realize that it has changed over the years and that each musician has received a different Grammy through the decades, like Beyonce, who has won several over the years, still wouldn't have the exact same looking one. And even then, there are crystal versions and other versions awarded to educators and such. It's also cool to see the fancy and elaborate clothes musicians have worn to the ceremony, and samples of their scribbled notes when they were writing the songs. There's also an educational part where you can try playing the drums or scratching records as a DJ. There's even karaoke booths where you can listen to what you sound like afterwards with effects. There's one area where you can sit and watch clips of musicians winning the award and the video has a countdown clock showing it's around 30 mins. Since I was already tired of walking around, it was a good excuse to sit down and realize how meaningful and important this award is to each of the artists. Outside there's a Hollywood Walk of Fame of sorts, but instead of stars, it's a round record with the Grammy emblem in the middle. We visited the cafe at the roof which we were only able to get to by elevator, but we only saw drinks, so we went back downstairs and outside to have lunch at one of the many restaurants available at L.A. Live. Overall, it was a fun experience. After all, how often do regular people like us get to be up close to a Grammy? read more

Some of the interactive exhibits were confusing or just didn't work at all--like they needed a tech tune-up. I can't believe I've never visited the GRAMMY Museum until this past weekend. It was totally awesome! My favorite part of the museum was the interactive section, where you can learn to play music. They have drums, keyboard, turn tables and much more!! I also loved the rooms for singing, rapping, acting and performing. It was such a cool experience. I also loved all the information I learned about the Grammys through the eras. There's so much to see and learn. I wish there was a little more focus on pop music - especially boy bands (especially since it's the 25th anniversary of many albums). Overall this museum is a must. Anything for Selena's!!! If you try coming on a Saturday/Sunday expect minimum a 1.5+ hour wait to get inside. The exhibit is in the top floor of the museum. If you can't handle stairs there is an elevator (FYI there may be a line). When you're on the floor- you will come across a row of Grammys, Michael Jackson' famous jackets , a HUMONGOUS iPad for an interactive music experience, guitar showcases, etc.. the Selena exhibit is on the right. For a weekend, expect a line of about 35+ minutes. When you see the Selena mural, it's almost your turn. Museum personnel tells you to go ahead and though there's no line, you realize you still need to be in a line because everyone is in front of the clear glass shuffling to see each item. Observing all of Selena's treasured items, her beautiful wardrobe, Grammy, earrings, shoes, gifts. It's all so exciting to see annnnnd it lasts maybe 10 minutes. That's the end of the Selena exhibit portion. If you have never been here and you've already paid the entry then check out the other floors and memorabilia of a variety of artists. Since we came years ago when they had the Jenni Rivera exhibit, we decided to leave. I agree with other Yelpers that said museum planning lacked organization and it was disappointing, especially for a loved artist like Selena. Tips: --------- The museum was extended to May. They are closed in Tuesday, come on a WEEKDAY. Get a babysitter for your kids 10 and under if you can if you're heading here on a weekend because they will get anxious with the long waits.
