We were a little surprised to see the gate and fence in the small dog area badly mangled. Not sure if that was vandalism or vehicle damage, but it looks terrible. One other thing bothered me a lot, and that was the crabby self appointed guardian of the small dog area that cross-examined us the minute we entered the pen. Her shockingly rude and inappropriate behavior left us flabbergasted. It seems that keeping our dog leashed rubbed her the wrong way. Lady, who are you to sit there like the Queen of Sheba sitting on her throne and have the audacity to tell us what to do? Lady, first of all - you don't know our dog, and second of all - we don't know the other dogs, so what makes you think you have the right to talk down to us like a kindergarten teacher admonishing her kids for putting the yellow crayons in with the reds? What makes you think you have the right to tell us (and I quote exactly word for word) "maybe you shouldn't be here". Other than that, we had a very nice time.

It was a warmer December Saturday, following some heavy days of rain when we set out. Not knowing what slop we might be subjecting ourselves to we decided to be merry and Howled Holiday Carols all the way, even over a river and into woods. GPS got us the and yes, set off was the Park in some woods. Parking roughed gravel and wet ruts. There was the FOCDP within a beautiful wooded canopy of pine and leafed out deciduous trees. A smaller fenced in space for 25 pounders or less including some play scape. The space for the 25 pound or greater whoppers a larger wooded compound. Why do I like the wooded space? Warmer weather - more shade. Cooler weather - less direct exposure to wind. Slop weather - the forest space provides a natural sponge and a source of base material constantly being added. Of course, the trees added a wild feel for the fury visitors to enjoy Our Fury owner bridges into both areas, not too small and not too large. So we enjoyed visiting both areas and the social time with other friendly Pups and their Human Pets. Gladly both areas were fairly dry and not a swamp of mud. Seal of approval EARNED! FOCDP, acronym needed so my Fury Owner doesn't hear me pronouncing "Dog Park". Anyway FOCDP easily earned a 5 Star rating.

I'm amazed by the beauty of this place!…read more MDC operates the water treatment plants located at this reservoir. This is a privately owned area and not a public park. There was MDC Police that patrolled the area when I was there. Parking was plentiful when we went on a beautiful spring weekday. There were clean porta potties onsite. There were trails in the woods and out in the open; the trails were paved and gravel. It is opened daily from sunrise to sunset and closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. There were two trails; 3.4-mile loop red trail and 2.0-mile loop yellow trail. We started off with the gravel yellow trail that has a slight incline. Then we got onto part of the red loop which was near the bridge overlooking the water. We saw a couple of deer in the woods, geese, and turtles in the water. This is where we walked on pavement. Some of the trees were marked by type. The trail was busy with walkers and bikers. Overall, I really enjoyed the hike/walk and can't wait to go back.

What I love about this dog park is the track they have in both the small and the big park for me to walk around as my puppy plays with the dogs. At the time my puppy was 3 months old and the small side of the dog park and the people are amazing. As my puppy gets older we moved over to the bigger side. That's not even the best part about this park. The hiking trail behind the dog park is amazing. Do lookout for ticks in the warmer weather. There are so many trails perfect in the winter and the summer. Bring bug spray for those warmer weather and snow boots in the colder weather. The scenery of the river is amazing too depending which trail you take. I love how there's also a group of owners and their dogs on group hikes.

I love this park, and so does/did my dog. As she got older (between 1.5 and 2 years) she became…read moretoo aggressive for the park. It took me a month or so to come to this realization, but the other users suggested I do so without being nasty and small-minded, and I appreciate the caring community that has grown around this space. I am having my dog trained to be less aggressive (and learning to play my own part more effectively). Eventually the trainer (Julie from Working K-9, an amazing boarding and daycare place) will come to the park with us and once she approves my dog's behavior, we'll be back. Almost all of the people who bring dogs to this park are careful and respectful. The nice thing about having two separate areas is that if you run into one of the few owners who permit bad behavior, you don't have to confront him or her ... you can move to the other side. Yelp is about the park (as a "business") -- not about the dogs and owners (the "customers"). X.X's review is a violation of Yelp's Terms of Service. I note that nobody has voted for it, but I think we should do more as a community to support each other. We should not support attacks on an individual in public forums, particularly one of our model citizens: he started the chat group, bring gallons of water every day in winter, picks up everyone else's poop; can describe in detail every interaction his dog has with other dogs, and works constantly to reinforce good behavior in his dog. I have reported X.X.'s report to Yelp as a Terms of Service Violation and hope you will as well. There R 2 adjacent sections, 1 pea gravel & 1 grass. Both have a 5' fence, double gates & water…read morefountains for the dogs. Outside the gates R fountains for the humans. The grass side is bigger, ~ 1/2 acre. The feet of some of the larger dogs (30+ lb) seem to be irritated by the gravel. Usually people won't stay after dusk but both R lit, the gravel side w/ more. There R poop bags & trash can in each side but I always bring & use my own bags (they used to run out occasionally). U can drive or walk across the foot bridge from Deerfield St by Sirum Automotive. There's always plenty of parking, unless there's more than one softball game. [There R sometimes 2 at once :( The city needs arrange their timing better] Everyone always gets a spot even if they have to park on the entry road. If It has rained, usually everyone is in the gravel side bk they're worried their dog will get in a mud puddle (not me). There's usually several tennis balls & a pull toy laying around. When dogs come is kind of random. There's usually 3-5 dogs, but I've seen as many as 9 total. My dog & I have been there for up to an hr by ourselves & he doesn't want do anything but wait for others or sniff outside :( As long as it's not SUPER cold (below 30°) or currently raining, there's usually at least a couple there at the more common times (3 pm - dusk).

Absolutely loved this park!…read more Parking was plentiful and a porta-potty available. My family and I did the easy out and back 1-mile trail, Enders Brooks Falls. This was easy enough for my 3 year old. The trail was along the water; stairs and railings were meticulous installed for the safety of nature lovers of all ages. We were in awe by all the waterfalls; the sounds, ambiance, and smells were so peaceful. We saw quite a few people enjoying it too but it wasn't crowded. This park is located in Barkhamsted and Granby; both beautiful towns. There is a second out and back 4.4-mile trail, Fox Road Trail; we didn't hike this one yet but look forward to it next time.
