Very nice hotel except that it's far away from any action. There is a Gastro Pub attached, as well as a cafe, which sadly doesn't open until 7 am, so we couldn't even get coffee before we left each day. I mistakenly paid for breakfast when making the reservation, only to find out they don't open until after we had to leave. No refund Grrrrr Our room was comfortable and quiet. Water pressure in the shower was great.

Need key in slot to operate lights, plugs, etc.

They were an hour late checking us in, but held luggage for us when we arrived at 9 am so we could go explore Dublin. The v bed was very hard. The window opens & we have AC in our room (not all rooms do). The lights won't turn on unless you have the room key in the slot which took me a moment to figure out. They did have washcloths, amenities & a great blow dryer. The staff were all very nice. There is no fridge in the room but they will hold meds & ice packs for you. You also need a room key to activate the elevator; the breakfast buffet was included and pretty decent options. The attached restaurant was nice and stays later for guests. The grand canal train station was a 2-3 minute walk as well as a grocery store.

The Grand Canal Hotel is a middle-of-the-road, no-frills, you-gets-what-you-gets hotel for those who just need a clean room, a bed, a shower, a roof over your head, and competent service. If those are your metrics, the Grand Canal can't be beat. If you're looking for something with more character, consider another choice. The pricing seems right: my visit ran about 100 euro per night. Location-wise, the Grand Canal is close to a lot of the tech offices (Google, etc.), and is a quick drive or a longer walk to more bustling parts of town. All things being equal, I'd probably opt for a hotel closer to downtown and with a little more character, but it's not a big deal. You'll still find a couple of good restaurants in the area.

Solid hotel. Stayed here for 7 nights while on a work trip to Dublin (previous trip stayed elsewhere so I've got some reference to compare to). Rooms were spacious and had all the essentials - good bed (ask for a double vs single beds), good sized bathroom + amenities, water, water boiler + tea/coffee, etc. Best part of this hotel - cleanliness. The last place I stayed felt old, musty, and dated. Not Grand Canal. Second best part - legit gym in the basement. Way better than the last hotels joke of a gym. 2 treadmills, and elliptical, a bike, several weight machines, ab mats, and a huge selection of free weights from 2.5 - 40 kg. If you care about a hotel gym this is the place to stay. Also worthy of mention is the $10 euro full Irish breakfast they offer as well as $6.50 euro for a take away breakfast. Nice touch not to gauge patrons on breakfast prices. Will stay again for the next trip (also super close to the office so added bonus).

Nice, clean hotel in a good location. The Irish breakfast spread is good. Hotel is centrally located near downtown shopping, dining, pubs and Trinity College. Rooms are somewhat small by US standards and furniture is simple but adequate.

Nice room but we messed it up haha

Kind staff, spacious rooms. The continental breakfast is very good. A little far from bus/train but that is out of control of the hotel.

The rooms were well maintained and the decor was to die for. I wish every hotel felt this way. There are 3 bars inside the hotel as well as 2 restaurants. If you need help with anything the staff is always there to assist with a smile. Within walking distance of so many restaurants, pubs and shops.

If you come prepared, they have a concierge and a genealogist on site to help you find your ancestors from Ireland. Many famous people and politicians have stayed in these walls as well. That said, this was a truly special time of year when they're getting ready for Christmas! They took such care and were meticulous with their decorations. It was delightful to come home to each evening. Experience: 1. They will tidy your room everyday 2. Turn down service begins around 6 pm (they will get your slipper, robe, bed, water and chocolate ready for nighttime) 3. Their small guest room includes a king size bed that is superbly fluffy. 4. The deluxe guest room has a deep tub for soaking Staff: The entire front desk staff is very helpful, welcoming and efficient. Marta was especially helpful and kind throughout my stay! As for the porters were just right with their assistance. I did always feel bad that I had not gotten any Euro on my trip, but I will mention Karl was fantastic! Always helpful and nice to talk with. Michele in the health center was informative and helped me find all of the rooms for their current gym as it's under renovation. Facilities: They have a 5 star spa on site that includes one of the best relaxation rooms I have experienced in the world. It's the view and seating that make it amazing. They give you a blanket, fruit, spa water -- all while looking over st. Stephen's park... bliss! (I went on a rainy day which added to the ambiance) The facial with Elemis product was my favorite. PRO TIP! if you're from the states and liked Elemis, there is now an Elemis outlet store at Kildare Village, which is a short train ride away. I made it there in 35 minutes. DINING: Again, 5 star experience and the restaurant is always packed. Chef makes superb food and I thoroughly enjoyed the room service of fish and chips. TONS of fish, perfectly battered and fried. If I could give the shelbourne a 10 out of 5 I would.

For the price, my hotel room smelled awful and it was super noisy from the HVAC outside. I would take the noise of Temple Bar over that. I wasn't really impressed with the decor. We arrived from an overnight flight at roughly 9:30 a.m. and they were still prepping rooms but they stored our luggage and recommended a location to grab something to eat which was very good. Upon returning about 45 minutes later our room was ready and we found the room to be meticulous with a very comfy king bed, mini fridge, tv, and ample size bathroom. I saw a few other reviews that stated the bathroom doors would not stay open but I learned that is by design and we just asked for an extra towel that we used to prop the door open when needed. It serves to point out that the entire hotel is under a complete remodel so many of the rooms and features of the hotel are shinny new. They do offer breakfast in the morning and for the evening they do have a restaurant and bar. Just walk out the front door if you want a livelier crowd and more restaurant options The location of the hotel is prime as it offers proximity the River Liffey, plenty of shops, pubs, and attractions. We walked to the Jameson (25 min walk) and Guinness (30 min walk) factories as it also gave us the ability to take in things along the walk. You are close to Trinity College and both St Patrick's and Christ Church Cathedrals. lastly, I cannot say enough about the staff, Anne at the front desk was a warm and inviting pleasure and very professional, Marvin the concierge and bellman was super helpful and pleasantly informative, the house staff was attentive and always looking to make sure we were comfortable. The Brooks comes with my highest recommendation.

Every other property I visited was warm, welcoming, and accommodating. The Gibson was the exact opposite. From the moment I arrived, the staff were cold, unhelpful, and unwelcoming. At check-in, I was handed a key with barely a word and simply pointed toward the lift. No offer to assist with luggage, no information about the hotel, no sense of hospitality whatsoever. Throughout my stay, whenever I passed through the lobby, staff either ignored me entirely or deliberately looked busy to avoid interacting. I even sat in the lobby for a while just observing, and it wasn't just me - the staff treated all guests this way. Aloof, uninterested, and uncaring. Hospitality is supposed to be about warmth and service, but here it felt like guests were an inconvenience. This hotel was the least accommodating, least hospitable, and least welcoming of my entire trip, and it wasn't even close. Ireland is known for its friendliness and warmth - but you will not find it here. Do yourself a favor and stay literally anywhere else. I strongly do not recommend the Gibson Hotel.

The breakfast here overall is just really bad I had to spit half of it out and I'm not even a picky eater. Service was okay so that's why it gets 2 stars. And so far away from the city :(
