Heavily stained carpets & upholstery (honestly the floors the rooms are on look like a hospital), unbelievably hot rooms (in May with the window open to cool it down, it was still too hot to sleep) with no A/C. There was a small fan in the closet, but it didn't work. Single worst restaurant (onsite) I've ever eaten at and the beer is bad there too - clean your tap lines! No coffee or room service available until 7, in room coffee available via pods but Google said the water available via tap isn't suitable for drinking at this particular hotel because it's stored on the roof and only two small bottles of potable water are allocated per day. Bottled water is available via vending machine for a little under 3 euros for a small bottle. Staff was nice and bed was comfy. Shower was fantastic. And you can pay an extra 60 euro to check in at 11. read more

After traveling around southern Ireland for 7 days, landing at Grand Canal Hotel on our final night in Dublin was a pleasant and welcome surprise! And honestly, we were bummed it was saved for our last night. The hotel is situated alongside the canal, a few blocks from city center Dublin and is well placed for restaurants, pubs and/or exploring. The hotel has "old bones", but a lot of modern features and decor throughout the public space and guest rooms. Some of the spaces are still a bit dated, but they are well kept and clean. We were also impressed with the outlets here including the coffee/pastry window and the full service restaurant, which is gorgeous! We enjoyed the restaurant enough to enjoy two meals here in our short time on-site. The rooms were small, but well equipped, updated and laid out well. There was seating beyond the bed, which is always great. bed was comfortable and oddly enough, water pressure for the shower was best we had during our time in Ireland. Its the small things! On-site parking is available via a small parking garage. It is tough to maneuver, especially when multiple cars are moving around, so just be mindful. Service was stellar at the front desk upon arrival, during our stay and then at check out. Overall, Grand Canal may not be the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at, but it was the highlight of our Ireland trip from a hotel perspective, and we would 100% stay again when back in Dublin! read more

Very nice hotel except that it's far away from any action. There is a Gastro Pub attached, as well as a cafe, which sadly doesn't open until 7 am, so we couldn't even get coffee before we left each day. I mistakenly paid for breakfast when making the reservation, only to find out they don't open until after we had to leave. No refund Grrrrr Our room was comfortable and quiet. They were an hour late checking us in, but held luggage for us when we arrived at 9 am so we could go explore Dublin. The v bed was very hard. The window opens & we have AC in our room (not all rooms do). The lights won't turn on unless you have the room key in the slot which took me a moment to figure out. They did have washcloths, amenities & a great blow dryer. The staff were all very nice. There is no fridge in the room but they will hold meds & ice packs for you. You also need a room key to activate the elevator; the breakfast buffet was included and pretty decent options. The attached restaurant was nice and stays later for guests. The grand canal train station was a 2-3 minute walk as well as a grocery store. read more

I'm just visiting from the U.S.--I didn't stay at the hotel, but the treatment I received at their restaurant after a long day of traveling was terrible. I drove past the place and stopped because I was hungry and craving a burger. When I walked in, I waited at the door while one of the waiters looked at me and then continued about his business. I approached another staff member--someone blonde , wearing glasses with blue clothing--and asked if I should seat myself or wait to be seated. I was never offered water, and when I asked the server in the white dress shirt and black Converse for some tomato and onion slices, he acted like I was bothering him. At no point did anyone check on how the meal was or offer any of the basic courtesies you'd expect, even at checkout. It felt like worse-than-one-star service. Based on this experience, I would never consider staying at this hotel if I ever return to Dublin. read more

This was such an amazing stay in Dublin. We were so lucky and able to check in early which was amazing. When greeted by the front desk the staff the vibe was immediately warm and welcoming. The hotel is clean and modern with snacks and a restaurant on the main floor. The room itself was very nice the pillows were fluffy and the shower had amazing pressure. My only downfall was that I thought it was closer to city center however it's a little far to walk many places with my parents as they are older. That is my fault for not understanding the map though! read more

No A/C and 3 flights of steep, tiny stairs to carry your luggage up. The staff are completely unhelpful and keep to themselves at the reception desk unless directly approached. Addditionally, there is NO PARKING and the staff don't even know the rules of parking on the canal in front of their hotel, nor can they help you pay for it. The rooms are tiny, hot, and dirty, and the mattresses don't even have protective covers, so if your sheet slips off, you are laying in someone else's filth. Do not stay here--for the price there are MUCH better hotels in Amsterdam. read more

We had a 11 day stay in Dublin and had the absolute pleasure of staying at the Grand Canal! The hotel is within walking distance to lots of things.. we had rented a car but didn't really ever use it! Parking around Dublin is very limited so just use Uber or the many taxis around! Sebastian at the front desk - or Mikhail - or Magdalena - they are wonderful! And Sylwia at the coffee bar! Chef's kiss - it doesn't get better than them! The hotel is 'family-owned' and it shows! Wonderful atmosphere and super clean! The only 'complaint' we had was about the mattresses and pillows (very hard!) but I've been told that's just normal for Europe! We can't wait to come back and see all of our new friends again! The Grand Canal Hotel is a middle-of-the-road, no-frills, you-gets-what-you-gets hotel for those who just need a clean room, a bed, a shower, a roof over your head, and competent service. If those are your metrics, the Grand Canal can't be beat. If you're looking for something with more character, consider another choice. The pricing seems right: my visit ran about 100 euro per night. Location-wise, the Grand Canal is close to a lot of the tech offices (Google, etc.), and is a quick drive or a longer walk to more bustling parts of town. All things being equal, I'd probably opt for a hotel closer to downtown and with a little more character, but it's not a big deal. Solid hotel. Stayed here for 7 nights while on a work trip to Dublin (previous trip stayed elsewhere so I've got some reference to compare to). Rooms were spacious and had all the essentials - good bed (ask for a double vs single beds), good sized bathroom + amenities, water, water boiler + tea/coffee, etc. Best part of this hotel - cleanliness. The last place I stayed felt old, musty, and dated. Not Grand Canal. Second best part - legit gym in the basement. Way better than the last hotels joke of a gym. 2 treadmills, and elliptical, a bike, several weight machines, ab mats, and a huge selection of free weights from 2.5 - 40 kg. If you care about a hotel gym this is the place to stay. Also worthy of mention is the $10 euro full Irish breakfast they offer as well as $6.50 euro for a take away breakfast. Nice touch not to gauge patrons on breakfast prices. Will stay again for the next trip (also super close to the office so added bonus). read more

Yeah! I am the first one to review. It seems that a lot of people come through here - people on business, people that are there to watch rugby matches and tourists alike. Overall, I had a great experience with the hotel - it was economical (75 euros per night), the room was kept clean, and AWESOME location (since my work was within 1 minutes walk :) Highlights: 1. Convenience - there's a pub and the cafe and the restaurant all within the hotel 2. Price - there were some packages that were published that were all less than 100 euros per night. 3. Room - room was a bit small for my taste but had everything that you could ask for. The room was made up pretty tidily and couldn't complaint. Will always come back here to stay! read more

Very happy with the hotel, service, and the room. Fantastic location near the docks. Walk to several nice restaurants, Google a block or two away. Fantastic helpful staff, clean updated rooms, good quality wifi, comfortable room, nice buffet breakfast spread, quiet inside, bustling outside. Very busy area. Lot of traffic business days. Bikes beat cars into the office. Nice coffee stand in lobby, and attached pub is convenient and bustling. American football was on 3 screens in the attached Gasworks Bar on Sunday. Decent. This hotel is good, but not great. The staff are friendly, not super helpful. The rooms are nice, but not exceptionally impressive. Its a touch noisy at night, but nothing too crazy. The immediate area doesn't have a huge amount to offer. The reason I gave it only two stars was that the alarm went off in the middle of the night and woke the entire place up. I had an early flight out the next morning and it was exceptionally disruptive. There were no communications or apologies or anything surrounding the incident, which was very disappointing. read more

I'm a pretty easy going traveler but this hotel cut a lot of corners. 1. Furniture feels like a college dorm room (those low foam coaches) 2. Maybe 12 TV stations (90% are terrible) 3. The body wash smells like men's after shave 4. Late night (after 9) room service is a pizza or a ham sandwich. 5. No hair conditioner 6. Towels feel like brillo pads 7. No fridge or even an ice bucket 8. The front rooms, they use spot lighting that comes right in your window. 9. There is no handsoap (no bar or bottle) so you have to smell like men's cologne (see 3) The only redeeming factors are 1. Nice staff, I found them helpful and polite and fast. 2. The lobby looks nice (hides the upstairs creepiness) 3. Location is very convenient to a lot of the big tech buildings. 4. Pretty cheap. read more

Really good value for money. I stayed here for about six days and had a great experience. The staff at the front desk are helpful and friendly, I needed some help with laundry and they were prompt at delivering it at the agreed upon timeline. If I could give the Grand Canal Hotel 6 stars I would. Hands down, the best deal on a hotel I got on my trek across the UK and southern Ireland. We booked our room at around 1am the morning of our stay (we were on an over night train/ferry from London) and got to the hotel at 7am with no Euros (didn't know the exchange office didn't open till 9). The morning manager got us to an ATM so that we could pay the cab, offered to hold our bags for us (no charge), let us recover and use the internet in the very comfortable lobby, answered all of our questions with patients (we were irritatingly ignorant of how to get around Dublin) and managed to get us into our room 4 hours early so that we could take a nap (hadn't slept in 36 hours) before getting out to see the city. When we got to the room, we found that we had a beautiful view of the oldest football stadium in existence, the bathroom was very large and well equipped, the bed was comfortable, there were all of the little extras we could want, and the whole place was spotless. Plus there was free wifi that was very fast. We wanted to try the restaurant and bar because they looked excellent, but we didn't make it back to the hotel until late, so I don't know if they are any good. But they certainly looked it. The hotel has a perfect location. It was 10 minutes from the port (if you are coming in by ferry) 10 minutes walking distance to downtown, and is in a very nice neighborhood. Close enough to everything be convenient but far enough away to be quite at night. The only complaint that I had about the hotel was that the room was a bit stuffy and hot. However, I will point out that we were there on the two hottest days of the entire year. So... While I'm sure there are other hotels in Dublin that are nicer and more extravagant, there is no way you could get a better deal. This is a 4 star hotel at a 2 star price. That makes it a 5 star booking for me. read more

Really nice rooms, love that we can open the windows and get fresh air. The staff was really nice and accommodating. Its perfect to have a pub connected to the hotel where you can even charge the bill (at the pub) to your room. Only thing that was a little high price wise was the breakfast, but it was convent as heck, so we ate there each day. We will use the hotel when we are back in Dublin read more

This hotel was very good on the price and was the main reason we booked it. The room we booked was a 3 person room. With a double and a single bed It was in a great location for us close to local train station, good main road for taxi and local city bike service, but it's a short 15-20 minute walk to the center of Dublin (Trinity College). There is a well equipped Gym in the basement of the hotel which is free to use by all hotel staff. A carpark is available to use for the hotel guests too. Not to sure about the costs as we didn't make use of this facility. They have vending machines on each floor incase your peckish and Ice machines for drinks. Also they have room service and a cafe and bar downstairs. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was kept very clean and was comfortable. I would definitely stay here again if I come back for another trip. Ideally a more central hotel would of been great but this was a nice hotel and would definitely book again its not that far from the centre at all. Especially if you don't mind walking. read more

Not only did she print the documents (which were being a bit stubborn to boot!) she kindly refused tip which I was more than happy to give. Excellent location. Walkable to lots of restaurants and pubs. Our room on both occasions was perfect. On our 2nd time there, the World Cup semi-finals was in town so everything was packed, but the nice staff at the on-site restaurant served us dinner (even though they were closed for a private event). D used the gym and he said it was very nice and clean. The front desk team were professional and knowledgeable. The taxi I ordered through them was there exactly on the dot to pick us up for the airport. For our first trip to Ireland, this was a wonderful place to begin and end our vacation. read more

Let me start with I *always stay here when I go to Dublin*. This is a clean hotel with great WiFi and super staff. This is a no frills location but if you are doing work next to this hotel it is worth staying here. The bar(pub) down stairs has a great selection of beer and great way to start your visit in Dublin with a "pint" of Guinness (and yes it tastes better in Dublin!). read more

Stayed here for about a week at the beginning of April. Wish we could have stayed longer but it was booked up at the time. On site parking was a huge plus for us and it wasn't difficult to get in and out because the street wasn't terribly busy. We had a corner room with a balcony which was just lovely! The only down side to facing out the front of the hotel was that people would smoke in front of the main doors which made its way up to our non smoking room. The bed was okay, and it was nice to have extra seating room. The tub was quite narrow but deep enough. Can't say I enjoyed the smell shampoo and soap, but I did manage to buy a bar of dove at the spar. Loved the location and there were quite a few good places to eat or order from around the area. I've stayed here twice. The location is perfect for business in the Grand Canal area. The O2 arena and the Aviva stadium are a walk away. I can't speak for the hotel's restaurants and bars since I sought my solace elsewhere. Each stay I've had an "executive room" upgrade and for the bit more space it's worth it if you're there for more than a couple of days. This is not very close to the central touristy areas, it's a good 20-30 minute walk (closer by taxi). But other than that there is nothing to take away from the Grand Canal Hotel as a very good base for a few days business in Dublin, if your business is close by. read more
