this mall needs an update badly. it is also dirty compared to other malls such as Barboursville, wv. The entrance near United Bank is through pigeon poop to go in those doors. Getting rid of the pigeons is an easy fix with an extermination company. read more

It is sad because the image and shopping experience of Grand Central Mall has been really hurt with Belk turning its store into nothing more than a Goodwill store or a Gabes in what should be a super regional mall of first class stores as it used to be. Belk Outlet needs to be replaced with a Target or better yet a Boscovs. I'm afraid if this doesn't happen the smaller stores will end up closing from a lack of traffic. read more

It is disgusting how little the mall cares about small businesses. The mall workers are fine, but the owners clearly show that they only care about money. The employees would get a 5 star review, but the company is just so terrible. I give it less than 5 years. The largest mall in the area and it's only one floor with Sears, JC Penny, and stores called "Belk" & "Elder-Beerman" as the staple department stores. The only pros I can really think of are wide walkways inside (Boston malls are always cramped with tiny corridors), a movie theatre, and a Steve & Barry's with inexpensive apparel. Dear lord send a chopper and get me to the Back Bay shops. read more

A wide variety of shops and clearly well populated, but starting to look a little dingy. There is almost always a bird in the food court and the skylight is dirty, but the convenience factor overrides most of the faults. This is a mall in the traditional sense in that you can spend the whole day there and not need to leave. The anchor stores are the typical big players and the small ones are literally every chain you can think of from Victoria's Secret to Yankee Candle to Lids. read more

This is a great mall. Lot of selections they really upped their game that's for sure a few years ago there weren't many stores at this mall. But now they are booming and I enjoy the theater and the food court here too. Just wish there were more food options. Definitely will be coming back. read more

Not the greatest mall in the world, by any means, but not terrible either. The selection of stores is decent, but you won't find as good a selection in some of the chain stores as you would in, say, Ohio Valley Mall, the Huntington Mall, or Charleston Town Center. The mall is clean and easy to traverse, but there are certain times when the obnoxious area high school and middle school kids invade it and drag the experience down a little. In the 80s and early 90s, this mall had birds, ducks, fountains, and a GC Murphy--and it was an amazing atmosphere. Today, it's a little bland and no longer has any of those things. The old fountain in the Sears court was truly a sight to behold. read more

I don't think it's fair that big city reviewers are comparing Grand Central with some kind of fancy galleria they would find in their major metropolitan area. I've lived in many different parts of the country, and I think Grand Central Mall can absolutely hold its own with malls I've seen in other similarly-sized cities. It's head-and-shoulders above the mall in Athens, certainly, which is why a lot of Athenians head over to Parkersburg on the weekends to do their shopping. Grand Central has four anchor stores: J.C. Penney, Sears, Elder-Beerman, and Belk. Belk is definitely the fanciest of them and has the best selection of women's clothing, although J.C. Penney is a close second. Other things I love about the mall are the U.S. Post Office location, which is very convenient when it's open (but unfortunately is open only two hours a day at present), the food court with seven different dining options that is always packed with people, and the ten-screen movie theater (which is pricier than I would like but is still very convenient). There are a lot of small specialty shops as well, mostly the usual suspects that you see in every mall everywhere. (You know: Bath & Body Works, Hollister, Dress Barn, Victoria's Secret, GameStop, Spencers, etc.) Right now I can't think of any empty stores in the mall, which is pretty remarkable in this economy, and definitely puts it above the mall in Athens, which is like a ghost town. read more

I'd have to agree with jeffrey h on this one. The mall certainly isn't all that. But, compared with the other local shopping options (i.e. walmart) this is the spot to go. Plus, if I remember correctly, it is close to a Borders and a Panera. read more
