And now a review of the space, because like the photos, this place is that cool and now, I have a better understanding of what it's all about, sort of. So the place has been open for about 5.5 months. A warm inviting storefront with the inside filled with local artist inspirations. Prices range from the Wow! That will look kick ass in my place (for the most frugal shopper) to Wow! That will look kick ass in my place! (for the person with some deep, pockets). Everything that's sold are one-of-a-kind pieces and are quite amazing. From paper mache' sculptures (definitely worth checking out) , New Zealand reclaimed wood tables, low temp fired ceramics, paintings with prices all over the spectrum and of course, photography and more. The cool thing though is that with the gallery owner, Nance, has space in the back which could be used for other events besides showings. Not big events, but smaller ones and obviously you would need to talk to her about what your trying to do but she came off as pretty cool and open to ideas. Nance has history of doing things in the city around the arts scene and if you've been to Macy's for their holiday display, you've seen her work. This part of West 7th (3-4 block area?) is really starting to pop and one could park in the middle and walk around, eat, drink, and shop their way to the different businesses and this place, is definitely worth a stop.

They've got an ever-changing collection or art, seemingly from local artists. With room for all types of hanging art, and larger pieces in the center of the room, the A|Z Gallery looks like it would be a great party atmosphere to host openings. I've never been, and frankly don't know if they do that, but the location looks fit for it. Parking is hit or miss; not many street options now with the surrounding roads dug up for the Central Corridor project, but you can take advantage of the Farmers Market lot (if not already occupied) or the Tilsner lot itself. I honestly don't know if you have to pay for those two...but I've never been towed.

Except for the "art show" that my friend's children set up in a corner of their room....so, yeah. AZ Gallery was holding an event - A Midwinter's Dream - that featured local women artists and their various crafts. Everything was represented there from homemade candles and perfume to photography, shadowboxes, and jewelry. To be honest, much of the reason we went was to support a couple of friends at the show. Wandering around the space was easy and fun - I had a great time talking to each artist, some were members of the gallery, others were guests of the gallery. And the members of the gallery were super nice too. The gallery did a great job of laying out the space so that it didn't feel too crowded either. I can't tell you much more about the gallery, hours, trivia, or anything else really useful. But, if you see another event of theirs pop up, be sure to check it out! They do know how to host a nice party and they have some great artists.

Mosaic Artist and Owner, Lori Greene, invited me in and asked if I was ready to get started! This creative mecca is not just for mosaic experts. The studio is open to the public for classes and affordable studio space for more self assured aspiring mosaic artists. I took a popular "Trash to Treasure" class to learn the basics and got to work making some holiday gifts for friends and family. It 's a unique creative experience for all ages. I've been visiting CFLO on and off for a few years and every time I pop in, there is a new display or items have been rearranged. There is a no photo policy here, yet I had to capture some for Yelp to encourage others to show up and hope that the exterior one is okay to share. I once purchased some clogs and today I got a lovely Hawaiian cookbook titled, "Another Taste of Aloha." The service is good and the prices vary. Someone reminded me of this newish gallery that I had heard about but hadn't been to yet. Thank goodness for this place! They have art and crafts made by local Southeast Asian artists that you can buy in the spot. I bought some lovely drawings by Tori Hong for just $30 each. They also have a good stationary selection. I got some thank you cards that say "thank you" in Hmong! I saw aprons with Hmong designs, cute pillows, stickers, mug coasters and more. The space felt airy like a gallery and the folks running the store were super friendly. Do you need gifts for friends, family, or coworkers?
